  6. Mariners seek a split NY Yankees (75-57) at Seattle (56-76) 4:35 pm EDT Thu Sep 1, 2005 Starting Pitchers NYY Jaret Wright: 4-2 Record, 6.39 ERA, 25 Ks, 15 Walks, 7 HRs SEA Joel Pi?eiro: 5-9 Record, 5.78 ERA, 80 Ks, 47 Walks, 22 HRs Jaret Wright is still undefeated since his return from the disabled list, thanks in large part to some much-needed offensive support his last time out. Wright hopes to bounce back from his first poor outing in three starts since rejoining the Yankees' injury-plagued rotation as New York wraps up a four-game series with the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. Wright, out for nearly four months with a shoulder injury, returned to the rotation on Aug. 15 and went 2-0 in his first two outings, surrendering just two runs and eight hits over 13 1-3 innings. However, the hard-throwing right-hander was not as sharp Saturday against Kansas City, allowing five runs and seven hits over five innings. Fortunately for Wright, the Yankees scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to pull out a dramatic 8-7 win, getting him off the hook for what would have been his first loss since a 10-2 defeat to Texas on April 23. "I fell behind a lot of batters and had a long inning,'' Wright said of the Royals' five-run fifth. "You're not going to feel great every time, especially with what I've been through. You do what you can and try to battle through, they just got to me.'' The Mariners couldn't get to Randy Johnson on Wednesday, managing just three hits in seven innings against the former Seattle ace as the Yankees held on for a 2-0 victory. Johnson outdueled 19-year-old rookie Felix Hernandez, who yielded solo homers to fellow rookie Robinson Cano and Gary Sheffield for the game's only runs. With the victory, the Yankees remained one game in front of the Los Angeles Angels in the AL wild-card race and moved 1 1/2 in front of Cleveland. New York is 2 1/2 games behind first-place Boston in the AL East. Yuniesky Betancourt ended Johnson's no-hit bid with a leadoff double in the sixth, but Seattle managed little else during its seventh loss in 10 games.
  7. Sox wont need to look for a new 3rd baseman, it will either be Youk or Mueller in 2006
  8. I sat on the green monster for the May 9th game against Oakland, first homerun I had seen by Millar that sailed over my head and it was also the 1st homerun he hit for 2005. In 2005 season games Ive been to, Ive seen 1 HR by Edgar, 5 Hrs by Big Papi (2 grand slams), 3 HRs by Manny, 4 HRs by Trot (including inside the parker), 2 HRs by Varitek, 1 by Olerud, 1 by Payton, and 1 by Millar
  9. it still shows no merit or logic for you to bash cora, whos' prime position is backup, and he has been doing a great job in his time with the Sox.
  10. after rumors abound, Boston.com has just released the final confirmed call ups for Sept 1: Chad Harville will also be joining the team today of course more callups will follow during this month
  11. Id say def resign Tony G, with him and Pedroia competing for the starting bid in the spring training of 2006. with the latter becoming the backup
  12. Orioles release much-maligned Ponson Associated Press Posted: 35 minutes ago BALTIMORE (AP) - Sidney Ponson was released Thursday by the Baltimore Orioles, who voided the pitcher's contract on the theory that his behavior over the past nine months gave them grounds for his dismissal. Ponson was arrested on Aug. 25 for driving under the influence of alcohol. He was also charged in January with driving under the influence in Florida, a case that has not yet been resolved. That arrest came less than a month after he spent 11 days in an Aruban jail after he hit a judge during a Christmas Day fight at a beach in his native country. Ponson apologized for the fight and reached a settlement that involved community service and a charitable contribution. Last week's arrest convinced the Orioles that they had enough of a case to void his contract. The 28-year-old Ponson, who is currently on the 15-day disabled list with thumb and calf injuries, still has one season left on a three-year deal that would earn him $10 million in 2006. In a one-sentence release Thursday, the Orioles announced their plan to end their association with the troubled pitcher. Every player on the 40-man roster signs a standard Unified Players Contract that includes a morals clause, paragraph 3(a), that reads: "The Player agrees to perform his services hereunder diligently and faithfully, to keep himself in first-class physical condition and to obey the Club's training rules, and pledges himself to the American public and to the Club to conform to high standards of personal conduct, fair play and good sportsmanship." The Orioles believe Ponson violated that rule, but their bid to terminate his contract will almost certainly meet resistance from the player's union. Russell Smouse, the Orioles' legal counsel, did not immediately a phone call to his office. Ponson's agent, Barry Praver, did not return a call to his cell phone. Praver and Ponson have not talked to the media since the pitcher's arrest last week. Ponson is 7-11, with a 6.21 ERA this season, among the highest in the major leagues. He has not won a game since June 18.
  13. The Angels say they are interested if Barry Bonds asks the Giants to trade him to an AL team, where he can end his career as a designated hitter The Dodgers, upset with starter Derek Lowe's off-field behavior, will place him on the trading blocking at season's end. The Diamondbacks' negotiations with No. 1 pick Justin Upton have turned nasty, which could cause them to become the first team in 22 years to lose the top pick in the draft The Pirates will turn to either former Pirates manager Jim Leyland or A's manager Ken Macha if they decide not to renew manager Lloyd McClendon's contract this winter Reds interim manager Jerry Narron is expected to become permanent now that the Reds are playing their best baseball of the season The Cubs are targeting Braves shortstop Rafael Furcal as one of their top free-agent priorities The Phillies want to re-sign closer Billy Wagner before he hits the free-agent market this winter. He is seeking at least a three-year, $24 million deal The Marlins, deciding they can't afford to be patient any longer, have benched third baseman Mike Lowell and shifted Miguel Cabrera to third base The Mariners have absorbed $13.5 million in salary in dumping all four of their starting infielders from the 2004 team, the latest being third baseman Scott Spiezio. He is owed $3.35 million next season The 6.24 ERA by the Diamondbacks' bullpen is on pace to rank as the worst since the 1950 St. Louis Browns (6.62)contract after his latest arrest.
  14. Shawn Wooten this season for the Paw Sox has had committed 9 errors in 109 games. And has 109 hits in 408 at bats (.257 avg) 19 Doubles, 15 HRs, 58 RBIs, 42 Runs scored, 34 Walks, 71 Ks with an OBP of .414 left-handed Matt Perisho (a former Marlin) has been doing extremely well since joining the Paw Sox in 13 games (13 innings) has a 2-0 record with a 2.08 ERA giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, 6 Walks, 7 Ks right handed Chad Harville, our new #43, has been lights out since the All Star break in 14 games (15.1 innings) an 0-2 record with a 1.76 ERA giving up 3 runs on 8 hits, 6 Walks, 12 Ks this just in Alejandro Machado will also join the team tonight, a 23 year old infielder. He is having a great season in Pawtucket, in 117 games has had 115 hits in 383 at bats (.300 avg) 17 Doubles, 2 Triples, 3 HRs, 43 RBIs, 60 Runs scored, 32 Walks, 47 Ks, 21 SBs. He has an obp of .359 and on defense has made 7 errors
  15. Shawn Wooten will most likely get the call up if Shoppach is still hurt. reported by WEEI
  16. im just hoping he carries on what he did in his second half of 2004 to help bring Sox back to the World series again. to close out his red sox chapter in a good light.
  17. look for Bellhorn to start at 2nd base the game Wells pitches
  18. yeah thats right im saying f***ing hall of fame f***ing nominee right here. God, im just say he's been so far seeming to break out of the slump he has been in.
  19. Id say very much no to trading Edgar, he is starting to bring his offense around, be a .300 hitter by season's end. And even though it doesnt seem like it, his errors are also down. From April to all star game he had committed 16 errors. So far since the all star break he has committed 6. I think its just had to do with him getting used to the Al, new team, new ballpark, etc.
  20. Millar never gets clutch hits Id say last night's bomb to left field was clutch, besides that only several 1st baseman in the American League have over 10 homeruns
  21. Dating back to Aug 20 vs Angels, Millar has had 8 hits in 25 at bats (basically .300 avg) with Double, 3 HRs, 4 RBIs, 8 Runs scored, 4 Walks, 5 Ks. Lets not forget how many times he has hit line drives to the outfield but being robbed by web gem diving or homerun stealing plays. If not for Joey Gathright making a great dive to rob millar of a double, he wouldve been 3 for 5
  22. Edgar doesnt need to be resigned, because he signed a 4 season contract in december to 2008, with a club option for 2009----the 3rd baseman of 2006 will be Kevin Youkilis, even if Billy is resigned Billy would be demoted to backup to make way for Youk, its only right.
  23. along with Harville expected to come are Manny Delcarmen, Matt Perisho, Lenny Dinardo, and Kelly Shoppach (if he is ok) oh yeah and also Keith Foulke will be back after he "tore" it up in the Single A Leagues, ugh
  24. 2.5 lead going into game 4 against Tampa Bay. King Felix still turned in a fine performance, too bad his offense didnt give any support
  25. Its Mo Time to face Ibanez, Sexson, and Beltre the 3-4-5 hitters
