  4. so the fact they are having f***ing great seasons, just because theyve done bad in the past, to call them that makes sense. go check perisho's stats for 2005. true lefties kill him, but hmm i think hes a great righty specialist with right handed batters hitting just 167. haha by the way are you like 12, because only a miniscule 12 year old would come up with an assinine name-calling as that was
  5. yeeaah its not like Chad Harville has had a 1.76 ERA in 15 games since the all star break, and Matt Perisho with the Marlins posted a 1.93 ERA in 24 games, then in Pawtucket posted a 2.08 ERA in 13 games down there. yea ok i see logic in callin them "shitbums"
  6. pitcher vs batter matchups Aaron Small vs: (1st career appearance against Oakland) Jason Kendall, 0 for 1 Kirk Saarloos vs: (career against Yankees in 2 games an 0.00 ERA) Mark Bellhorn, 3 for 12 (.250 avg) Double, HR, 3 RBIs, 4 Ks Derek Jeter, 0 for 1, K Matt Lawton, 1 for 2 (.500 avg) Double, Walk Tino Martinez, 1 for 3 (.333 avg) HR, RBI, K Alex Rodriguez, 0 for 1, Walk, K Gary Sheffield, 2 for 5 (.400 avg) Double, RBI, K Ruben Sierra, 1 for 1 (1.000 avg)
  7. Athletics aim to back up blowout New York (75-59) at Oakland (76-58), 4:05 p.m. ET For the first time this season, Kirk Saarloos will pitch on four days' rest when he takes the mound against the Yankees on Saturday afternoon at McAfee Coliseum. It could be a good thing, as the righty is peaking right now. He has a 4-0 record and a 3.65 ERA in his last six starts. Saarloos is also 8-2 with a 3.53 ERA in his last 13 starts. A win would match Saarloos' career high of five consecutive wins, accomplished for the first time July 20-Aug. 10, 2002. Pitching matchup NYY: RHP Aaron Small • 5-0, 3.03 ERA in 2005 • Has not faced OAK in 2005 OAK: RHP Kirk Saarloos • 9-6, 3.98 ERA in 2005 • Has not faced NYY in 2005 Player to watch Since the All-Star break, Jay Payton has amassed 13 home runs and 37 RBIs, ranking him in the top five in each category in the American League. The outfielder added one home run and two RBIs to those totals on Friday. Quick hits The six runs Oakland scored in the first inning on Friday were the most allowed by New York in the first frame since the Devil Rays scored that many against them on May 3. ... The A's are 26-15 in games started by an opposing left-hander. ... Oakland won its 40th home game on Friday. ... Prior to Friday's 12-0 rout, the A's had not shut out the Yankees and scored 11 or more runs since July 24, 1970.
  8. True Sox are 26-27 against the East but at same time, Yanks are 23-25
  9. sox wont face cleveland in the regular season again, it is possible for them to meet during the cool nights of October
  10. Hideo Nomo had his strongest start in his push for a call-up to the Yankees, tossing 7 1/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Columbus in a 5-0 win over Toledo. Nomo (2-3) struck out 10 and allowed only three hits and a walk in his seventh start for the Yankees' top minor-league affiliate. He has a 3.62 ERA since joining the Clippers on July 27 but hadn't dominated opposing hitters before facing the Mud Hens. Nomo, released by Tampa Bay earlier this season, retired 12 consecutive batters between Don Kelly's single in the second and Kevin Hooper's single in the sixth. He walked Dewayne Wise in the first and was replaced after Jason Smith singled with one out in the eighth. Nomo's effort kept the Clippers in the race for the wild-card spot in the International League playoffs with three regular-season games left. They entered play Friday one game behind Indianapolis. Columbus scored five times in the first off Wilfredo Ledezma (4-3), who was pulled after issuing five walks and two hits without getting an out.
  11. if Mussina is indeed done, look for them to offer ponson a deal
  12. sucks to be a Yankee right about now Tendinitis could end Mussina's season September 3, 2005 New York Yankees ace Mike Mussina has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his right elbow and acknowledged last night that missing the rest of the season is a ''possibility." According to The Record of Hackensack, N.J., Mussina underwent X-rays and an MRI in Los Angeles and was told by Dr. Lewis Yocum to not pick up a baseball until the pain subsides. Mussina was originally supposed to miss just one start, but said, ''I think it'll be longer than a couple of days based on what [Yocum] told me. When it's going to be? I can't say for sure." Yankees manager Joe Torre would only say that a return to action is ''strictly up to Mike."
  13. true, hey i was sitting behind home plate and all of my section through the 1st base sideline sections were giving him a standing ovation when he came back to the dugout, for Foulke and Harville. Matt Perisho we had just clapped because really he was in there for just 1 batter
  14. Yankees collectively have hit a total of 176 homeruns. 89 of those have come from solo shots.
  15. payton and kilety go back to back, 12-0 ball game in the 3rd inning
  16. Jay Payton you!! Sox do that as well, surprising as it might be, in today's 7-3 loss they had stranded 8 baserunners
  17. a lot of things mixed up into the game like tito making a pitching change well a lot really, 1 Oriole batter for each Sox pitcher. the defense in the beginning of the game that allowed 3 unearned runs to cross the plate. offense was only at 4 hits. still gotta be optimistic, tomorrow is clement vs bedard
  18. yes true Matt Perisho's 1st batter he faced, he gave up a double--so we really didnt see what he can be able to do. same goes for chad harville who I thought shouldve gotten the whole 7th inning, not just in there for 1 out
  19. well true but he could get onto the roster with brown and pavano being out for rest of the season, hed be able to take their place
  20. omg I come back from seeing a terrible Sox loss, but hail the f***ing conquering A's!!!! 10-0 in the f***ing 2nd inning, are you f***ing kidding me??!!
  21. pitcher vs batter matchups Al Leiter vs: (career against Atlhletics in 7 games a 1-1 record with a 3.90 ERA) Keith Ginter, 2 for 5 (.400 avg) Walk Scott Hatteberg, 2 for 3 (.667 avg) Double, K Jason Kendall, 4 for 20 (.200 avg) 8 Walks, 4 Ks, SB Mark Kotsay, 5 for 14 (.357 avg) Double, RBI, 4 Ks Jay Payton, 3 for 10 (.300 avg) 2 Doubles, 2 Walks, K Danny Haren vs: (career against Yankees in 1 game a 6.00 ERA) Mark Bellhorn, 0 for 2, K Robinson Cano, 2 for 3 (.667 avg) Jason Giambi, 0 for 2, K Derek Jeter, 3 for 4 (.750 avg) RBI Tino Martinez, 2 for 2 (1.000 avg) 2 HRs, 3 RBIs, Walk Jorge Posada, 0 for 3, K Alex Rodriguez, 0 for 3, K Gary Sheffield, 1 for 4 (.250 avg) Double, K Tony Womack, 1 for 4 (.250 avg) 2 SBs
  22. Yes it is very early to start this game thread up. But I thought Id do since in about half an hour heading out to Boston with my friends to Fenway God I hope Rafael is in his lineup, his earplugs will be of no use from the Fenway Faithful. A's draw Wild showdown with Yanks New York (75-58) at Oakland (75-58), 10:05 p.m. ET The last time Ken Macha and Joe Torre spoke, in mid-May, both managers' teams were struggling, beset by inconsistent performances and criticism from outside. Torre noticed that Macha looked a little worn and asked him about it. "Macha was certainly frustrated," Torre recalled Friday. "But he stayed the course with what he knew about managing." Torre, a veteran of managing in the constant cauldron that is New York, gave the Oakland manager some advice on keeping an even keel. Macha, speaking Friday, seemed to appreciate the words. "He's a positive guy. He said, 'Trust yourself. Don't let any little things on the outside bother you,'" Macha said. "He deals with a lot of things that are on the outside, too. He seems like a calm guy, and I'm right there with him." Patience has paid dividends for both men since the Yankees visited McAfee Coliseum from May 13-15. Prior to that series, which the Yankees swept, the two teams were a combined nine games under .500 (30-39); today, they're 34 games over (150-116). "It'll be interesting to say hello to [Torre]," Macha said, "because when we played him way back when, we were struggling and so were they." Both teams enter the weekend as part of an unusual four-team shakedown on the West Coast. The Yankees, Angels and A's are all tied for first place in the American League Wild Card race, while the Angels and A's are also tied for first in the AL West. The Yankees, who open a three-game set in Oakland on Friday, lost Thursday to the Mariners, who will play the Angels on Friday. The A's will wrap around the end of their rotation this weekend, as No. 4 man Danny Haren throws Friday, fifth starter Kirk Saarloos starts Saturday and ace Barry Zito pitches Sunday. The matchups appear favorable all three days for Oakland: waiver claim Al Leiter starts Friday for New York, longtime Minor Leaguer Aaron Small pitches Saturday and Colorado castoff Shawn Chacon starts Sunday. And yet, while the A's unproven youngsters -- such as Haren -- have impressed this season, so too have the Yankees' retreads. Leiter had a 6.64 ERA with Florida this year, but with the Yankees, he's earned a winning record and a 4.28 ERA. Small, in his 17th professional season, is 5-0 with a 3.03 ERA, and Chacon, after going 1-7 with the Rockies, is 3-2 with a 3.19 ERA in pinstripes. Despite those revitalizations, Torre said, Macha's A's are the story of the year in the American League. Macha, of course, wouldn't say that just yet. "Every game right now is extremely important. I don't watch the scoreboard or anything, but I had the Yankee game on tonight," Macha said. "Still, with 30 games to go, there's a lot of head-to-head." Pitching matchup NYY: LHP Al Leiter • 7-10, 5.75 ERA in 2005 • Has not faced OAK in 2005 OAK: RHP Danny Haren • 11-10, 3.99 ERA in 2005 • 0-0, 6.00 ERA vs. NYY in 2005
  23. tonight is game 1 of Haren vs Leiter. yea id have to give the edge to Haren on that one
  24. you see when a player hits a ground rule double that automatically gets him to 2nd base. with olerud's ground rule double right after that, that got the man on 2nd base to score. All in all, Millar did contribute in all 3 of Olerud's RBI drives
  25. excuse me i made a f***ing typo, it got trot to 3rd base (the tying run) with just 1 out
