  1. Im in with the "against Romero acquisition" group. He would be best served as a lefty only type of pitcher, but Id rather see the in-house candidates of Craig Breslow or Javier Lopez take on that job. Javier Lopez's K of Jim Thome with the bases loaded was pretty slick. Im getting that same feeling in the pit of my stomach when I heard about Rudy Seanez being signed. Hopefully there's a clause in his contract that can allow them to release him if they arent being shown anything during ST
  2. ?? What are you talking about? Fred just mentioned that Drew will have better hitters in front of him that will help him succeed more in offense with plenty of RBI opportunities... I do not see him suggesting any of the sorts that there would be less chance of an injury because of it
  3. Your post before was of course to parade how the Yankees will be spending less on Igawa than Matsuzaka. Then you go on to say both are risks (no-brainer but Daiskuke is the better bet). Again there is no comparison between these 2 players except that they are Japanese and havent pitched in the states before. Next thing we'll see Im betting is threads of "Could Igawa be better in the states than D-Mat?"
  4. At the same token the Yankees will be paying just over $16 million a yr for 4 years... for a pitcher who could start the season off in Triple A, could be a 5th starter, could just be a relief pitcher in the end. Not one of Cashman's smartest moves Yes both are risks, but dont tell me that they are on the same level
  5. IMO Id say it would be best for Hansen to be in Triple A for the start of the season. He needs some reconstruction with his mentality
  6. http://blogs.tampabay.com/rays/2006/12/iwamura_a_ray_1.html The Rays are set to officially announce the signing of Akinori Iwamura, a 3 year contract worth $7.5-8.5 per with an option for a 4th year. That option is only up to Iwamura if he wishes to continue playing in the ughly stadium that is the Trop. Yankees' Kei Igawa, who could be in Triple A or bullpen (haha $25 million to talk to him, sorry cant get over that), should be announced next week. The Red Sox's lower than expected signing of D-Mat, 6 years/$52 million is getting praises from other teams Im betting on. Lets say if the Sox bowed down to prospect of $15-20 per on him. Guess what Zito's contract becomes even higher than the current estimated $100 million price tag. It also helped as evidenced the signing of Iwamura and soon even the rival Yankees for Igawa
  7. Am I really being overly optimistic that Jacoby will be up here next year?? His progress shows otherwise that he wont be staying for a long time down in Triple A. He is set to be a member of the Pawtucket Sox this spring, he'll be down there for close to 2 seasons? I cant comprehend with such a notion
  8. "fred" it seems to me that Coco's 2007 season will be playing for what type of player they can get in return next offseason. Jacoby Ellsbury is the future. Drafted as the 1st round in 2005, he is already entering Triple A this spring due to his rapid progress. 2005 Single-A Lowell (35 games) 44 Hits in 139 ABs (.317 avg) (.418 obp) (.432 slg) (.850 ops) 3 Doubles, 5 Triples, HR, 19 RBIs, 28 Runs, 24 Walks, 20 Ks, 23 out of 26 SBs 2006 Single-A Wilmington (61 games) 73 Hits in 244 ABs (.299 avg) (.379 obp) (.418 slg) (.797 ops) 7 Doubles, 5 Triples, 4 HRs, 32 RBIs, 35 Runs, 25 Walks, 28 Ks, 25 out of 34 SBs 2006 Double-A Portland (50 games) 61 Hits in 198 ABs (.308 avg) (.387 obp) (.434 slg) (.821 ops) 10 Doubles, 3 Triples, 3 HRs, 19 RBIs, 29 Runs, 24 Walks, 25 Ks, 16 out of 24 SBs 2006 Arizona Fall League (25 games) 29 Hits in 105 ABs (.276 avg) (.342 obp) (.371 slg) (.713 ops) 4 Doubles, 3 Triples, 3 RBIs, 18 Runs, 8 Walks, 16 Ks, 7 out of 10 SBs
  9. http://bostondirtdogs.boston.com/Headline_Archives/2006/12/thank_god_thats.html Exactly my thoughts are shown in these array of articles. Sox get yourselves a better translator that can fully understand of how to translate than this Tak Sato guy
  10. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6270140 Ken Rosenthal just said "Its not inconceivable that the Sox could sign Clemens then trade Beckett for a closer, they didnt rule out the possibility when teams were asking for him at the Winter meetings". He then goes on to say "Still they do have him under control for the next 4 years" Its not likely to happen
  11. all reports from ESPN, the Globe, Herald, local Boston news broadcasts, etc... is that Matsuzaka passed the physicals very cleanly and signed the contract actually at Mass General Hospital Im setting my Tivo to record the press conference as 5:00 is my start time at work :thumbdown
  12. Clement is owed roughly $10 million in 2007, the last year of his contract. The reports on his shoulder were not good at all. Due to the state of his shoulder, surgery he just had, and all the reab it will take... most will be surprised if he throws even one pitch this year in the majors for Boston. Recently Sean MacAdams said he might be able to resume throwing by maybe June. We are in big trouble if by June we still do not have a closer and the best option is Clement who just started throwing after doctors re-structured his pitching shoulder. Let alone, does everyone remember how he tightens up when he allows a runner to reach base? Thats not the mentality you want your closer to have
  13. Alrighty the top story on ESPN's Cold Pizza is the Terrell Owens saga which is nothing new at all
  14. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6270144 A good article by Dayn Perry on Foxsports
  15. rotoworld Very nice, he's owed just $6 million this season. That puts the updated payroll to $136 million. The cap I believe is $145 or 148 million
  16. Boston's CBS4 has reported the signing is official, a 5pm press conference will be held tomorrow Of course tho thats my f***ing start time at work Breathe another sigh of relief as updated news comes along. Im dead set on buying a D-Mat shirt and wearing it on each day that he starts, just like I did during the days of Pedro & Clemens
  17. Thanks for acting in a respectful manner. Kudos to the Yanks getting Pettitte back, I was doing dances when he was out of the AL East. His record flat out own Boston and especially in Fenway Park With an "estimated" $8.6 million owed to him this season, that would put the payroll at $138.6 million.
  18. Bingo, and Boras used him as an example of taxes while talking about the posting system. Altogether Pettitte will end up costing New York $46 million over 2 years
  19. Id suppose that Vidro could be the team's DH, with Lopez staying at 2nd
  20. I heard that Seattle was considering trying Pinero out as a relief pitcher. I wouldnt mind the Sox taking a low cost risk on him
  21. Lugo press conference taking place now on NESN JD Drew has returned home due to a formaility in his contract that only Scott Boras can work out, he of course is busy right now EDIT: Jeez weird seeing Lugo donning a Sox cap, happy none the less
  22. I dont want to be dragged into the whole "posting bid is part of the 07 payroll" theory again
  23. Actually the majority of us were banking on a last minute Boras signing
