  1. He also says the Sox could be the leading favorite for the AL Wild Card. I'll take it, if it means getting into the playoffs
  2. Believe me jackson Sox fans were starting to pull their hair out like Tito did when he was the Phillies manager... So Coco Crisp is out, well enter the young slugger Wily Mo Pena... no actually on second thought Francona will give Dustan Mohr, Adam Stern & Willie Harris the majority of ABs in center field for the next month :what: Spring training is usually where Theo tries to burn off a last minute trade. There was early speculation that Seattle was talking with Boston but it looks like they already have themselves a good bench.
  3. Hmm well I do know that the Sox signed Tike Redman & Kerry Robinson to minor league deals
  4. They got Dave Roberts from the trading deadline on. Which means... its not set in stone that Hinske will be with the Red Sox the entire season. As we all know the opening day roster is not the one you end the season with. Whose to say that Ortiz will get 55 intentional walks? Us Sox fans will be sitting back with glee if he gets that much, enter having to deal with Manny's bat
  5. Craig Hansen in the minors, only bring him up if the club really needs help in the bigs. This kid's mentality was rocked to the core last season and needs to take it easy. Anyone know Hansen just has 63 innings of service time in the minor leagues? Catcher- Jason Varitek Backup-- Doug Mirabelli 1st Base- Kevin Youkilis Backup-- Eric Hinske DH/1st Base- David Ortiz 2nd Base- Dustin Pedroia Shortstop- Julio Lugo Backup-- Alex Cora 3rd Base- Mike Lowell Left Field- Manny Ramirez Center Field- Coco Crisp Right Field- J.D. Drew Backup-- Wily Mo Pena Starting Rotation: Curt Schilling Daisuke Matsuzaka Josh Beckett Jonathan Papelbon Tim Wakefield Bullpen J.C. Romero Hideki Okajima Manny Delcarmen Julian Tavarez Brendan Donnelly Mike Timlin Joel Pineiro
  6. Although there is the obvious factor of the team's youthful inexperience, anyone think Doc Rivers could be let go after the season?
  7. Whoah jackson where did I compare the 2006 lineup to the 2003 lineup? I admitted that the 2003 offense no doubt was a great, at the same time I believe the 2007 lineup will be very good, then i listed why 2007 would be better than last years. Look at Drew's last 3 seasons, look at Trot's last 3 seasons, upgrade or downgrade? Look at Gonzo's offensive career, then look at Lugo's offensive career, upgrade or downgrade? Again about Pedroia 4 for 41 (.091 avg) Debut 14 for 49 (.276 avg) Rebound, hmm maybe he started to settle down after bigs jitters?
  8. The 2003 season no doubt had a great offense, but I do see the 2007 team having a very good year. This lineup got 2 considerable upgrades (Drew over Trot, Lugo over Gonzo), expected rebounds from Tek & Coco, and Dusty should get more HRs & equal RBIs as Mark Loretta did last season As for the rotation, 2007 is looking like a better one sans no pitcher will have same succes as Pedro did. The 1 - 4 starters (Pedro, Lowe, Burkett, Wakefield) pitched a combined 773 innings, while the #5 spot was a turnstile with 5+ ERA's Casey Fossum & Jeff Suppan taking up most of the starts there. For this season I believe each of the 5 is capable of pitching 180 innings or more. Would you agree that this year the bullpen shouldnt be depended on as much as last year's was? The 2006 rotation had only 1 healthy starter and that was Beckett who was trying to learn the American League. Not to mention the offense went from the top of the league in the 1st half, to one of the worst in the 2nd half.
  9. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/jon_heyman/02/07/wednesday.scoop/1.html Looks like spring training will just be him doing an audition for other teams. He is still owed 2 years/$20 million. Makes sense considering Phillip Hughes is making his way to the big show this season. We could probably see a rotation of fill-ins at the #5 spot until they believe Hughes is ready to come up
  10. Very true example, its not like the Sox & fans are expecting Schilling to be the ace for 2008. At that time, there will be three 27 year old hard throwers with the potential to easily lead the pack.
  11. The Devil Rays who again in their young history, will have the #1 overall pick in the draft. So far they are expected to take the pitching stud David Price http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=243&p=2&c=577410&ssf=1&RequestedURL=http%3A%2F%2Fmlb.scout.com%2F2%2F577410.html
  12. Well of course he wouldnt be getting $10 per if they re-signed him to be a backup. Name one team seriously that would sign a 37 year old Tek to that type of contract
  13. RJ fell apart in NY because he was way past his prime (mentality & effectiveness of pitches aged as well) and had a nagging back
  14. Who catches Wakefield next season then? ---Bring back Mirabelli for his age 38 season? ---George Kottaras is on the fast track to be the backup catcher from Tek next season. Should the Sox burden him learning the staff by giving him the crazy knuckleball every 5th day?
  15. If he is having a good season at point of "if he loses 1st start in New York", ah I really dont think the entire stadium is gonna get ready to throw sushi at him
  16. The offensive line they have good depth. Linebackers I def agree they have to get younger, def help is needed in the secondary & wide receivers departments
  17. True Jacksonian. Just from a Pats' fan perspective, ah just hard to see a player I respect go onto a new team. No doubt I want to see Maroney establish himself as the Pats main running back hopefully for the next 10 years or so -- http://patriots.bostonherald.com/patriots/view.bg?articleid=180801 The Pats will have $30 million under the cap and Robert Kraft has promised to spend to the cap this time around. Not saying I fully believe him but have trust in the Pats FO to do whats right for 2007. The Pats will be looking for impact players such as Raven's linebacker Adalius Thomas. Also of note the Patriots will have 12 draft picks, two of which come in the 1st round
  18. Id welcome Theo jumping all over this if he gets the chance. Seattle has had one of the worst offseasons
  19. Damn I love this kid!! Matsuzaka is either working on a new pitch or modifying one of his current pitches http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2007/02/01/getting_down_to_business/ EDIT: Im very much loving the ad Matsuzaka filmed in Japan for this type of beer. The flowing Sox jersey as he is putting it on gives me goosebumps... even more so at the end where they photoshop him in a Red Sox uni pitching with a roaring crowd behind him http://www.boston.com/sports/nesn/wilbur/sports_blog/blog/2007/02/01/daisukes_ad_debuts/index.html
  20. When I was real little and lived in Hamilton, Ma, I was neighbors with Bob Stanley the innings machine for the Red Sox
