  1. True, there was never any point that I thought Ward wouldn't play. The comment I made was more about Charlie Batch at QB. Even then, it's certainly no gimme for Miami.
  2. Back to the NE/Miami debate. Miami might be getting a one game head start as they get a Steeler team led by Charlie Batch, and possibly without Hines Ward.
  3. No, but in telling Branch he can look for a trade they essentially say "if you find a deal that is fair for us, we will trade you"... Branch has found deals that are fair from the Patriots perspective. By saying "we will trade you but we want two first round" they're saying... "we'll never trade you", which goes against what they originally told them.
  4. As far as I understand, the issue is whether or not the Patriots have declined trades that give them fair market value for Branch based on recent trades. A 2nd rounder for a guy who's best year was, as a #1 WR, 78 catches, 998 yards and 5 TD's with "the best QB in the history of the universe " getting him the ball -- sounds fair to me. Here's my question... even if it was regarding whether or not he had to honor his contract: wouldn't the fact that the Patriots have conceded he's worth more than his current contract by offering him a new one work against New England there?
  5. The fact that Javon Walker, Dante Stallworth, and Ashley Lelie were all moved for no higher than a second round pick here should be big in deciding this -- so to should the fact that Owens went for a 5th rounder. I get the feeling the arbitrator will side with the Patriots, but it could go either way and personally, I'd lean towards Branch.
  6. If it was, in fact, McCareins and a second rounder, I'm siding with Deion Branch on this one considering Terrell Owens got traded for a 5th round pick and Ashley Lelie went for just a 3rd round pick.
  7. What exactly did the Jets offer?
  8. Brady Quinn looks like s***, so far.
  9. Waaait a minute. Notre Dame had a false start on the initial punt attempt and GT drilled the Notre Dame punter... why don't they call that?
  10. I wish the Irish would've worn blue. Too much gold and white.
  11. I'm a Notre Dame fan, so you can guess what I'm looking forward to. Hopefully they don't call me into work on Monday -- few games are consistently as exciting and intense as Miami/Florida State. Considering both teams usually have atleast an outside shot at being Champions, it's awesome seeing someone's dreams shattered so early in that game.
  12. Doesn't Tennessee just look so much faster than California? I think it's a mixture of Tennessee being underrated and Cal being overrated, to be honest.
  13. Not sure if anybody here hates Colorado University as much as I do, but the Dan Hawkins era at CU kicked off with a bang with a 19-10 loss to Montana State -- a division 1-AA school.
  14. But the Patriots are being completely unreasonable. Two first round picks? According to their standards, no reasonable trade offer is good enough. Terrell Owens, pre-Philadelphia fiasco, got traded from the 49ers to the Eagles for a 5th round pick and a crappy DT. In the case of what Branch's market value is compared to what the Patriots are asking for -- sorry, the Patriots don't stand a chance.
  15. I'd say Javon is #2 because he's coming off of the injury and because Rod Smith is... well, Rod Smith. So I'd say the loyalty to Smith is the ultimate decider. Plus, the man can still play football and he brings so much to the team off of the field But yeah, Smith/Walker/Branch would look great. Hell, Smith/Walker/Lelie would've been great. But Branch certainly wouldn't have been alright with that role. It's funny, though, Lelie wanted out because he didn't want to be the #3 WR... well, that's exactly what he's going to be in Atlanta. Under Mike Shanahan, the Broncos have never had a solid #3 WR, so I was hoping Lelie would suck it up for the year. Obviously not the case, though.
  16. It may not be an issue of whether or not you like what you're being given. The Patriots told Branch he could seek a trade and, according to his agent, they would trade him if he found a good one. I'm not sure exactly what an arbitrators ruling would mean, but if he sides with Branch, he'll be agreeing that the Patriots turned down trades that are "appropriate and of a fair market value" according to recent deals revolving WR's. It shouldn't help him that Ashley Lelie went for a third round pick. Lelie's proven capable of scoring more TD's and getting more yards. Is Deion Branch really worth any more than he is?
  17. Wait a minute. You took Tom Brady with the second (?) pick in a fantasy football league and it's me, MC Hammer, and Papelboner that are drinking the kool-aid? Your fellow fans on here are saying one of the worst running games in the league last year is in better shape than a team that has been among the best for the last ten years and we're drinking the kool-aid? We're being realistic. No Branch, no playoffs for the Patriots. Your running game isn't what it used to be, your passing game isn't and your defense sure as hell isn't what it used to be either when you have to make desperate signings like Junior Seau. Rodney Harrison won't be near what he used to be either. By the way, Brady's had good recievers to spread the ball out to. If he has no other options other than Ben Watson, teams with athletic LB's are going to stop you. Bottomline.
  18. You're pretty much looking at a second round pick AT BEST for Branch. If any team out there was going to throw you a first rounder then the deal would've already been made.
  19. Why the hell would they franchise him? Do you think Branch is worth the average salary of the top 5 WR's in the league for even a year?
  20. You'd be slobbering all over that scrap heap's dick if he was a Patriot. In fact, I do imagine he'd be the best running back in the league in your mind.
  21. Maroney won't be playing second string defenses once the regular season starts. Ten years in the league, particularly after the beating he took in Cinci... MC Hammer's right. Back to Maroney... Don't take the preseason so seriously, guys. You don't see me jumping on the Cedrick Cobbs bandwagon.
  22. Don't like the playcalling from inside the 3 from Central Michigan. Also don't like the decision to kick the FG. We could have a game here!
  23. Well... College football season is underway. God I love this time of year.
  24. edited for correctness.
  25. That statement shows so much ignorance it's not even funny. The Broncos system has had two fullback's (Mike Anderson and Ruben Droughns) rush for 1,000+ yards. Our backup RB had a chance, in week 17 of last year, to make the Broncos only the third (?) team with two 1,000 yard running backs. That same backup RB lead the league in Yards Per Carry (that same backup RB returns). The Broncos have also plugged a 6th round draft pick into their system and saw him have one of the best seasons any RB has ever had. Add to that the fact the best rushing team in the League last year, Atlanta, did so under the guidance of Denver's old offensive line coach and one of the minds behind Denver's system. In the last 3 years (possibly more) the Broncos haven't fallen out of the top 4 teams in the League in rushing and have done so behind three different names -- two of them being converted FB's. And when you play in Arrowhead every year, I'm sure there's not many stadiums in the league that scare you.
