  1. They lucked out to the tune of 15-1 and breezing through the playoffs? That was the greatest NFL team of all time. No luck involved. And I think Jamal Lewis' prison thing happened before the 2004 season.
  2. The Bears never had a chance to win more. That team was dismantled rather quickly. The Ravens 2001 season consisted of Chris Redman, Elvis Grbac, and Randall Cunningham at QB and Jamal Lewis never even recorded one carry. They never had a prayer to repeat. So not only did they get rid of the QB who didn't make mistakes, they lost the reason their offense was even decent. Come on, man. This stuff isn't particularly difficult to look up. As for Culpepper vs. Buffalo -- Culpepper needs to learn to cope with the fact that he won't be as mobile as he once was. This d-line still isn't any good -- but then again, neither is the Dolphins O-Line. But Culpepper's also adjusting to real game speed after last years injury. He'll get better, but even then, he hasn't yet been awful. Helmet contact on the tuck rule play? You're nuts! Regardless -- the point was that I know you guys weren't complaining about officiating or crappy rules then. So why bring up the Super Bowl officiating? The Steelers won, get over it. Just like you expect the rest of the world to get over Ty Law's pass interferences or the tuck rule.
  3. Brilliant subject change. Instead of making me read that senseless dribble next time, why don't you just admit that you're wrong and that there's no parallels between this years Patriots and the 2000 Ravens. I'm a Notre Dame fan, however, and while I didn't think we'd win the National Championship this year, I can damn sure tell you that the Irish faithful's views of Weis, for the most part, are no different than your views of Belichek. You can't use the fact that Belichek did 'something with nothing' one year and then use that 'nothing' to argue about how much talent you've got on defense. He's either a miracle worker or you're a talented football team. So please, guys... pick one!
  4. Dante Culpepper had a better completion percentage and more yardage against Buffalo than Brady did. Whether they lost to them or not, to use that to suggest that my argument in that regard is flawed is ignorant. But hey, it's expected from you. Culpepper just played his second regular season game in almost a year -- expect rust. I knew you'd go to the Super Bowl officiating. Pittsburgh won the game, get over it -- I don't like it, and I imagine you don't either. But we want to talk about officiating? Let's talk about Ty Law's coverage on Marvin Harrison a few years back. No, no... that didn't prompt Tony Dungy to make ignorant comments -- it only prompted the league to change how strictly they call pass interference. Let's talk about an awful rule that allowed New England to beat Oakland. It wasn't a horrible call -- so you won by the rules. But you know that rule would be changed by now if the NFL didn't think it would take away from the Patriots Super Bowl win that year. Polamalu is the best safety in the league and this happened at some point later in last season. Actually watch a Steelers game and count how many times he's within 5 yards of the tackle. And the basis for my Ravens argument was Jamal Lewis against your platoon of RB's. Though, if given the choice, I'd take 2,000 yards by Terrell Davis over about 2,000 by Mike Anderson and Tatum Bell in split action. Add to that they had the best offensive line in the league and point goes to Baltimore in that department. Lewis managed to reach 2,000 yards despite defenses being able to focus entirely on the run... that is an impressive running game. The basis for that argument was the Ravens defense. Which was the best in league history. The team gave up 4,000 yards all season. The best Patriots defense during their "dynasty" gave up 5,000. The Ravens would've had to play four more games to equal the Patriots defenses total. That Ravens defense gave up 10 points per game. The Patriots defense at their best gave up 14. Based on their average, the Ravens would've had to play 7 more games to equal the total points the Patriots gave up. The Ravens defensive numbers that season put even the Bears' 1985 numbers to shame. Don't judge your front four until you've played an O-Line. Buffalo and NY are easily bottom ten in the League in terms of offensive line. The Jets are bottom three. Hell, bottom one. I watched Junior Seau many times in Miami last season, though I didn't catch the Patriots game -- he certainly looked useless in teal and orange last season. Not one name in your secondary at this point scares any good WR... or QB. You're the only one who has trouble distinguishing which team is mine. Let's see... I argue against the Pats and suddenly I'm a fan of whatever team I think is better than them? Name one person on this board who's ripped Roethlisberger harder than I have. I'm certainly no Steelers fan. And I still mantain that Denver was one play away from winning that game against Pittsburgh. If Champ Bailey could've caught that very catchable INT, he had a guarenteed TD and it would've changed everything -- 14 or 10 point swing considering Pittsburgh scored on that drive, I believe. As it was, Pittsburgh followed the blue print to beating the Broncos -- get ahead and force Plummer to win the game.
  5. Denver hasn't given up a touchdown despite a very potent Rams offense starting drives within the Broncos 30 about 5 times in the first half alone (and once within the five yard line). The Chiefs without Trent Green are probably still better than Buffalo or the Jets. In terms of your offense against our defense -- you just don't match up. Besides, what effect does last years opening game embarassment in Miami play in determining how good last years Broncos team was? Aside from better play from the defense, the Rams game was identical to that.
  6. Your defense isn't on par with any of the ones you mentioned. In fact, it's not even close so long as you're relying on a well-beyond his prime Junior Seau to shore up your LB's. Play a team first -- a good one, not Buffalo or the Jets -- and we can talk about this. Until then, I don't want to hear about your great running game and how great they were against two of the worst defensive lines in the League. - The Ravens had one of the best running attacks in the league and one of the best defenses in the history of the NFL. - The Buccaneers defense was also amazing, they had a very underrated QB in Brad Johnson, and two very good WR's in Keyshawn Johnson and Keenan McCardell. - The Steelers have a great defense, especially with the emergence of Troy Polamalu as god and their great defensive schemes, a top five running game, a top WR, another speedy playmaking WR, and a Qb who could get them the ball when asked without making mistakes. - The Bears... you have to be kidding when you bring up the Bears. They had a top 2 all-time defense and, one could certainly argue, the best running back of all-time. Let's not pretend your team is as good as any of the above. Your defense isn't even close to being as good as any of the above. Your running game doesn't match up to all but one of those teams, and you don't have anything in terms of WR's. I dare say your defense doesn't finish in the top 10 in the league -- lets not get excited about wins against two teams with bottom third offensive and defensive lines. Denver will be the first test of any kind for the Patriots. They're a dominant defense -- not so much in that they just suffocate you and don't allow you to gain anything, but they flat out do not give up points. New England learned this last postseason. Who's going to makes plays as a WR? Troy Brown against Champ Bailey? Nah. Chad Jackson or Doug Gabriel against Foxworth and Williams? Again... Nah. Watson against our athletic LB's? He hasn't done it yet.
  7. Very true, but any time you have Larry Johnson you're somewhat dangerous. Plus Eddie Kennison always torches the Broncos ever since he was one.
  8. Here's one interesting thing to look for in the game... Our #1 CB vs. your #1 WR - Mismatch in favor of the Broncos Our #2 CB vs. your #2 WR - Mismatch in favor of the Broncos Our #3 CB vs. your #3 WR - Mismatch in favor of the Broncos :D I really think the Patriots are going to have trouble doing anything against this Broncos defense. The LB's and secondary are too good and your offense is pretty one dimensional, at least on paper. That said, this Broncos offense looks incapable of scoring on anybody themselves.
  9. The Broncos offense has looked like s***, but the defense has kept two capable offenses out of the endzone so far this year. 9-6 Broncos beat the Chiefs in OT.
  10. Not sure of how many of you are keeping track of the University of Northern Colorado punting situation, but it's all happening in my home town so I think it's awesome! Well, for those who haven't paid attention, the backup punter stabbed the starting punter in the leg. Tonight, in an ironic twist, the UNC Bears beat Texas State because of a blocked punt! The third string punter also got injured during the game, so the team was down to their backup kicker, who's first attempt went all of 7 yards.
  11. Buffalo did good with the uniforms, but the logo still sucks. I also don't like how they wear the current shorts with the throwback jersey. Hopefully that gets fixed.
  12. Wow, wish I had thought to watch that Oklahoma/Oregon game. Oregon recovers and onside and gets a long TD pass, and the blocks a game winning FG attempt.
  13. If CU doesn't win this game, it's likely that they'll start the season 0-5 since they have to travel to Georgia next week and then at Missouri is a losable game as well. They'll beat Baylor, but after that they have two ranked teams in Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Couldn't happen to a better school!
  14. Too bad I have to work tonight and will be unable to watch the Dan Hawkins era at Colorado start off 0-3 after they get destroyed by Arizona State.
  15. Ya gotta kind of put this one on Jamarcus Russell, right? First he makes a poor throw on the non-P.I. Then he takes that sack, then he throws it five yards short of the endzone.
  16. They had the same play down the sideline twice in a row. Hell, there's another wide open WR running down the sideline.
  17. ... that ball was tipped, but that still has to be pass interference. Auburn definetely caught a break there.
  18. Thanks for reminding me! Forgot that it was on.
  19. Well, on that final drive he was, what, 7 for 7? That helped his numbers quite a bit. Before that he was throwing balls he shouldn't have, hitting WR's in the knees on short posts, and just not looking good. And yeah, it's a completely different game without those miscues. It's still within' reach if we can get some stops. Quinn might be able to carry over that final drive success into the second half. With Lloyd Carr standing on the Michigan sideline, I still have faith. However, I'll stand by my point that #20 for Notre Dame is atrocious. He looks completely clueless.
  20. 27-7, Notre Dame's getting destroyed -- there's no reason to think the offense will score again, let alone score at least 20. Brady Quinn looks absolutely awful. Terrail Lambert, #20 on Notre Dame's defense, looks remarkably worse.
  21. I'm debating the point that if you had a legit WR you'd have the 'best offense bar none' in football... not many WR's in this league would make you better than the offenses in Indianapolis, Denver, Cincinatti, and some other places.
  22. Why wouldn't Pittsburgh have beat you if Denver hadn't? They beat Cincinatti, Indianapolis, Denver, and Seattle -- four teams that were better than the Patriots. If you really think you're one legit WR away from having the best offense in the league, you're nuts.
