  1. I'm convinced that last night's victory was the last joy I'm going to get from the Sox this year. I certainly hope that's not the case, but if it is I will be thankful to have had that game at least. One of the best games in my recent memory... even if it was all for nothing.
  2. And... go. Enjoy Florida.
  3. We would be wanting the Sox to do the same thing, to be honest. Not to lose, per-se, but to find some way to keep the Yankees from getting in.
  4. You asked a question, mostly just to hear yourself answer it. It's one game in the baseball season. Yes, TB would be favored and should be favored, but anything can happen. Frankly, it isn't much fun trying to predict any particular game in baseball. It isn't like football in that way. Even for the best teams its a 60/40 thing.
  5. There is something horribly, horribly ironic about their propensity to get stolen-against to death while not being able to take a base when it matters. Clearly, Crawford is f***ed in the head right now. He's a guy who always looked so natural stealing bases in the past. Suddenly he looks nervous. Both he and Lackey need some therapy in the offseason. I'm not even kidding. Crawford needs the more "normal" sports psychology type therapy. Lackey needs the "real" 'work out your s***' kind of therapy. I would also suggest that Ellsbury, Crawford and Pedroia spend the off-season working out together. Help Crawford feel like a central and important part of the team. I'm still optimistic that Crawford can become the player we all know he is. Also, between Ellsbury, Crawford and Kalish I can envision a tremendous OF moving forward. Maybe just not this year.
  6. What a pathetic f***ing loss. People can give Theo all the s*** in the world--and he probably deserves a bunch of it--but Beckett and Lester have folded when they could least afford to have their #1 and #2 pitchers fold. I understand a mediocre start here and there, but basically 5 straight starts (3 by Lester, 2 by Beckett) of shittiness is not what the doctor ordered. Not sure what to make of it. Now the team needs to win out, AND pray for the Rays to lose, OR beat the Rays in TB to get in. Not much chance, IMO. Just dreadful.
  7. Probably not a good reason to want to sign him here... Also quite sure that he's about the last guy John Henry would wat working under him.
  8. I just want to point out while calls for Ellsbury for MVP float throughout the land--arguably one of the best seasons ever for a leadoff hitter--that the Sox have two homegrown MVP caliber players drafted by this FO in a very short period. this shouldn't be taken lightly. Theo and co had the chance to pull the trigger on hundreds of other players but chose those guys and they have become some of the best in the league. It doesn't eliminate responsibility for mistakes that have been made but people should think long and hard before wantonly advocating that the sox should exercise some weird form of accountability and just find some replacement for Theo. It won't be as easy as some seem to think.
  9. I thought he looked more like old Drew than pathetic Drew, but the sample size is pretty small. It was just reassuring to have a guy up there who could decipher a pitch and either swing or not swing.
  10. Me too. I don't have that confirmed, but an internet search didn't give other names. I think Darren Erstadt was mentioned.. in 2000 he had 100 exactly. Otherwise, I looked at Rickey Henderson and he never had more than 75. Seems like Ells might be tops. As far as WAR goes, Fangraphs has him as the MVP, with 8.8 WAR.
  11. He was 1/5 with an RBI, but I think he also hit a grounder to move a guy from 2nd to 3rd, IIRC.
  12. Honestly, I didn't think he looked too bad. He prompted me to ask something like "I've he's able to stay in the game throughout then why hasn't he played at all before now? Pussy." Or something to that end. He looked like Drew, but that means patient. Frankly, with the way the team has looked lately, a bit of Drew's patience might be sorely needed.
  13. Weird, weird twist to an otherwise good night. Lost in all of this is the fact that, I believe, Ellsbury now has the record for RBI by a leadoff hitter in the history of baseball. Someone else can confirm that, but a brief search online identifies some other guys who approached 100, but none at his level. Is this the MVP this year?
  14. oh christ, who cares. Just suck it up and move on. John, you pitched a really valiant game. The type of thing that could resurrect your career here in Boston if you match it with some decent playoff appearances.
  15. I'm not able to see. What's he saying?
  16. I think someone else should probably make it. I made it for the first game mostly and lost, also I'm going to be missing the game tomorrow because I'm working late.
  17. You make me laugh. Thanks for looking out for my expectations. I find that wins like tonight make the whole venture of loving baseball entirely worth it. Completely gratifying. All the better because I let myself care.
  18. Let's just stop with the Crawford s*** talking for long enough to close this game down and savor the victory.
  19. Ellsbury is the man. An absolute stud. f***. Yeah.
  20. Any chance Lavarnway can pinch hit for Salty? Too risky with him behind the plate probably, but his bat would be very nice.
