  1. Hansen was in the bigs within weeks of signing. THAT is too fast. Otherwise you just have to judge what the talent level of the player is. You better believe that if a player is good enough to actually contribute to winning a WS he will be playing. There are many examples of success when brought up young and I trust this FO to make the right call.
  2. I think this team is well constructed as is. I feel confident when Crisp comes up that something can happen, sometimes it does. He has scored 17 runs in the last 30 days, 3rd on the team tied with lowell behind Youk and Ortiz. Over that time he has gone .284/.330. I'm all for keeping him in there until this team starts to falter. Until then don't mess with a good thing.
  3. 198 Runs for (2 behind Yankees, tied with Tigers for 2nd best in baseball) 125 Runs Against (4 better than Oakland for best in baseball)
  4. Yep. Very good game. I hope that those who talked s*** about dice realize that he's a special pitcher. How many complete games do we see in a season? 2, 3? Great job for him, good job by the offense to take care of him.
  5. They are damn good. Each and every player on the 25 man roster has his particular value and seems to know his role on this team right now. I like it especially on offense with WMP, Cora, Hinske and Mirabelli filling with great skill and poise.
  6. He's at least smart enough to know what pitches are likely to be FAT. After those long ABs you just knew Seay would be throwing some juicy filet mignon first pitch.
  7. First pitch triple. Let him have his CG.
  8. the diCektor has been in control all night. I would think about letting him close out the game, just to let him have his Fenway moment. I'm sure I'll be ripped for saying that, but its not that unorthodox to let a guy finish off a 5 hitter with 109 pitches going into the 9th.
  9. great pitch dice. sheff almost broke in half.
  10. Why be a rookie hater? WMP is a year and a half older than Ellsbury and hasn't really played a full season himself. The defensive metrics do say that WMP is not a bad fielder. Apparently in the games he has played in he has gotten to the right number of balls compared to league average to make himself appear to be good. Statistics make up for plays unseen. I haven't missed many games the past few years and this guy isn't a better CF than Crisp. He simply isn't. I would be willing to bet Crisp has better defensive tools in any of the three positions, except perhaps his arm in right. That doesn't mean Crisp is a gold glover. he makes many bad reads. But WMP is just bad sometimes in the outfield and is a roller-coaster every other day. I would say this is a place where fielding statistics simply haven't caught up with what is observable by anyone who actually watches them play. Another possibility is that Crisp is actually playing better in CF this season, as he appears to be getting to just about everything hit his way. Perhaps the stats will be lopsided next year and Crisp is just showing what a year of playing CF can do for your skills as a young man with great speed. I'm not ready to get rid of Crisp. As I've advocated many times I think he would be the ideal 4th OF with Ellsbury leading off and playing CF. WMP should be converted to a 1B or so Youkilis can move to 3B, or he should be dealt. I agree with you that we haven't seen what he can do, which could preserve his trade value. His power remains largely "unknown" which I think could net something nice.
  11. That's pretty remarkable. It is probably the right place for him. None (few) of us have actually seen him play, but his numbers, his reputation and his performance appear to be accurate: he is extremely well developed for his age.
  12. DP. Ouch.
  13. It was last-ups (8th inning) and 5 runs. lol. There, we finally got it.
  14. So, just in case anyone missed it, in case you're not score board watching: Sox score 6 in the 9th to win 6-5. I figured you should have to know that, you know, since this is talksox and all.
  15. So they have come back from 5 in the 9th against the Yankees, and 6 in the 9th against the Orioles at this point. that's pretty remarkable.
  16. You know it fred. We've seen these types of wins pretty consistently from them in the past few years. I told my wife in the 4th inning that this felt like a 'walk off' game. I wasn't right, but it did feel like one of those where, if the flood gates were opened, the Sox would have a good chance. this was a classic fenway game. The fans certainly came alive when the Sox showed even the slightest amount of life. They were patient at the plate and took advantage of that selectivity, especially Varitek who ripped that single when Ray had lost the zone and had to pump one over early in the count (1-0 I believe). You knew that would be essentially a 2-0 or 3-1 pitch: heater that gets lots of the plate.
  17. I'm pretty sure there's a flap of skin hanging off his fingertip. I think 'blister' is putting it lightly.
  18. This team is just so balanced from top to bottom. Everyone in the lineup is either an OBP player or has some speed. They are all mature and polished hitters.
  19. What a f***ing win! You could feel it building. You. Can't. Give. Them. Chances!
  20. WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! RED SOX WIN!!! WHAT A VICTORY. THANK YOU ORIOLES
  21. Why the hell would they change pitchers? 1 out in the 9th and your IF drops an easy pop-up? Are the O's trying to help the sox win?
  22. Ths game is not over yet. Down 5 isn't a good place to be, no doubt, but this offense can score. It would be nice to pick up Beckett if possible. Why in the name of god would you try to throw that ball Romero?
  23. Exactly. The point of drafting guys out of college is that they are slightly more polished. Those years count for something too. A guy who comes out of college shouldn't need to spend the same amount of time in the minors as someone who gets drafted out of college. It is a luxary to wait on your kids to grow up, but Buchholz appears to be the best pitcher in the system at this point. If you're looking at an extended period of needing someone's services I say Lester first, Buchholz second, Hansack etc.,
  24. Bowden gives up 1 H in 7 IP, 5 K, 1 BB, 1.37 ERA
