C'mon a700. This is crap. Youk won't match Helton's off years? You're treating Helton like he is Gehrig... currently. He's not.
Sometimes I feel like we're watching two completely different players when we're discussing Youkilis. You see an average at best 1B who should be dealt whenever even a mediocre player could be had in return. (not in the case of Helton who is admittidly better than mediocre, but you were adamant during the off season that they move him for a more powerful 1B because he wasn't worth of being in a top-notch offense). I see a guy with one of the best eyes in baseball, a player that not a single pitcher appears to like to pitch to, as evidenced by his ability to draw walks DESPITE hitting directly in front of one of the best hitters in baseball. He is versatile, in the lineup and in the field. He is also learning how to pull the trigger when he gets in good hitters counts and I think that is the biggest difference between this season and last. I'm just guessing, but he appears more aggressive this season.
Granted, his power leaves something to be desired. Sometimes he seems to put a really good swing on the ball and it is a fly out, especially to the opposite field. That said, at this point he is on pace to score 124 R this season and to get 222 hits with 23 HR with 94 RBI, mostly from the two-hole. Those aren't Hall of Fame numbers, but most players aren't Hall of Famers. That makes them all the more realistic to me. I don't think he's hitting out of his mind. He's hitting linedrives and working counts in his favor. He's not hitting gap shot after gap shot, or knocking 12 HR out of the park in 10 days. He's hitting like a good hitter hits and I think he can--and will--continue it to remain around .300 each and every season.
