  1. You would have gone with Papelbon first and Lopez second, huh? that's fair enough. I probably would have too. Of course, now in hindsight, with Lopez and Papelbon still fresh and this game not over yet it looks like it was the right call.
  2. Yeah, that was pretty weird. I admit it. Sorry man, extra innings. My apologies to all. I just get sick of the rabid negativity toward things that just don't make sense, or when the results don't warrant such negativity.
  3. Umm, in the universe of all available Red Sox pitchers in the 12th inning on 7/7/07.
  4. Thanks for only wanting to see like 6 pitches tonight brandon inge.
  5. I get the sense that he rarely does otherwise. Playing the percentages does not guarantee success, but neither does going with hunches. Percentages and probabilities tend to even themselves out over time.
  6. predictably critical. I'm sure youkilis would have had a hit in that previous situation, right? 95% of people around here can't get enough of bashing decisions made about this team, whether from the manager or the frong office. It's hilarious monday morning quarterbacking and baseless speculation gone wild.
  7. Okay, everyone lambaste Tito for bringing in Youkilis. Go ahead... Oh wait, that was a good move. I bet he doesn't get much credit for it here.
  8. Alright Drew. Clutch walk here. Let's go.
  9. 3-1, this is where you hit it HAAAD someplace, Kid!
  10. Let's hope that he has them exactly where he wants them..
  11. It's time for one of those shots where you stand and admire it and then smile like a goofy bastard as you round the bases Manny.
  12. Manny will get his 3rd chance after an IBB. f***ing get embarassed and do something Manuel!!!
  13. Why the hell not? A loss tonight and a loss tomorrow are worth the same thing, for what it's worth. Divisional ground has nothing to do with it.
  14. This is just alarmist crap. Your shaky finger is all over that red button isn't it? Have some faith in the guys on this team. They are all professionals. papelbon should be up and ready (that's where I disagree with what Tito is doing) but I have no problems giving some of these other pitchers a chance when the bases are empty. A good team wins with all of its players.
  15. Of course we should, but that is not the argument you were making initially and when you called me out. You called me out because he was struggling and you wanted Papelbon in there. Then when he got out of it you started hemming and hawing between that and not overworking Okajima. Now it was all not overworking Okajima. you put papelbon in and he has to pitch 2 innings. You have faith in the rest of your pen and he may not have to (he still may have to). You have another all star in your pen, who is already in the game and who has one more inning in him and may have a very easy inning. If this is a home game I'm putting Papelbon in like the Tigers put Jones in. But we are guaranteed to need him this game if we are going to win. That's not the same as saying we are not TRYING to win. In order to win we need to get the lead and KEEP the lead. Papelbon is the best way to keep the lead.
  16. Tito doesn't see this as a must win (or even a 'should win' given the matchup). He will take his chances in this position.
  17. yeah, this is what you said. I assumed you meant rolling the dice in terms of possibly losing the game, not okajima's longterm health. Are you really worried that Okajima is going to blow out his arm?
  18. I guess. I didn't hear his longevity as the reason you didn't want him pitching. Your condicention started when okajima started giving up baserunners. I didn't know you were concerned about his long term health. You should have said that at the time if that's your argument. If he gets a 10 pitch 1-2-3 inning this argument isn't happening.
  19. yeah, that's right. When confronted with the choice you overwork your set-up man instead of your relief ace, particularly when you have a 12 game lead. Again, though, Papelbon is nearly guranateed to pitch at least an inning in this game. The choice is whether you wanted him to pitch 2 or 1.
  20. If If If... baseball is all about Ifs. What matters is what actually happens. Okajima works out of it. I think my priorities were right: have Papelbon warmed up. Let Okajima start the inning. If he gets in trouble bring in Papelbon. Tito did part of what I wanted (leaving Okajima in) but none of the rest. At the beginning of the inning it seemed reasonable to expect that Okajima could have had an easy 1-2-3 inning.
  21. And I say that the difference between using Papelbon for two innings and Okajima for two innings this season has been almost nill. Okajima is getting outs at an alarming rate just like Papelbon does. I'm not saying to give up on either game. if I was saying to rest Papelbon and pitch Timlin then I would be giving up on this game. that's not exactly what I said, as you can see from my posts. If Okajima was able to go this many batters then he should be used for this many batters. He was, it worked out, Papelbon is fresh, we can still win this game. All is well in my world.
