Why are you so against getting Jayson Werth? He's there, he's available, he's interested, he's solid on both sides of the ball, etc., Perfect fit, IMO.

I love the idea of adding Werth instead of overpaying for the flashiness of Crawford. Ellsbury Pedroia Gonzalez Youkilis Ortiz Werth Drew Lowrie Saltalamacchia is a sick, sick lineup.

If you watch some of his highlights and look at his hig chart, Gonzalez is prepared to be a beast in Fenway. This is a guy who, like Ortiz, can hit the ball out of the park on what appears to just be a high flyball to CF or LF. I think we're in for some fun watching him play.

Yep. Just a reminder to everyone. Sox probably just got Adrian Gonzalez without dealing Lowrie, Kalish, Bard, Doubront, Iglesias, Buchholz (yes, some would have traded Buchholz for him), etc., Virtually no loss at all to the current MLB team. None. That's why you wait for the right deal and play hardball with prospects as much as with established players. Let's be honest, wouldn't some people have had the Sox dealing Rizzo for a middle reliever or two last year? That would have sucked.

Re: additional (4th) prospect being a 2010 draft pick: "@jorgearangure Couldn't be -- PTBNL has to be named in 6 mos., and 2010 draftees won't have been signed a year by then. Prob a Rule 5 elig." I assume this is true. I love how people just immediately leap to the Sox dealing ANOTHER 1st round pick. There's just this natural inclination for people to think that one year of an established player is worth 4, 5, 6 1st round talents. WAR says otherwise.

Even though it doesn't seem like it, Tex has been fighting against Youkilis for GG at 1st... or should have been. Youk is a great fielder.

What do you mean by this? The team screwing around with him? THey signed him to a good one year deal, he produced at an elite level in a contract year (again) and now he'll get a good payday elsewhere. In the process he knocked two of the Sox players out for extended periods by being a middle linebacker charging into the OF after flyballs. I think Beltre's departure was predictable when they signed him last year. Gonzalez has literally been THE target from the moment the Sox lost out on Teixeira. This is sweet. Finally, a f***ing big bat to get this club where they should have been with Teixeira.

Twitter really is the best format for these types of things: Importance of first-round picks RT @alexspeier: Confirmed: Kelly, Rizzo and Fuentes will be the prospects going to San Diego --Rob Bradford. I love it. I really hope people recognize the value of prospects and draft picks from here on out. Let's never talk about just throwing in whoever it takes to make a deal happen. The Sox presumably could have traded for nearly any player with the right combination of talent, but the prospects are simply too valuable. Rizzo, Kelly and Fuentes is a lot of talent going to SD but is only THREE players from the Sox otherwise deep system. Good deal all around.

Can't worry about things that are out of your control" What a weird existence it must be to have your future life impacted by other people's decisions. That said, there are worse things in life than to be told that you have been traded to the San Diego Padres, you will eventually live in San Diego and probably see regular big league about 2 years earlier than you were planning on last night.

Or we could just throw in Doubront, Kalish and/or Iglesias like others have suggested. You know, to be SURE that the done deal is done. It doesn't matter as long as we get him, etc., EDIT: thanks for holding a reasonable line, Theo. Glad you're in control and not the impulsive Sox fans I know.

Padres writer (I think): Hearing that #RedSox package for Adrian Gonzalez includes: Casey Kelly, Anthony Rizzo and Reymond Fuentes. That seems about right to me.

I'm with Doj on this one actually. Navarro will be an MLB utility player (wait, maybe I'm not with Doj... ) so he actually has some trade value. He's not the next Hanley Ramirez, however.
