  1. Your response to a small sample size of productive games by an injury replacement (with 50 career hits and 0 career homers) is to catastrophically reduce the quality of defense at first base by moving a career DH with a balky calf to the infield? I love Ortiz as much as the next Sox fan, but I have no hesitation in saying that moving him to first for anything other than an interleague game is a worse idea than hiring Eric Clapton as a babysitter. There are a myriad of options...some bad, some good, but the Sox have not played Ortiz in the field outside of the NL for over a decade. Ortiz himself is always willing to do whats best for the team, so the fact that this has not happened tells me that both Papi and the Sox know better.
  2. Yes, I would. Because given a choice between tradition-bound older people who can have intensely interesting conversations abouit baseball and baseball history, and dumb, obnoxious frat boys who lace every sentence with Dane Cook jokes and who consider Twitter a viable form of both communication and journalism, I'll take the former every time. I'd rather an entire fanbase filled with Ken Burns clones than a single guy who turns off a no-hitter in the sixth because there haven't been enough home runs.
  3. To hell with this. I don't want baseball fandom to be full of any more stupid young people with s***** attention spans than it is already. If you want a game devoid of nuance and suspense with a fandom almost completely lacking in the ability to hold a meaningful conversation, watch basketball.
  4. Gomes just went full Napoli. That was a hell of an at-bat.
  5. No, forgetting is unintentional and potentially forgivable. He knew and stated ahead of time that he had no intention of starting it. He knows what he did.
  6. If you go look at one of his posts, you will see he has already been chastised appropriately.
  7. I am conflicted. On one hand, I despise the Yankees and all they stand for, as well as a good portion of their fanbase. On the other hand, during the Yankees game tonight, I had several tables full of Yankees fans and they all tipped really, really well. Great game, though.
  8. Jacko, you'd better not renege on your obligations here. It may not be enough to ban you, but remember: I cannot change usernames or passwords, but the two sections of user profiles I do have control over are avatars and signatures. Unless you want to advertise My Little Pony every time you post for the next month, I would seriously reconsider.
  9. A week ago at work, one of the waitresses forgot to put the ice cream on the plate for one of the desserts. As she was walking towards the dining area one of the managers reminded her to put it on. I said "remember the a la mode". No one laughed. Only one person even understood what I meant. I weep for the future.
  10. Manziel to the Browns. Because they have had such stunning success at picking up QBs the last decade or so. Don't they have the most starting QBs in the league in the last five years or something?
  11. What is the latest in the season someone has been over .400 since the last time Ted Williams hit .400? Obviously no one has done it yet, but some guys must have carried it on a bit into the season, right?
  12. My new job means less internet time, but on the plus side, there are TVs everywhere so I don't miss any of the game. It's not radio, but it's better than nothing. Just saw the Yankees lose as I was finishing up tonight, so that was awesome. I wonder why it's been so slow around here this season.
  13. You can say that again.
  14. Morrow's final line: 2.2IP, 0H, 4R, 8BB, 1K. I find that absolutely hilarious. Why would you pull a guy who had a no-hitter going?!
  15. I haven't talked about it much on here, but I've maintained the opinion that the cold has been a big factor in the Sox' early offensive struggles. It's been a chillier April than usual.
  16. Clay Buchholz, a semi trailer filled with naked women, a life-size statue of Shaq made entirely out of platinum-plated diamond, seven hundred million dollars, and a written and signed promise never to trade him to the Yankees. Anything short of this is going to result in insincere promises to "think about it" while the Angels execs make the "jacking off" motion with their hands and roll their eyes on the other end.
  17. Expect all of this, but remember to be joyful that all of this will occur with the knowledge that your kid won't be raised by a Yankees fan.
  18. There is a difference between criticism and bitching. a700 criticizes the team constructively. So does Bellhorn, or both of the ortizes (i and rj). Fred and d-money and a couple others just complain. I can't count how many times I've read the words "Red Sux" and the like. I don't care if someone posts a point-by-point essay of a post about what they think needs to be done to fix the problems the team has. They might be as wrong as User Name? is when he thinks a woman is interested in him, but at least they are trying. But just calling guys by infantile nicknames and foaming at the mouth about how the Red Sox are terrible contributes nothing to the board, annoys me, annoys most of the other members of this site, and could quite possibly be responsible for climate change.
  19. So there is a silver lining, after all!
  20. This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard since the last time you said something. I love Nava, I was really hoping he would get back into the swing of things, but from a front office AND dugout standpoint, I understand and even support the decision. I think, given enough time, he would again play like he did last year, but the Sox don't have the luxury of waiting more than a few weeks. So their choice to send him down was the right one.
  21. I was at my second day at my new job, and you should have heard the Sox and Yankees fans going at each other in the sports bar area when Pineda got ejected. It was glorious.
  22. 3.5 games out in late April. BLOW IT ALL UP! Okay, yeah, this game sucked, and having Ellsbury be such a big part of it is awful to watch, but it's nothing we haven't seen before. Tomorrow's a new game, let's win that.
  23. Maybe you should stop. Then, as an added bonus, you wouldn't have to post in gamethreads anymore.
  24. They should have suspended Braun, just because. "Hey, we noticed you not involving yourself in the fight. 5 games. Oh, you were also chewing gum a little too loudly. That's 2 more."
  25. Well, this is disappointing. Hopefully they can come back again like they did last night. It would be nice to win on Patriot's Day.
