  1. This guy. This guy knows what he's talking about.
  2. The synagogue doesn't charge for parking?! (I know, I'm a terrible person)
  3. I'll always fondly remember the way people like John Sterling and Susan Waldman acted like Phil Hughes was going to be the next Roger Clemens for the next ten years. Chamberlain is a good example, too. Although I think Sanchez has far more potential than those two ever did.
  4. I quite honestly have no idea what to make of you. Are you a Red Sox fan just trying to make us all laugh? Are you a Yankees fan using satire to show us how foolish you think we are? (If so, you are failing). Are you just...insane? I'm seriously asking, because this is the first time since an incident at the Greyhound station in Hartford ten years ago that I have been genuinely concerned about the mental health of a complete stranger. I just...if you need help, man, we can be there for you. Don't listen to the voices.
  5. There have been a lot of threads started in the past about tickets. Where to get them, who has them and who does not, et cetera. I thought it would be a good idea to have one place where anyone (and by anyone I mean members of this site, not scammers who join to post scammy ticket things to scam people like the scammers they are) can post their information, whether they are looking for tickets, have some to trade or sell, or want to organize an Ocean's Eleven-level heist of Red Sox tickets. (If that is the case, I will gladly be Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, or even Eddie Jemison or Bernie Mac, but I will not be Casey Affleck or Scott Caan. f*** that.) I'm going to pin this one so we can continue to use it in subsequent seasons.
  6. Agreed. We'll miss him, and no matter who we replace him with, we'll be losing production, but it won't be the death knell for any further success. I think of Ortiz kind of like Tom Brady, as much as I hate the guy. When Brady was out for a season, and Matt Cassel replaced him, the Patriots still went 11-5, because the Patriots still had a great team behind him. Compare that to the Colts. They were contenders, or at least competitive, every year. Then Manning left, and their first year without him, they went 2-14, because unlike the Brady situation, Manning was the only great player they had. Losing Ortiz is much more like that Brady-less Pats team then the Manning-less Colts team.
  7. You should have heard Rob Dibble on ESPN radio. He was ripping the Mets for that.
  8. 79 pitches, no walks. In eight innings. That's...pretty good.
  9. The reason I put your last thread into the Gamethread was because this forum is for Gamethreads only.
  10. Yeah, I've heard hardcore things about the world of public accounting.
  11. First 4-game sweep of the Yankees since June 1990. I knew my Dad took me to a Sox-Yankees game when I was four because of a funny story he likes to retell, and I know bits and pieces about the game that he remembers, or from my uncle who was there. So out of curiosity, I checked Baseball Reference. Yep, I was at one of those four games back in 1990. June 4th, Sox won 5-3 and Dana Kiecker started the game for them. My dad likes to reminisce about the fact that one of his friends who went with us, (a Yankees fan, sadly) was very drunk and spent most of the game screaming "DANA IS A GIRLS NAME" from the stands until some guy threatened to kick his ass if he didn't shut the hell up.
  12. I didn't say there was. In fact, if you read back, I said I disagree with him. I was simply saying that his statement seemed to imply that HE believed this to be true.
  13. So basically this all boils down to everyone disagreeing with Jones and just arguing semantics? (Incidentally, I think "Just Arguing Semantics" should be the new official tagline of TalkSox. We could include in on the logo at the top of the screen).
  14. Jays and O's both lost today. Icing on the cake. Beating the Yankees is still more sweet than increasing the division lead.
  15. Absolutely. I remember during the 2013 WS, there was a Twitter account run by a Cubs fan that collected and retweeted some of the horrible stuff from angry Cards fans. There were hundreds of Tweets that were horrifically racist, beyond anything I would expect from even angry sports fans. Stuff about Ortiz and Uehara, mostly, but even some nasty stuff about their own player, Kolten Wong, after he got picked off.
  16. I think your animus for Max is causing you to be deliberately obtuse, UN? Jones never says that, but I think what he did say heavily implies it. Saying "we have two strikes against us" and "in baseball, they don't need us" is pretty much saying it without actually saying it. I happen to disagree with that, as do all of us, but Jones wasn't exactly being subtle.
  17. If you think you are disappointed in Farrell, you should check out some NYY message boards, or even just talk to some Yankees fans around town. All of the ones I know personally are wondering why he hasn't been fired yet, and the ones online are basically calling for the guy to be drawn and quartered. I don't think anyone ever really likes the manager of their favorite team. Every loss hurts, even if you know intellectually that a team can't go 162-0, and there's always going to be the temptation to blame it on the boss.
  18. I watched the on-field interview with Hanley after the HR. I can't be entirely sure, but I think they had a screen in the dugout replaying Ortiz's 2013 ALCS Game 2 slam.
  19. HOLY MOTHERf***ING SHITf*** HE f***ING DID IT! ...f***.
  20. At least Toronto is continuing their death spiral.
  21. I actually don't know; is there even one Black, Latino, or Asian player in the NHL? Or is it all Slavs, Russians, Scandinavians, and Canucks?
  22. I don't think there are as many obstacles to playing in the MLB for black men as there were decades ago. There may be some (I obviously have no direct experience), but I have to wonder if part of the paucity of black players is that more black kids growing up just don't want to play baseball? All the kids I went to high school with played, watched, and talked constantly about basketball. No one gave a crap about baseball. Also, I have to laugh at the fact that the chart Ted posted didn't even bother to include the racial breakdown of the NHL.
  23. Am I the only one who noticed that this seems to be an alt account, and that whomever owns said alt account clearly forgot to switch back to their main before posting this? Haha...I wonder who it is? They're obviously using a proxy.
  24. I am of two minds about this. I try to keep political subjects out of this forum, as most of you know, but this is clearly baseball related, given that these statements were made about baseball by a baseball player. I'm going to let this discussion play out, however, I ask that everyone try to remain civil, and also try to keep the discussion from moving away from baseball. SC30, that is why I edited your post.
