  1. what I meant by that was that he can makd contact and whatnot, spray the ball around a little. Granted, he has wayy too many K's to be considered a contact hitter. Bad post on my part.
  2. I agree that Buck is a great manager, and horribly underrated. But I dont think he's better than Torre. IDK, just watching this guy on a daily basis for going on 10 years there really isnt anyone I would prefer the Yankees have.
  3. How is it begging for a spot when Washington has a GUARANTEED MAJOR LEAGUE contract offer on the table?
  4. i'll look for stats now. But basic background on Cabrera is he came up with the Diamondbacks, bombed, went to Japan (Seibu Lions), became a MEGA STAR, made tons of money, made a huge name for himself, etc. He's from Venezuela, and played for the Caracas Lions in the Carribbean Seires earlier in the month. There were rumors at one point that George Steinbrenner was going to make a HUGE effort to bring him to the Bronx, however I havent heard anything about that in like a year. Off to find stats for you.
  5. ok, good point.
  6. I am a wee bit surprised he's still here.
  7. Petagine wasnt as good as Cabrera over in Japan. Cabrera (tied with Tuffy Rhodes and Sadaharu Oh) is the single season Home RUn champion over there. This guy is the NPB equal of someone like Pujols or A-Rod. He would not come back on a non-guaranteed contract.
  8. Also, isnt Crisp supposed to be the leadoff man with Loretta batting 2?
  9. You're STUPID if you think Cabrera would sign a minor league deal with the type of money he makes over in Japan. ...I said a while back that I would like to sign Juan to a minor league deal. Wonder where he ends up.
  10. Because there is nothing to talk about. And im sure the kids care. You were a kid once, right??
  11. Page is hilarious. Especially the one discussing Soriano and Texas.
  12. That is a very good post, excellent in fact. Good stuff there. Torre in 96 He was fired from St. Louis in '95, then came to the Yanks before the 96 season. Just a mistake, im sure. Fair. I think La Russa is a little overrated, but thats still a very fair statement. Right. They have had similar careers to a certain point in their careers (1st title), however Tito still has a long way to go. There is no question that this thread has opened up my eyes (and my mind) to Terry Francona.
  13. welcome (this is my 2,340th post )
  14. I hope he holds out. lol
  15. Thats why its so hard to post in the game thread...people do play by play practically and before you know it you have a 12 page thread by the 7th inning.
  16. and I did acknowledge that, and I was kidding.
  17. 2003 ALCS playoffs, red sox vs. yankees: History will never accept difficulties as an excuse. 1999 ALCS playoffs, red sox vs. yankees: History will never accept difficulties as an excuse. 1986 World Series, red sox vs. Mets: History will never accept difficulties as an excuse. 1978 AL East playoff, red sox vs. yankees: History will never accept difficulties as an excuse. 2005 AL East race, red sox vs. yankees: History will never accept difficulties as an excuse. 1946 ALCS playoffs, red sox vs. cardinals: History will never accept difficulties as an excuse. These are better, right Youkilis?? lol jp guys, just having some fun.
  18. you're sick! Only someone like Zach would get off on Pedro beating up poor, old, helpless, attacking Don Zimmer.
  19. No, because Manny would get mad everytime Rog threw it over the plate
  20. Because he had less than 6 years and more than 3. Those guys have to pay him, so rather than go to arbitration to determine his salary, they negotiated it.
  21. Yeah, I like Utley a lot. VERY good player.
  22. No. Those 1 year deals are just salary for this coming year (rather than going through arbitration). A Plyer needs 6 years of Major League service, or to be non-tendered a contract to become a Free Agent. Zambrano, Crisp, etc. are not free agents, nor will they be next year.
  23. idk man, PLacido Palonco or Alfonso Soriano. I think i'll take Alfonso Soriano. But hey, we can differ in opinion I guess.
