right lol oops. I only watched the last two innings and didnt really focus on the game as I was doing other things. I thought the score was the other way around. My mistake.
-
Right, I was just saying that it makes sense for the Yankees. I was solely referring to the Yankees. It obviously makes no sense for the Marniers. Trust me, harmless banter doesnt bend me out of shape. It just does in this instance because I know if I were to do similar things i'd get jumped all over and it would be you guys getting bent out of shape. Imagine the reactions if I had a Boston Sucks avatar or something.
-
I would put the " " smiley, but my fellow Yankee fans already did it for me. Thanks for the laugh though. Appreciate it after a day of Yankees losing and USA losing in the Futures game. Italia did win today which was nice, but thats a different story. Carry on.

I've stated several times before this year that I also root for the Mets. Not to the degree that I root for the Yankees but being that they play in and represent my hometown there really isnt any point to root against them unless they are playing the Yankees. So dont throw that bandwagon s*** at me, go back and check all of my posts and you will see that this isnt a bandwagon jumping scenario. Lets go Diamonbacks!! Kilo, this dumbass is who you should be throwing your bandwagon stuff at. An appearant bandwagoner. He was probably rooting for the DBacks in 2001 and started rooting for the Sox in 2003/2004. It was just Hughes and Tabata in the Futures game from the Yanks, right? Also, anybody know why Gossage and Tommy John were wearing World uniforms in the dugout? I've noticed things like this the past few years and was always curious. Right, I realize it doesnt make much sense from a Mariner standpoint, but for the Yankees it makes perfect sense. Agree? Yes it has, it's gotten under my skin a tad bit. Its not the fact that its occuring that bothers me, but it's the fact that it's being done via the actual forum and not through posts. I realize this is run by Sox a Sox fan and is a Sox board, but how about some respect from the BOARD. Like I said the first time I went on about something similar to this, I dont care what is said in a post, but it's ridiculous the way it's taking place. It's like George Steinbrenner putting "Boston Sucks" on the marquee outside the Stadium; or Rudy Giuliani putting a big "Boston Sucks" banner outside of city hall when he was mayor. Even though that's probably what they feel they wouldn't do it because of the disrespect factor. But in conversation or interview we know George has no problems sharing his feelings towards the Sox and we can pretty much gather that Rudy doesnt care for them very much either. It's just the principle. Whatever though, doesn't really matter anymore. Seems pointless to argue about it at this point. I might as well sit back and laugh at how idiotic some of it is considering how the Yanks have finished compared to the Sox and Mets in recent years.

Sure it does. Struggling pitchers sometimes find success with new surroudnings. Really nothing to lose, and in fact I think Piniero is an upgrade from Chacon. That trade makes perfect sense from a Yankee standpoint. ___________ Also, regarding the forum description "making the Mets look better since 2001" or whatever it says; thats the most ridiculous thing i've heard. And dont get me wrong, i'm not getting on the Mets, because I root for them too, but I am amazed by this statement. Including 2001, the Yankees have won 5 division championships and 2 American League championsips while the Mets have won 0 and 0. In 2001 the Mets finished just 2 games over .500. The only other year since where they finished over .500 was last year when they finished just 4 games above. 2002, 2003, and 2004 look like this: 75-86, 66-95, 71-92. To say the Yankees have been making the Mets look better since 2001 is humerously ridiculous. The Mets have been a disaster, as well as a laughingstock here in New York since 2001-2002 with the exception of last year when Omar Minaya finally brought some legitimacy to the franchise. With the exception of last year the Mets have been an absolute JOKE since 2001. Nice try though. I do find it pretty funny though that you would try and say that we make the Mets look better, when in fact you guys, yourselves havent finished better than us since 1995. And when it comes to this season regarding the Yankees "making the Mets look better" I dont exactly call a 3-3 record shameful. SOrry yeszir. But I must say, you're really on a role between this and the whole second place cafe thing, Good work.

Just wanted to share somethign I was thinking tonight. Melky Cabrera takes a lot of s*** from people, Boston fans and Yankee haters alike...even some Yankee fans, for his defense based on the mishap up in Boston last year. He earned the reputation as a bad outfielder for himself because of that, and also because of the error in right in his first game up this year (which I still say was the wind. I had a great angle of it sitting right down the right field line. But nevertheless). Melky is not a bad outfielder. He is a pretty good outfielder (I am hesitant to say very good, just because I want to see a little bit more still) with pretty good speed out there and a good arm (7 assists, I believe), and of course the ability to make a dazzling play here and there. The thing with him is he's a very aggressive outfielder, which has it's pros and cons. The pros have been on display all season with the great plays he continues to make. The cons were exemplified last year up in Fenway. This is nothing of significance, just wanted to share my thoughts.

It's definately an interesting debate to this point. But I say lets at least get to the half way point before worrying about awards. There is still a lot of baseball to be played and a lot can happen. Pitchers who are having great seasons may crumble and pitchers who are having mediocre-or worse seasons could emerge to become a dominant force in their respective league for the second half. Who knows. We'll see.

I'm going to the cape sometime in August. Hope to catch a few games.

Giambi won in 2002, right? lol it was so cool, I was in Italy at the time (Venice) and I pick up a USA Today the day after the home run derby and it's got Giambi on the front saying that he won the HR Derby...I was pretty excited to say the least lol.

http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/30/302451.jpg Jesus Montero, The 16 year old Venezuelan catcher we just signed pictured during spring training working out in intrasquad games during a two day tryout in Tampa. In one of the shortened 5 inning games he went 3-4 with a double, single, and a two run homer. EDIT: I have a hard time dealing with the fact that i'm older than the top catching prospect in the Yankees organization. Is this what all of you older guys feel like when watching sports?

Also, speaking of Guiel, I was hoping that somebody could clear something up for me. On yankees.com in the article reporting the clam of Guiel it said that he still has minor league options. As I understand it, if a player is on a 40 man roster for parts of 3 seasons, he no longer has any options. Guiel has played in the Major Leagues for the Royals in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and now 2006. I dont see how he could have options remaining. Can anyone help me out here?
-
It would make sense. With the arrival of Guiel today they need to make a move and with 13 pitchers on the roster right now Torre said they will be dropping a pitcher to make room for Guiel. I wonder if Chacon would make it through waivers, that's a tough call. If I had to guess, I would say not.
-
OK so lets see, the Yankees released Durazo back on the second and today called up Kris Wilson and claimed Aaron Guiel off waivers. I wonder how Guiel will do for us. He'll join the team tomorrow.
-
Well perhaps he will be the other starter the Cardinals needed. We'll soon see.
-
I agree with you, but do you guys really think Jeter was undeserving the past two years? Seriously.
-
Nobody is disagreeing with you there.
-
Good point. That screwed Tino out of a gold glove that year too. But really, there are onyl a handful of instances that you could point to. For the most part, the media guys do a pretty good job.
-
Come on now, gold gloves are awarded to the best defensive player at a particular position. Jeter was the best defensive shortstop the past two years in the American League. Granted, he had Alex Rodriguez over there covering tons of ground, but he still did a great job. Just because you dont like the guy doesnt mean you can dismiss his Gold Gloves and claim that he won them for nothing more than popularity. If it were a fan voting you would have a case, but the media members who voted for this award felt Jeter was deserving enough. No, I dont think that. You dont have to win a gold glove to be a good defensive player. With that being said, Alex Gonzalez is definately worthy of one. Having guys like him in the American League now will prevent Jeter from winning a third straight gold glove. I agree, Yankee fans call for way too many curtain calls. Whatever though, I dont feel it's too big a deal. Doesnt matter to me either way.
-
He would have* SUCKED in the rotation. My bad.
-
Schilling moved to the pen last year becauyse he SUCKED in the rotation. Last time I checked Jeter was doing pretty well at shortstop. In fact, correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't he the starting shortstop in the American League? I believe so. Also, A-Rod has played shortstop on a handful of occasions when Jeter was down. However, ike I have stated in the past, it is A-Rod's CHOICE to remain at third. If he wanted to, A-Rod could play short when Jeter is down, but he prefers to focus on his position, which is third base. Jeter is an above average fielder; I think his 2 gold gloves tell us that. IMO he is second to none when it comes to range to his right side (granted, to his left he's nothing to write home about, but every player has flaws) and you dont need to have pop to be an icon. Jeter makes up for his lack of pop with his opposite field "inside out" hits and his ability to move runners along. He is more than capable of hitting for power if he chooses ot, but he prefers to get more base hits rather than hitting for power and half of the time fly out. Because he doesnt have the pop of Babe Ruth doesnt mean he is a bad offensive player, because he is not. I'm not suggesting to use him as an every day player, but as somebody to platoon with Bernie and Melky. I think it's worth a shot, wouldnt hurt. Maybe another chance to have people rely on him would help him reinvent himself and fix his offensive struggles, who knows. Whatever though, just a suggestion. I acknowledged that he was being booed at some point last week. But he turned those boos into cheers with the walkoff home run and the other success he had last week. That's why the people were cheering and calling for curtain calls. He redeemed himself in the fans eyes. I really dont think there is anything laughable about redemption.
-
Good idea. ____________ And yeah, trust me guys, I realize how funny the suggestion of Jeff Weaver is, but we really have nothing to lose in giving him a shot. Hey, he really has nowhere to go from here but up, and maybe bringing him back he can redeem himself and have a Small/Chacon-like second half. Worth a shot in my opinion.

I intended on using this thread when I made it for things like trade talk/suggestions, so i'll do that here rather than start another thread, despite it's usage as a game thread. Now dont jump all over me and completely reject this suggestion upon first reading it and think about it for a second. I believe there are several former Yankees that could definately help the club right now. Jeff Weaver- Trust me, it's hard for me to promote bringing him back, as I absolutely HATED him when he was here and after we got rid of him, but really, what's the worst that could happen. We could get him EXTREMELY cheap, either pick him up on waivers or when he gets released and pay him his contract, or trade practically nothing and get the Angels to pick up a few million (figure they'll do that seeing as how they're content with just eating his entire contract). I think that even if just for a tryout period for a few starts it's at least worth a shot. If he does horrible we can always DFA him. It was guys like this that we brought in last year that were able to reinvent themself and do a good job. I think Weaver is at least worth a shot. Rondell White- We can get him for NOTHING and would definately help ease/improve the outfield situation. The fact that he can be a pretty quality bat in the lineup combined with the fact that we could literally get him for nothing sparks the thought in my mind. Why not, too? Let him, Bernie, and Melky platoon out there with the 2 outfield spots open. Juan Rivera- I dont know how willing the Angels would be to trade him, but considering that they are playing misrebly and have a full outfield I thin it's worth a shot at trying to get him. Maybe if the Yankees talked about a deal for Weaver they could try and talk the Angels into including RIvera in the deal. Rivera has developed into a very quality player. I was disappointed when we traded him and would LOVE to have him back. If we cant get him i'm all in favor of Rondell White OK, just some thought that were going around in my mind the past few days, what do you guys think?

Like Red said, following the success against the Braves and Marlins, the Yankee fans WERE NOT booing him. That would be ridiculous. Trust me, I know what the feeling was in the Stadium regarding A-Rod. It was the Mets fans who were booing. Nice try, though. Omar has been consistant about his desire to avoid trading Milledge for a long time, dating back to last season. He's not going to change his mind based on a one bad week. He's too rational a person. And definately wouldnt do it for an old pitcher in Smoltz. If anything, he would get either Willis or Zito. If they get some more pitching they will be able to compete with, and maybe beat any American League team, IMO. Also, in the World Series 3 or 4 (depending on who wins the All Star Game) of the games would be held in Shea Stadium under National League rules, where the AL team wouldnt have as much of an opportunity to outslug the Mets. I believe this team is as dangerous as any AL team, and has a very legit shot at making the World Series VERY interesting. I was thrilled about this one. 16 years old, will start playing next June for the Gulf Coast Yankees. In the meantime, at only 16, I suspect he will just work out at the Yankees dominican complex from time to time or something. I also believe the Yankees have a small complex in Venezuela, but am not positive. But at 16 years old we can afford to take our time with this kid and develop a GREAT catcher. Maybe enlist he help of an external catcher for a year or 2 after Jorge's time is up and then Montero, who I have heard people say is the best Venezulan prospect since Miguel Cabrera, can come up and take over. I cant wait. It's NOT AN EXPERIMENT. Alex Rodriguez IS the THIRD BASEMAN. Those were the conditions which he agreed to in order to come here to the Yankees. Would you please just shut up regarding this topic. You harp onit so much it's become pretty annoying. Just let it go. You're a Red Sox fan, why do you care? You should enjoy the Yankees' "refusal to improve their defense" rather than criticize it. Just let it go, PLEASE. Also, until guys like Curt Schilling and Manny Ramirez are no longer Boston Red Sox, just keep your mouth closed when it comes to calling other players prima donnas, especially those like Derek Jeter. I never thought I'd say this, but you may be right. Chacon might soon have to go. This is starting to get ridiculous. I hope that isnt the case, but fear that maybe George gets mad and does something drastic. Fire Torre, trade Hughes, Duincan, etc, ..something along those lines. I hope not. He's been cool all season, so he may do nothing, but on the other hand maybe he's due to erupt. Anyway, Happy Birthday George! I think it's pretty ridiculous that he has that avatar to begin with considering back on June 19, 2000 the Yankees beat the Sox 22-1. I wouldn't completely mind that.

I have mixed feelings on the idea. I love that Yankee Stadium is used for nothing but baseball anymore, but I also wish I was around when Yankee Stadium would host football and boxing matches and whatnot. whatever, whether they do or dont, it's cool I suppose.
