As of late it definately arguable that the Yankees pitching staff is better than the Red Sox. Being better off for the moment has absolutely nothing to do with the age of your pitchers and how many top prospects you have in the minors, so you're basically talking out of your ass. Randy, Moose, and Wang have been splendid the last month or so. Wright seems to have found himself lately (until the 6th inning, that is), and our only huge question mark is the 5th spot with Ponson. Our bullpen is deep, and although there are some inconsistecies, our relievers are much better than yours. GIve me Proctor over Seanez anyday. I'll take Villone over Tavarez. Farnsworth, although he has struggled when throwing more than one inning, throws harder than Timlin and it could be argued that he is about as good as Timlin due to his velocity and his slider. Not to mention we have the best closer in the history of the game. Our pitching staff, with the exception of Dotel (I dont really consider Pavano a part of the team anymore) is doing pretty damn well in the injury department, and will be doing better when Dotel joins the team in about 2 weeks (hopefully). You guys have had numerous injury problems throughout the course of the year. So much so that you were forced to call up the likes of Kason Gabbard. When you make pickups such as Kyle Snyder, that's not saying much for your pitching staff. I highly doubt Theo Epstein and Terry Francona are thrilled about having Jermaine Van Buren, Kyle Snyder, Manny Delcarmen, Kason Gabbard, Craig Hansen, and Jon Lester on the active roster instead of Matt Clement, Keith Foulke, Lenny DiNardo, Tim Wakefield, and Boomer Wells. When you're trading guys who were supposed to be key in the setup efforts for minor league relievers (David Riske and Javier Lopez, respectively) and juggling a pitcher who was claimed off waivers and is sporting a 3-10 record with an ERA above 6.30 (6.35 to be exact) it's hard to say you have a solid pitching staff with a straight face. And despite the record, when you're number 2 and ace of the future is sporting an ERA approaching 5 and 40 walks, it's not looking too great for the front end of your rotation. Now that's not to say that Joshy-poo has been bad, because he hasnt, but it is to say that he hasnt been as solid as you guys would like him to be. Now as for Lester, granted he has done a WONDERFUL job since his callup, I would bet you $20 that when Theo Epstein had to call him up he didnt do so with a smile on his face. Idoubt he wanted his highly touted pitching prspect up here so soon and under such circumstances. Now obviously it has worked out well for Theo and the Sox, but things could have taken a different route had they not gotten so lucky with how good Lester has been. So either way you put it, i'll gladly take Randy Johnson, Mike Mussina, Chien-Ming Wang, Jaret Wright, Sidney Ponson, Shawn Chacon, T.J. Beam, Mike Myers, Ron Villone, Scott Proctor, Kyle Farnsworth, and Mariano Rivera over Curt Schilling, Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Kason Gabbord, Manny Delcarmen, Craig Hansen, Jermaine Van Buren, Kyle Snyder, Rudy Seanez, Julian Tavarez, Mike Timlin, and Jonathon Papelbon.
Please, think twice before calling me out again.
Kris Wilson isn't even on the team anymore. But I will give you TJ Beam Kason Gabbard[/b] (NOT Wakefield). Granted, Jon Lester has been great, but he isnt even supposed to be up here in the bigs yet. Wang has been terrific and his 11 wins are looking pretty nice up there among the league leaders. I can't really make a solid arguement against your Chacon=Tavarez case just yet because we havent seen enough of Chacon in the pen yet. However, you cant get much worse than Julian Tavarez. Javier Lopez isnt on the team anymore, Jermaine Van Buren however, is still less than Mike Myers.
I betchya guys that Theo Epstein is finding it more urgent to get some pitching help than Brian Cashman is at this point. Now that's not to say that Cashman isnt urging to get some help because we obviously need it, but dont say that the Boston staff is in better shape than the Bombers' just yet.
