  1. Either way they are still better. Look at Miguel Tejada and Alex Rodriguez and the numbers they needed to put up in order to win an MVP at that position. Think about Nomar and the years he put up at SS and didn't win an MVP award. He was the batting champion twice and never won it. I can't put Derek Jeter's 2006 season in the same category at those guys and the years they were able to put together at SS. Add Soriano to the list as well and the 30-30 seasons he was able to have without winning an MVP award.
  2. I'm not saying its bad but I mean....David Ortiz OPS is 1.022
  3. No thats about right. His defense is no better than any other year so his defense should not win him the MVP. His batting average is up but still a career .317 hitter. He still walks and strikes out the same amount. His RBI are up but thats the nice thing of having Damon hitting in front of you. His HRs are down from past years but still decent for a middle infielder. Other than his batting average....nothing really jumps at you. SLU is below .500 but still pretty good. OBP is up but again thats the nice thing of having great protection in the lineup..... I'm sorry its just not so amazing that I would stamp an MVP on it. There are too many players more deserving. At this point I'm actually looking more at Justin Morneau or Johan Santana rather than Jeter or Ortiz. Where would the Minnesota Twins be without either of those guys?
  4. Instead of answering my question you danced around the subject and backfired a bunch of questions of your own. Was Derek Jeter's performance that amazing this year or is it based on the fact no other Yankee is worthy this season of an MVP. Someone from NY has to be mentioned in the MVP race or baseball just wouldn't make sense. David Ortiz was as much deserving of an MVP last season as Alex Rodriguez. Part of that makes me feel he should get the award this season after matching his stats from a year before. Does Ortiz lack in certain intangibles.....absolutly. His sole purpose is to be an offensive force and he does it better than anyone. Ask any pitcher in the league and I bet they tell you the last person they want to face with the game on the line is David Ortiz. They would rather allow Derek Jeter to play solid defense, sac bunt, and beat out a double play than have to face David Ortiz with the game on the line. All Cris Carter does is catch touchdowns.....that was just a foolish comment on your part.
  5. ....talksox.com??? A Red Sox talk forum.
  6. Daisuke Matsuzaka Curt Schilling Josh Beckett Tim Wakefield Kason Gabbard (Jon Lester) Daisuke Matsuzaka Jon Lester Clay Buchholz Michael Bowden Daniel Bard ......2009?
  7. This gets exhausting. Red Sox fans want David Ortiz to win and Yankee fans want Derek Jeter to win. ....the difference is the Red Sox have a good argument for Ortiz to win and the Yankees don't have one for Derek Jeter. So instead I hear more Yankee fans saying Travis Hafner, Jermaine Dye, etc should win the MVP. Whatever it takes to ruin the opposing competitors spirit. The second a Red Sox player opens his mouth...a Yankee fan over critiques, over analyzes, and simply uses it as a method to start a fight between rivals. Now thats classy....
  8. If David Ortiz was a NY Yankee and Derek Jeter was on the Boston Red Sox......there would be no conversation.....Ortiz would be the hands down MVP (team records aside). Just the advantage of being in NY. Seems like every year they have players mentioned in the MVP race. Baseball just gets old. At least the Pats will beat the Jets this weekend.
  9. Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell ...I think we got screwed. Now I know why Theo didn't wanna make the trade.
  10. I think Andruw Jones is a free agent after next season. That would be a great stop-gap. Red Sox might be able to come to a better agreement in the offseason like they did last year.
  11. Does Travis Hafner have more HRs or more RBI??? Oh wait he also hits with better players in front of him. I don't blame you for making the case for Hafner. Clearly you are just a douche bag.
  12. Right...you blame the pitching like everyone else. Last I checked David Ortiz is not a pitcher. He is the most dangerous hitter in baseball with the game on the line. ...I'm pretty much going to end the argument because dealing with Yankee fans when it comes to a Red Sox player winning anything is hopeless. There is no way I will ever convince you and no way you will ever convince me. Last year was a much closer race for MVP and the player fighting with Ortiz had comparable stats. This year nobody is that close yet you all continue to argue about it.
  13. He said if the Red Sox make the playoffs...David Ortiz deserves the MVP....if they don't make the playoffs....he won't win it.....so basically....because David Ortiz wasn't able to coach, pitch, and hit a HR everytime at the plate....its his fault the team couldn't make it and he is not the MVP.
  14. So you will blame David Ortiz when the Red Sox don't make the playoffs. Thats the most rediculous thing I've ever heard.
  15. I'm aware of the stat you s***. The fact still remains....you need a player to come through and win the game. Are you taking Derek Jeter, Travis Hafner, Vlad Guerrero, David Ortiz, A-Rod, Ichiro....whoever.....you are taking David Ortiz. Most Valuable Player. I'm a firm believer that a teams record has nothing to do with a player being named MVP. There are too many factors in baseball and a player can only take on so much. As a DH he has been a bigger difference maker than anyone in baseball. Thats great that the Yanks were able to pick up the slack and like you said...Damon, Jeter, Giambi....yeah they are all involved...great team effort you cant take that away from them. Deffinitly a team effort though....a team effort contributed by all those other players making millions and millions of dollars.
  16. Take him out of that lineup and you are looking at Konerko and Thome....thats a good 3-4 punch but Jermaine Dye is the reason the offense has taken another step this season. The pitching hasn't been there all year for that team and they had to rely on offense. He has been the leader of the offense and the difference maker. Without him I can't say they would be fighting for a wildcard spot. They would be the same team as last season without the same pitching.
  17. Who gives a s***. If you had to choose between David Ortiz or Travis Hafner to win the game for you...who do you take? If you say Travis Hafner you are simply saying it because you don't want a Red Sox player to win. I want to make an argument about "team must make playoffs to be MVP". Last season Alex Rodriguez won the award. This year he has done nothing but SUCK and they will still win the division and make the playoffs.....how valuable is he?? If Derek Jeter sucked all season then the Yankees would still make the playoffs. MVP stands for Most Valuable Player. If you take Jeter or A-Rod or Sheffield or Matsui off the Yankees...it makes no difference because there is 200 million dollars on the team. If you take David Ortiz off the team....just look what is happening. I will make the same case for Travis Hafner...if you took him off that team they have NO offense. Derek Jeter should not be mentioned in ANY MVP talk. Ichiro Suzuki has amassed enormous hit totals and insane BA numbers yet he has not won an MVP award. I guarantee if he was on the Yankees his name would be all over the place. The players who should be involved in MVP talks: 1. David Ortiz 2. Jermaine Dye 3. Travis Hafner ....in that order
  18. How could you possibly give it to Hafner over Ortiz?? Both are DH so you can't say his defense is better. David Ortiz has more HRs and more RBI. The Red Sox are a better team so you can't say the record plays a part. Face it...you just don't want to see a Red Sox player win the MVP.....just come out and say it.
  19. Get a pitcher....find the sleeper....the next Francisco Liriano who was traded for AJ Pierzynski
  20. This team probably won't win a single game without him so.....that sounds like a most valuable player to me. Besides who is running against him? Derek Jeter? Jermaine Dye? Statistically they aren't close to David Ortiz. Only person I can say is Travis Hafner but his team is even worse than the Red Sox.
  21. Thats a possibility. I can't stress enough the importance of adding an arm like Matsuzaka. The Red Sox need to get into the Japan market. Hideki Matsui, Ichiro Suzuki, and Tadahito Iguchi are very valuable pieces to there teams and the Red Sox need to find one. A pitcher would be of huge importance...especially with the talent of Matsuzaka. As far as catchers: Jonathan Egan seems to hit exceptionally well for a 19 year old. If memory serves this is his first season in the Red Sox organization because of legal troubles last year. By the time Jason Varitek's contract is up he may be ready for the majors. If not then there are a few others that could possibly contribute. Then again there is also free agency.
  22. I think this game was over by the first pitch.
