  1. I think Youkilis and Lugo are the key to this offense......if they could just start hitting and getting on base....the games will change and the runs will come....as long as the don't we will continue to suck on offense
  2. If Morgan mentions one more thing about "arm speed" I'm gonna lose it
  3. Red Sox fans are truely amazing. Everyone jumping off a bridge after game 1 of the season. Schilling sucks, Tek sucks, the bullpen sucks, Lugo strikes out, terrible on the bases, blah blah blah....friggin relax
  4. Kansas City Royals will win the World Series
  5. This sucks... I have a completely different view of the pitching staff now.... The Red Sox had the best starting rotation going into the season...now they are somewhere in the middle. ...but our bullpen has a closer. Not to mention this adds more injury risk to Jonathan Papelbon. Terrible move by the front office. I think we had the arms in the bullpen to get innings and hold plenty of leads. What kind of confidence does the bullpen have now???
  6. If the Red Sox coaching staff can teach him more consistency with his control...fantastic, but they can't. If it hasn't been done at this point...it probably won't
  7. For the most part I still consider them "unknowns" which is why I would like to see them. I'd like to see if one of them could suprise rather than give up resources and a spot on the roster for another reliever that is not going to post an ERA under 4
  8. I'd rather try Kason Gabbard, Manny Delcarmen, Devern Hansack, or Craig Hansen in our bullpen rather than Jorge Julio. Most of whom will start in AAA.
  9. I saw what I needed to see from Matsuzaka today. He is starting to use more pitches and that changeup is his best pitch. Clearly did not have the fastball today but thats the beauty of spring training and the fact its March 11th. I still don't think we have seen the splitter and thats a great out-pitch for him. Once that velocity is pumped up to 93-95mph consistantly...the rest of his pitches will do serious damage. Meanwhile, I question the batting order but thats nothing to get involved with until the season starts.
  10. Out of 30 starting shortstops you would have to put Derek Jeter in the top 10. Maybe its a poor group of shortstops but compared to the other players in the league he is pretty good. He makes the "over the shoulder" catch better than anyone. Alex Gonzalez, Orlando Cabrera, Jimmy Rollins, Michael Young, David Eckstein, and Rafael Furcal are all excellent but after that is gets tough. I would put Jeter somewhere in that category between Michael Young and David Eckstein.
  11. Vlad Guerrero has been a premier hitter for 9 years. He hits a .330 average about every season while hitting 30+ HRs every year. Not only that but he has been on Montreal and the Angels his whole career...not exactly strong offensive teams. You can certainly make a case for Travis Hafner....but Hafner>Guerrero is not a good one. Derek Jeter....strong defense, hits decent power for a middle infielder, steals bases, hits for average, and most important...wins games. He is the Tom Brady of baseball. Everyone hates him unless he is on your team. Not exactly flashy or does one thing great....but wins games at any cost.
  12. Pujols played 3rd base and was about as good as A-Rod. I'll give you the shortstop argument but since he went to NY...his defense is average. As for my top 5 power hitters....sure Travis Hafner is a great hitter but where would you put him? I only put 5 players on my list and you can make an argument for all of them. I don't know how you can say its defficient when Pujols, Ortiz, Berkman, Howard, and Guerrero are some of the premier hitters in the game. You can make the case for Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, Justin Morneau, Mark Teixeira....there are lots of good hitters....maybe next time I'll make a top 10 list.
  13. Impossible to answer (almost as tough as the best football player) Power Hitters 1. Albert Pujols 2. David Ortiz 3. Ryan Howard 4. Lance Berkman 5. Vladimir Guerrero Best Tools 1. Carlos Beltran 2. Carl Crawford 3. Jose Reyes 4. Derek Jeter 5. Ichiro Suzuki 6. Vernon Wells Then there are pitchers...but thats an easy answser.....Johan Santana
  14. I bet if you asked Manny Ramirez he would say he could do it. I like smart comments from fools...eerr?
  15. Sorry for not making myself clear...I didn't mean Jon Lester would close. If he has a good enough spring training he may retake his spot in the rotation and Jonathan Papelbon taking over the closer spot once more. One has to wonder how much better Papelbon would be in the rotation over a healthy Jon Lester. Maybe a couple more wins but for the most part I think they are comperable. Jon Lester was pretty solid until he started dealing with some injury issues toward the end of the season. Do I think he could use time in AAA? Absolutly....but again I'm saying "if" he has a very solid spring training...it should be considered.
  16. If Jon Lester has a great spring training...that will make the decision very difficult.
  17. Matsuzaka has the most talent and the most pitches so he has a good shot. Josh Beckett would probably be second in line with a top notch fastball. If he gets his curveball back to the way it was...he is one hell of a competitor. Jonathan Papelbon is also a hell of a competitor but probably needs a strong off-speed pitch to become a true caliber ace. I know he is working on a curveball but that doesn't mean its effective. If he can make it effective then he certainly could be an ace. However, my vote still goes to Curt Schilling. He had another solid season last year, one year removed from serious injury problems. Schilling is a incredible competitor and lives for the big stage. His velocity may have dropped but he still has more pitching intelligence than any of our 26 year old young studs. This is a tough question but I still believe the Red Sox ace....is the guy who is already an ace
  18. Ha....so we can agree that NJ is pretty much a toilet.
