  1. I'd like to see the Red Sox hold off on Daniel Bard until the final push (end August into September). That way teams won't have a read on him and he should, if all goes well, be on a streak and can ride it through to the majors. He has a completely different attitude than what Craig Hansen had. Hansen had the, deer in headlights, look on a regular basis and Bard has much more confidence and a cockiness that borders Josh Beckett. I wouldn't guarantee a trade since we may only count on Saito for this season alone. Injuries occur, players struggle, it will be an interesting season because the Red Sox will quickly pull the trigger if a player needs a trip to the DL.
  2. So the GMs in baseball know that Ortiz and Lowell were injured and there stocks are low so they will try to buy low...but the Red Sox agree with you that the players will bounce back so there stocks are higher than the injuries lead on, all the rival GMs know this as well. They won't tell the Red Sox GM that they know this because they won't want to lead onto the fact they know Ortiz and Lowell will bounce back. ....did I just regurgitate all that garbage you just wrote cause I want to make sure I follow your simple basic principles of the trade market and bargaining?
  3. Career .899 OPS....don't you love stats
  4. David Ortiz and Mike Lowell 10+million a year. Latest speculation has Adam Dunn's price at 4 years 52 million. About the same price if you were able to move one of them. Not to mention he is younger. You claim we can't get anything in return for Lowell or Ortiz yet you look to them to carry the offense?
  5. Crippled Mike Lowell's trade value as well....guess we have to hope they can return to form at age 34 and 35....
  6. Wrong, Adam Dunn is better at 1st base in this given moment. David Ortiz numbers continued to increase and peaked in 2006. His numbers have dropped since. He is also heading into his mid-30s and the injuries are showing up...carbon copy of a baseball player who hit his prime and is in decline (doesn't mean he can't still be effective)....but do you see Ortiz hitting 40+ homers again?
  7. Your kind of slow huh? The original article from FoxsSports specified the Red Sox may have interest in Adam Dunn to play 1st base in which case they would move Youkilis to 3rd and trade Mike Lowell. I'm saying why not consider Adam Dunn coming into Boston and replacing David Ortiz as the DH....don't let him play on the defensive side. David Ortiz would probably bring back more in a trade than Mike Lowell...hence possibly packaging David Ortiz for a proven catcher which I don't believe Mike Lowell could do....do you follow? ...end result the Red Sox will stick with what they have. Too many moving pieces in either scenario.
  8. Mike Lowell We don't ask Ortiz to play 1st and if we replaced him with Dunn why would we let him play 1st?
  9. Adam Dunn is younger and not in the same decline as David Ortiz....i don't necessarily believe in it (just posing the qustion). David Ortiz could possibly bring back more in a trade. Hard to say unless we had more information on the state of Ortiz's health.
  10. How about signing Adam Dunn as a DH and trading David Ortiz?...some package for a catcher.
  11. Weird, could have sworn I remember seeing 92-93 in the WBC...then again Daisuke was hitting 94-95 I recall....nevemind pass
  12. Yadel Marti defected from Cuba.....if the Yankees want him they will get him (they get the pick of anyone they want) but I'd love to see the Red Sox go after him...he has fantastic stuff. I remember watching him but I don't have a scouting report.
  13. I smell a possible trade brewing...Red Sox have a lot of pitchers (although some in ?) so I think this is leading toward a catcher trade
  14. Andy Pettitte is a year older than Derek Lowe and both have been inning eaters the past 4 seasons. Derek Lowe just rejected a 3 year 36 million offer and you guys feel Andy Pettitte rejecting 10 million for one season is unwarrented? Randy Johnson is 45 years old and he just got 8 million. Jamie Moyer is even older and he makes 6.5 million. How would we feel if Andy Pettitte had been playing for the Dodgers the past 4 seasons and put up Derek Lowe type ERAs because chances are he would have. Meanwhile I guarantee Derek Lowe in NY would have had a ERA above 4. Still think Andy Pettitte isn't worth say....14 million for season? Whats the difference between 10 million and 14 million anyways for the Yankees? They toss out 420+ million for 3 players and can't increase a one year offer for one of there most loyal players by say 6 million.... On that note I hope Pettitte does go to the Dodgers...he would put up great numbers on the West Coast with Joe Torre
  15. I'd say if the Red Sox are going to upgrade...look at the positions they need to upgrade. SS, CF, and C are lacking in the offensive category. Both Ellsbury and Lowrie have upside but it's up to the Red Sox front office to evaluate there true ceiling. If not: SS (Hanley Ramirez, Jose Reyes, JJ Hardy, Troy Tulowitzki, Yunel Escobar) CF (Grady Sizemore, Josh Hamilton, Carlos Beltran, Ichiro Suzuki) C (Brian McCann, Russell Martin, Joe Mauer, Victor Martinez, Salt, etc etc....we need something) With a loaded farm system and young players on the major league roster (plus a couple veterans that could be moved) the Red Sox have an opportunity to make something happen.
  16. If Martinez can return to form with the bat then I can easily live with any defensive issues. Not to mention he drastically helps the Red Sox in a key area they are seriously lacking. The Red Sox already have Kevin Youkilis at 1st with Jason Bay in LF. Why replace a proven player with an older more expensive Lance Berkman? Is the offensive increase between Berkman and Youkilis or Bay that significant it's worth giving up prospects and taking on more money?
  17. I still think Victor Martinez would be an excellent fit. If healthy he could be a huge boost to the offense and possibly the best offensive catcher in the AL East. That would give the Red Sox a big leg up on the competition.
  18. Even though the talks didn't get anywhere...I love seeing the Red Sox front office explore everything no matter how valuable a player is on his current team.
  19. Just was reading on SI that the Red Sox made a play for Hanley Ramirez. That would really change things up....what would they give up? Obviously Jed Lowrie...maybe Clay Buchholz and Daniel Bard? Hard to say because Ramirez is one of the best in the league....not to mention his big money doesn't kick in for a few more years.
  20. 1. Tim Lincecum 2. CC Sabathia 3. Matt Cain 4. Barry Zito 5. Noah Lowrey ...very nice...now they just need a couple decent bats.
