    The main key to Joba Chamberlain is his velocity. If that velocity drops in a game or decreases throughout the season then he won't be nearly as effective. Justin Verlander comes to mind. Joba has that same energy that Jonathan Papelbon carries and thats the ideal pitcher to have late in a game. This is as good a time as any for the Yankees to try him out as a starter though. The team is below .500 and the rotation sucks so what harm could it have? Unless Joba injures his arm after throwing 100 pitches of 98-100mph fastballs and snapping off 85-90mph sliders.

    Our bullpen can't keep up with the Orioles bullpen....supposedly that was our 1-2-3 hitters that just went down on 7 pitches

    Based on the Red Sox depth in the rotation and the amount of quality arms...I don't see the Red Sox abusing any of them. Clay Buchholz has a finger nail problem and he goes right on the DL. Dice K has a tired arm (which I promise he can still pitch if they asked him) is going to miss a start or two. Bartolo Colon was able to take off over a month before we decided to get him involved...any setbacks and they won't hestitate to give him a DL stint. Thats the beauty of depth...you don't need to push any of them.

    I think Melky Cabrera is the worst CF in the AL East. I'm taking Ellsbury, Wells, Upton, and Jones over him...might have to take "part-time" Coco Crisp over him as well. So Yankee officials say. He looks like a mediocre pitcher with average stuff to me. Nothing jumps out at you. Currently I can't call his fastball a "plus-plus" pitch when it sits around 93 mph with little movement. I like his curve but because he lacks that other stellar pitch he must get the curve over the plate. If he doesn't then batters remain honest and can zero in on the fastball. He can be an adequate pitcher but thats not ace material. You guys talk about his changeup but it doesn't look like much to me. Phil Hughes looks like a poor man's Josh Beckett.

    Great to see Papelbon mixing in a slider...if he can utilize 3-pitches then hitters will stay more honest and he'll have more success (like he can really get a lot better). Masterson looked great....our youngsters are better than anything the Yankees can produce.

    Daniel Bard is heading to Portland..... Good choice to keep him away from Lancaster. If he continues this crazy stretch I don't think it's out of the question he could contribute at the end of the season. I'm getting ahead of myself but I know it's been done before. Between Masterson, Bowden, Johnson, Richardson, and now Bard...Portland is absolutly stacked with excellent potential.

    This looks more like the Josh Beckett of 2006 than 2007 so far this season....with the team going through a slump you look to your ace to stop the bleeding...not keep it going

    I hope Craig Hansen becomes the next Scott Shields. Papelbon isn't losing the closer role as long as he's on the Red Sox.

    On the note of Julian Tavarez for those who make the point that he can make a "spot start"....I think there are 3-4 players in the minors we would look to first so what does that tell you about him??
