  1. What would Matt Holliday cost right now? Would a deal surrounding Michael Bowden and Josh Reddick (Holliday's eventual replacement) be able to persuade Colorado? It's crazy but if they could pull a deal now would they consider doing that and cutting Manny lose to another contender looking for a big bat such as the NY Mets who have always been interested in Manny, not to mention they could afford his options AND they lost Moises Alou. Thats as big a long shot as they get but when you piss off the owner....you just never know.
  2. I'd rather see the Red Sox persue Matt Holliday in the offseason than deal with Manny Ramirez.
  3. Julio Lugo may have seriously injured himself last night. Looks like we are going to get our wish an Jed Lowrie will be making his return. This team will have a very different look after the All Star break.... Ortiz will be returning, Lowrie will be playing SS, Buchholz will be in the rotation, Masterson will be in the bullpen. Speaking of...Masterson pitched his first inning of relief in AAA not allowing a hit or BB and getting 1 K.
  4. I don't think this guy falls into the potential high reward category....he's pretty much always been mediocre with a career best ERA of 4.32 back in 2001. To think he could best that would be a stretch.
  5. Although this deal is complete I wanted to mention the surfaced reports that the Red Sox were involved and the Brewers were asking a combination of players including Michael Bowden, Jed Lowrie, Lars Anderson, and Josh Reddick. I just think it's interesting to know we have the talent in the minors to add a Cy Young pitcher if desired. Also interesting to know what other teams think about our minor league system.
  6. I think you misinterpreted what I meant. I don't know the scouting report on Gallagher, Patterson or Donaldson so I don't know if they are worth a damn....not that I don't think they are bad players because I don't know. I missed the part where the Cubs also got Gaudin. If Harden doesn't work out at least Gaudin is a good pitcher and they wouldn't come out empty handed in the event Harden continues his injury woes.
  7. Michael Young is an excellent player and...like I said...if Michael Bowden and Jed Lowrie are too much...then thats not the trade. If it takes less then that and its lesser prospects that will never see the field for us....then you do it. You make it sound like Julio Lugo is almost as good as Michael Young.
  8. If Michael Bowden and Jed Lowrie are too much for Michael Young then we should be all over Texas. Jacoby Ellsbury Dustin Pedroia David Ortiz Manny Ramirez Mike Lowell JD Drew Kevin Youkilis Michael Young Jason Varitek .....big upgrade over Julio Lugo and Jason Varitek can sit in the 9 hole now.
  9. I'm not worried about what would happen to Lugo. If we had to eat the salary and release him or use him as a bench player.....whatever I'm cool with it as long as he's not starting on a consistent basis. I believe Michael Young is 32 years old and I think he could continue to be productive. Based on his age and the surrounding components in Texas (mostly young players) I don't know if it's crazy to think the Red Sox could make something happen. Honestly I don't think Texas would completeley dismiss the Red Sox if they approached them with Michael Bowden and Jed Lowrie....maybe they wouldn't.....I don't know but CC Sabathia was just traded for Matt LaPorta so I have no concept of actual value anymore.
  10. I don't know what his contract status is but what would it take for Michael Young in Texas?? With all the talent in the minors I think something could get done. Just throwing out some names but... Michael Bowden and Jed Lowrie for Michael Young?? Throw in Daniel Bard perhaps??
  11. How about Johjima?? His first two seasons were very good for a catcher and since he's struggled a bit this season perhaps he wouldn't come at an outrageous price. I don't know how good he is on the defensive side but he could take Kevin Cash's place and create a platoon between himself and Jason Varitek.
  12. Varitek ends the game AGAIN.....looooooong plane trip to NY
  13. Wow......just wow......WHAT THE f***?
  14. all right Captain Varitek....show us what you are made of
  15. I will completely agree with that. Something else that bugs me.....my brother in law is a salesman for WJRR in Orlando, FL so he works closely with all the management in the Rays organization when they do advertisements....he tells me a handful of people in the management are actual Rays fans....they are mostly Red Sox and Yankee fans. Thats bad...
  16. I hope the Yankees score 10000 runs today....bats will go cold tomorrow
  17. Give them credit....they have sucked FOREVER and they are actually putting a decent season together. Everyone needs to remember it's July....come talk to us in the fall. They are not going to just "walk away" with the division.
  18. Honestly they deserve the credit. They are playing great baseball....however, it's July 2nd. This stadium is acting like it's October and they are on a crazy high. Meanwhile our bullpen is going through some real issues (mid-season) and David Ortiz is out.....in Boston with a healthy rolling Red Sox team I think we are singing a different tune.
  19. game-set-match Jason Bartlett...wow
