  1. I might as well put in my two cents..... Bellhorn did well last year hitting from the #2 spot. His numbers will not be as good this year but that doesnt mean he isnt good. I like his easy attitude and makes some decent plays. He fits in well with the team and I will forever be in his debt with his HR in game 6 against the Yanks and his HR against the Cards in game 1. He is a good player to have as a #9 hitter. He makes a pitcher work when he gets to the end of the lineup and that is very important. That is why I like Olerud over Millar cause he is a smart hitter. Good contact and does not swing at stupid s***. At least when Bellhorn strikes out....most of the time the pitch is a strike anyways...just horrible eye-hand coordination but what can ya do. However....that side of the infield needs to get going cause we have the worst 2nd/1st combo in the AL apparently...statistically anyways.
  2. I think it really is a slap in the face to the opposing team. Whats wrong with just hitting a HR and being professional about it. Curtain calls are for great moments of recognition...a moment when a player does something heroic...you have to earn it. Robinson Cano, Gary Sheffield, Tino Martinez....these are not heroic moments they are simple plays throughout the game that every team makes on a consistant basis. I don't know I think its lame and shows a lack of class....kinda like the constant garbage that is thrown on Yankee field.
  3. It seems that EVERY HR the Yanks get they have a curtain call. Why is that???
  4. It seems that most players in our lineup have been in slumps so far. They are all coming at different times and once Renteria comes out of his....Manny jumps into one. Once Mueller starts hitting....Ortiz falls into a little slump. Eventually it will all come together. Pitching....we do have three young starters who are looking good. Forget that game Miller just pitched because he will get it figured out. So Clement, Arroyo, and Miller. Plus someday we will get our ace back. If we can just scrap for some wins and stay in the mix....by the later part of the season I think we can make a big run. Thats about all I've got
  5. Embree looked awesome today against the Yanks.....god help us
  6. and Embree keeps killing us
  7. is Clemens the guy to go after?? why not go after Roy Oswalt who I would rather have anyways.
  8. I'm not going to blame Wells. He had one bad inning and kept the sox in the game. Not bad for a #5 starter in my opinion. It was only a matter of time until Timlin gave up something, you can't go a season without giving up any runs. Embree is seriously just a waste, for the last several years I have watched him and always have to hold my breath. When all you have is a 95 mph fastball you are going to continue to get hit in the big league. This guy will never be a shut down reliever so why the hell dont we get someone else in there.
  9. Is anyone else sick and tired of this guy? He seriously gives me a rash.
  10. If the price is low I say why not. He is still pretty young and has the talent. Low cost and high risk is what the Sox like. I'm sure just having Varitek as your catcher would help. I just don't know where we would put him. I guess he is not really necessary but its a thought.
  11. So there is a rumor floating that Jennings may be available if he continues to struggle with Colorado. The Sox tried to deal for him a year ago and had no luck. I'm not sure what to think of this since we already have a crowded rotation when Schilling and Wells come back but he could be high reward. Maybe add him to the bullpen?? I don't know anyone have any thoughts on this?
  12. 1. Curt Schilling (ace) 2. Wade Miller (always has the chance for a win) 3. Matt Clement (up and down...so far up) 4. Bronson Arroyo (future ace?) 5. Tim Wakefield (battles every game...amazing) ....I never did completely understand the David Wells signing. I doubt he would take going to the bullpen very well after joining as the #2 pitcher and started openning day. I think he was just insurance with the injury to Miller and Schilling. Now what the hell do you do with him? Who would want to trade for him? The guy is over 40 but who knows....in Theo we trust
  13. Back to Foulke...I think there is a big cause for concern after that outing against Oakland....this is a problem
  14. I don't know if it would take that many young guys....Besides I think they would be interested in pitching...and my god...we have 6 starters....most of who I dont want to give up though.
  15. Well, NY got Pavano....I think it would be great if Boston got Burnett who is better. I always believed he had the best stuff out of Beckett, Willis, Pavano, and Penny. His record isnt great thus far but its not his fault. The guy throws nasty stuff and I RARELY see him get crushed. Every now and then Beckett falls apart. Burnett is good to go 6-9 innings every time and give up 1-2 earned runs. Wade Miller, AJ Burnett, Bronson Arroyo, Matt Clement...and that other guy named Curt Schilling.....good god....yay for NL pitching
  16. Great he hit a HR. I still think we should get Helton if at all possible.
  17. Wells, Miller, Arroyo, Wake, Clement, etc.....all are decent but none are ace caliber. In the end I would like to have Schilling #1, Miller #3, Clement #4. In the playoffs it would be best to have Wells come in for a late start where he could battle for a win. Wake has been most effective in the playoffs coming from the bullpen. We still need another ace to have that 1-2 punch in the playoffs. Can we get one this year?? Sheets signed a deal. Burnett is on a team looking for the division. Think Jake Peavy is available?? Clemens or Oswalt?? Schmidt?? I'm just throwing out names but pitching wins and would certainly put us over Baltimore and the Yanks who are seriously struggling in that area.
  18. The Sox should deffinitly go after Helton. Much more stable at 1B than Millar and certainly a more effective bat. Helton really needs this too because of how great his career has been and never winning. He would do well at Fenway. However, its not the top priority on our list. Pitching wins champhionships and we dont have much. Baltimore has a better bullpen plus Lopez and Cabrera can hold there own. The yanks have two good starters in Johnson and Pavano with an average bullpen. The best way to step ahead of those teams is to find a way to pitch. Hopefully Wade Miller comes through cause we need something. And for god sakes would someone tell me what the hell Embree is still doing on this team. That 95 mph straight as an arrow fastball gives me a rash.
  19. Its what happened in the all star game this last year. Ortiz hit a homer off Pavano. I'm saying Ortiz will feast on him along with the rest of the Sox players.
  20. Pavano will be seeing a lot of this.... AL vs. NL All Star Game 6th inning David Ortiz (1) 2 run shot to center off Pavano, Guerrero scored.
  21. I'm going to agree....I don't know what you are all trying to come up with. Johan Santana is an awesome pitcher. A lefty pitcher with a top fast ball. It's lights out when he pitches. I have seen enough of him to know he is going to be one of the best pitchers in baseball for years. However, if Sheets were to end up in Boston through some miracle he could have a better career with a much better baseball team.
  22. You shouldnt talk about pitching. You have two pitchers over 40 with health problems, a one-year-wonder with health problems in Wright, and a declining Mussina...watch the balls fly?? watch all your pitchers die....
  23. This is a rumor floating around in the talk sox section but it deffinitly belongs here. So the Diamondbacks are interested in Jay Payton while they are also trying to move Vazquez. Javy has said the Boss will pay if he traded him so that could be a great opportunity for him. Usually I hate getting players from the Yankees BUT...this one did not end pretty. I don't doubt Vazquez talent and would EASILY welcome it for a backup outfielder. Obviously I think more would have to be added but I think Vazquez could be a Yankee killer. Not to mention a rotation thats looks like: Schilling Wells Clement Vazquez Miller Arroyo Wakefield Halama That is some great depth not to mention there is plenty of room to make moves as the season goes on to fill holes. Vazquez has the motivation to prove the Yankees wrong and I'm sorry but....that seems like reason enough to persue a deal. Plus the Yanks are paying his salary HAHAHA.
  24. OK OK I JUST WANT TO SEE WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE: Curt Schilling David Wells Matt Clement Javier Vazquez Wade Miller Bronson Arroyo Tim Wakefield John Halama We would have time in the beginning of the year to see how this develops and LOTS of room to make trades as the season progresses. We can always find more backups as the season goes on. This would be incredible.
