  1. I agree with this. As someone who was rooting for the road team tonight, it was nice to have Sizemore coming up in front of the big hitters.
  2. This hasn't really been true under Girardi, aside from last year. In fact, there have been a couple years where they performed worse than their Pyth.
  3. Come on, man. You're a good poster, don't do this.
  4. In July, I agree with you. But at the 19 game mark, one or two lopsided scores can swing a team's run differential sharply in either direction. Not sure that a bad (or good) run differential at this point in the season says much about a team.
  5. I'm completely with you, except for Ellsbury. He may very well get injured at some point this season, but he's no bigger injury risk than your average player.
  6. Even if he fields it cleanly there's no chance he gets Flowers.
  7. Incredible how bad White Sox pitching has been tonight. Even more incredible that the Red Sox haven't been able to take advantage. Guessing it may change right now.
  8. I'm still here with you, but, admittedly, this is not the most thrilling game.
  9. You thought he was dominant? I mean, he was alright. He threw a ton of strikes and his fastball had a lot of arm side run. But his fastball velocity was down and his slider wasn't sharp. He wasn't bad, but I thought this start was definitely worse than the previous two. It helped to be facing the Cubs. Tanaka, on the other hand, was dominant.
  10. Yeah, the 2004 Red Sox were, without a doubt, the best team in baseball. I always told people that the Yankees going up 3-0 in that series was a bigger shock than the Red Sox winning the next 4. I just wouldn't sell the Cardinals short. No Carpenter was a big deal, but their offense had a ton of power, they ran the bases extremely well, and they played great defense. You don't win 105 games by accident.
  11. The 2013 Rays were not a lot better than the 2004 or 2007 Angels. They may not have even been better -- their Pythagorean W-L record was a few games worse than both of those Angels' teams. Also, the 2004 Cardinals were a great team, maybe the best NL team of the last decade. Four bad games doesn't change that.
  12. Love the one about the hissing. Thanks for the laughs.
  13. Strike zone was ridiculous those last couple innings.
  14. Yeah I though Buch looked pretty good. He's not going to be able to rush it up there like he used to, but as long as he spots his FB he should be fine. His biggest issue last night was that he wild in the strike zone with his FB, but I thought his CB and change were pretty good. He's way too talented not to figure it out.
  15. Yeah he did look good. The velocity dip wouldn't have interested me at all, if the same thing had happened in his first start. Just weird that it happened in one start but didn't in another.
  16. So am I, but that's not the point I'm making. For some reason he was able to sustain his velocity in Toronto, but he wasn't able to do it last night. I wonder why that is, and I wonder what we should expect going forward.
  17. I didn't like some of his comments either, but he's far from the first person to say something silly on a message board. Probably best to just take the high road, at least most of the time.
  18. Either way, who cares? What Jacko, or anyone else here, does professionally doesn't really matter to me. Let's just talk baseball.
  19. As good as Pineda was tonight, it a bit odd to see his velocity decrease as the game progressed. Hopefully that doesn't become a trend. It didn't happen in his first start against Toronto, so I'm curious to see what happens in his next start.
  20. Haven't read through the thread, so I don't know how y'all feel about Pineda. My take is that, clearly, he was using pine tar on the baseball. So he was breaking the rules. But I think there's a reason why Farrell never complained, and that reason is probably pretty obvious. Pineda's mistake was not being more for discreet.
  21. Nova's biggest issue, in my opinion, is the lack of a third pitch. He has completely abandoned the slider, which is fine ... that pitch caused a lot of issues for him, and I understand why he left it behind. But a decent changeup would really help against lefties.
  22. It's too bad Jeter won't push up his retirement a few months. His defense is at an all time worst, and that's really saying something.
  23. Sucks about Tex, although it looks like he avoided a major injury. Even if he has to go on the DL, it seems like it'll be a short stint. I'd imagine that the alignment is pretty simple -- Johnson at first and Solarte at third.
  24. Agreed on all counts, except for his CB. It was pretty good tonight, but it has a long way to go. And the only time he can really throw it is early in the count, when he feels the batter is sitting FB and he's trying to steal a strike. Same sort of CB that CC and Kuroda have. The pitch that might have some potential is his cutter. Would make a big difference if he can spot it consistently, like he did for his final strikeout tonight.
  25. Awesome thread title. Greatest show ever. And, if I'm not mistaken, they even shot a couple scenes at Camden Yards.
