  1. And Cervelli was terrible defensively last year, which is the backup catcher's primary responsibility. And Cervelli is hardly a good offensive player ... .315 wOBA last year driven by a .316 BABIP.
  2. Well this was inevitable. I'm curious to see what they can do on the road against Oakland's pitching this week.
  3. Already made this point, but just want to expand on it a little bit. The officials really killed the Knicks down the stretch. First they get Melo on the push off, after PP had his arm draped all over Melo's shoulder. Then KG sets an illegal screen (trips Douglas), which helps free up Allen for the game winner. http://yfrog.com/h0t0cvyj I don't want to sound like I'm blaming the entire game on the officials, because, at least to some extent, the Celtics executed better than the Knicks did down the stretch. But poor officiating on two of the final three possessions was one of the deciding factors. EDIT: And we're talking about a flat-out dirty play by KG. Blatantly trips Toney Douglas. No other reason to stick the leg out like that. But final possession for the home team in a NBA playoff game ... no whistle. http://www.celticstown.com/2011/04/17/video-ray-allen-game-winner-against-knicks/
  4. Yeah, that's completely unfair. But if you want to isolate one moment, possibly the biggest moment of the game, I think we're justified in taking umbrage with the offensive foul on Melo.
  5. I don't have the energy to get upset at the Yankees after what just happened with the Knicks lol, but holy s***, the Yankees have no idea what pitches to call in certain spots.
  6. The Celtics deserved that, but the offensive foul on Melo is Tim Donaghy bad. Just an absolutely horrendous call.
  7. So the O's have lost six straight and are now under .500. I guess some of that shine is starting to wear off. They flat out can't hit.
  8. Yeah apparently the A-Rod injury is no big deal, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got a day off tomorrow, so Joe can give him two straight days. As for Garcia, some hard hit balls found fielders, and he only missed three bats all game. But at the same time it was nice that he pounded the strike zone, which was the biggest difference between this game and last game.
  9. So lucky. Another terrible pitch.
  10. Like I said, his fastball sucks today, and has all season. Just can't believe Joe is so stubborn that he has no one up. Even if it's Robertson. EDIT: And that doesn't look like Soriano's fault, but the pitch, once again, was terrible. Slider middle middle. No Mo in the pen. The Soriano/Joe combo looking to let another game slip away.
  11. And of course, with the big bats coming up, Mo sits.
  12. And once again, Soriano doesn't have a good fastball. Velocity is there, but poor location.
  13. 1-2 change? Come on Joba.
  14. No idea. Didn't run hard out his last ground out, but at the same time, he never does. The field conditions aren't great, but I don't think they would take him out in a 3-0 game if he was completely healthy. I suspect his tweaked something.
  15. A-Rod out of the game. Not good.
  16. Joe won't, but he would be wise to have Robertson ready to come in at some point next inning. Third time through the order, and Freddy's good fortune is bound to run out at some point.
  17. Well so far I've been half right. No swings and misses, but thanks to some luck and well located pitches, Freddy has been good through the first four innings today.
  18. Disappointing there. Tex did he part. Really surprised A-Rod didn't get Swisher in.
  19. Nice play by A-Rod. I'm very interested in what the initial UZR stats will show, but so far A-Rod's range looks much better this year than it did last year.
