  1. Santana seems to be suffering from the Josh Beckett syndrome.
  2. Yeah, I noticed that also. Overall though, Kay is actually much more critical of the Yankees than the color commentators.
  3. Lol, not sure if anyone is watching on YES, but such a dumb and easy trivia question.
  4. Great change to get Abreu, but if he wants to pitch well deep into this game, he is going to need to be able to throw his fastball for strikes.
  5. Really nice to see A-Rod get a couple to go out of the ballpark. He's really been squaring up the ball lately, but he just hasn't been elevating it.
  6. What'd you know...another wasted opportunity.
  7. Edwin Jackson looking really good tonight.
  8. Jeeze, that is awful. I wonder what it's going to look like at the end of the night.
  9. I was there in 2002. It was very nice. Have they done more work on it since?
  10. I'm just curious. We were having a discussion about what teams do when they clinch playoff berths if they're still playing for the division title. There is only one team since baseball adopted the three division system that the Red Sox would have been in this position (to the best of my knowledge). I was wondering what they did, because some posters thought the Yankees will celebrate when they clinch.
  11. Well, if the quick bit of research I just did is correct, the Red Sox clinched a playoff berth in 2007 on 9/22 when the Tigers lost to the Royals. I think the Red Sox game that night had already been over for a little bit under an hour when the Tigers won. Not sure what they did though.
  12. That's after they just clinched a playoff spot?
  13. I'm curious though, what the Red Sox did in 2007. Anyone know?
  14. Because I am Joe Girardi. You've never seen him in the dugout with his blackberry out? Anyway, they never have in the past. Every single time they've been in this position, they've done exactly what I just said. Granted, Girardi wasn't the manager, but he's been part of this team in the past. I see no reason why things would change. Also, I believe it's common, at least with teams that have high expectations, not to celebrate in that scenario. When the Mets clinched the wild card in 2000, they didn't celebrate because they were still contending for the division. Once Atlanta clinched, they celebrated their successes. What'd the Red Sox do in 2007?
  15. They're not going to celebrate after they clinch a playoff berth. Maybe, instead of the traditional high five line after the game, they'll be a little bit more festive. However, there is no way they'll pop champagne after the game, or do any kind of real celebration in the clubhouse. I guarantee that.
  16. Joba's velocity is really so strange. For instance, if you look at arguably his best start last year 7/25 @ BOS, his average fastball was 95.51 MPH and he topped out at 99.6 MPH. He's nowhere close to that this year. I have absolutely no idea what to make of it. Jacko, are you trying to say that he is intentionally staying away from it? I don't understand why he would do that.
  17. I still think Joba is going to be a good starting pitcher. In terms of leeway, long term, I am. I'm not saying that they should return him to the bullpen. I like him as a starter down the road. In terms of his performance, I'm patient. However, every single time he pitches poorly, he always talks about how well he did this or how well he did that. Even Girardi made a mention of it last game.
  18. If anything, towards the latter part of Clemens career, he got worse as the game went on. Explain the logic behind that statement. Why would older pitchers struggle early in the game? If anything, wouldn't you think they would struggle late in the game, due to decreased stamina?
  19. Tying run up... EDIT: And that's the ball game. The fact that Pettitte looked good after giving up the two runs early is really a good sign though. They need him to be healthy and pitching well in the playoffs. They also got a huge break tonight in the standings.
  20. Also, HFA in a seven game series isn't important to me, but Gom, how do you feel about that? If the Angels sweep they would pull very close to the Yankees.
  21. I think they'll win the division also, but let me ask you a couple questions... Do you think there is a legitimate possibility that the Yankees get swept in LA? Do you think there is a legitimate possibility that the Red Sox win the next three in KC?
  22. At what point do the Yankees stop giving Brian Bruney opportunities?
