I realize this. But that doesn't defend Shaughnessy. He's claiming that the Red Sox and Yankees have two completely approaches down the stretch. It's absolutely false.

Dan Shaughnessy must be very confused right now. The Red Sox are only sitting one regular, while the Yankees are sitting two. I thought the managers had completely different philosophies Dan?!?!

Also, about the article, that is a pretty ridiculous statement about the 1978 team. When did he want Zimmer to rest his guys? When the team was behind for a large portion in September? It's unheard of to consistently rest players in July, even when you're leading the division.

What's funny is that he's claiming that Girardi is burning his players. It's pretty stupid of him to write then, when it's clear the only two games he has watched the Yankees play this month are the last two. Girardi has been sitting guys left and right the entire month, as if the Yankees have clinched. The lineup is he threw out there on Wednesday was absolutely ridiculous. It has pissed me off the way Girardi has managed, so it's actually really funny to hear Dan say those things. What's also kind of funny is that, if you look at the two lineups from yesterday, the Red Sox sat two regulars while the Yankees sat one. Not an enormous difference. EDIT: And Lowrie, but, offensively, he's not that much different than Gonzalez.

It's also worth noting that a lot of the hits Matsuzaka gave up were very soft.

The only other time CC faced the Sox this year at NYS he pitched just as good as today, if not better.

There might be something to starting Burnett in game two (which should be at home) and Pettitte in game three (which should be on the road). AJ Burnett: Home ERA - 3.65 Road ERA - 4.73 Andy Pettitte: Home ERA - 4.69 Road ERA - 3.59 After seeing those stats, I have no doubt that the Yankees' still plan to start Burnett in game two and Pettitte in game three. However, if it comes down to a game five, I would rather have Andy Pettitte pitching for the season than AJ Burnett.

Apparently there might be another reason for the move. Burnett's father is having heart surgery on Monday, so he's going to leave the team tomorrow. I'm still hoping that Pettitte gets the game two start.

That seems to be the idea. I think it tells you that the Yankees' are satisfied with Pettitte's health and, even though three of the last four starts from Burnett have been good, the Yankees aren't satisfied enough to trust him with throwing potentially two games in the series.

The Yankees, who originally had Burnett scheduled to pitch Monday, moved him back to Tuesday. That says a couple things to me. The first thing is that Pettitte will pitch Saturday and Burnett will pitch Sunday, instead of the other way around. The second thing is that Pettitte will probably start game two of the DS.

He'll probably go four at the most. If it's close after that they'll send Aceves out there, if not it'll be the September call-ups.

Very surprised the Yankees' are going with the full lineup. Definitely happy about it though.
