  1. As long as he doesn't get hurt, I hope you're right too.
  2. With Cone coming back from his aneurysm, I'd argue that Pettitte was the ace on the 1996 team.
  3. Obviously, in general, it's not heroic. But you have to look at the context.
  4. I'm not a Duke fan, but Scheyer is probably my favorite player in the country. Since his move to PG, he is just always in complete command of the floor. He dictates the pace of the game beautifully, and he never seems rushed, making good decision after good decision. He's hardly the best player in college basketball, but he has been a lot of fun to watch this year.
  5. Duke looked absolutely spectacular. Scheyer is just such a great floor general, and when Singler and Smith play like that, they're so tough to beat. On Monday I think we'll see a bit of a different approach from Duke, with more focus on the interior against Butler. With that being said, I've been dead wrong on Butler twice this tournament, but I'd be extremely surprised if they won. Duke is just clicking on all cylinders right now, to the point where they haven't been tested into the final minute of any game they've played in this tournament.
  6. Take notes Calipari. It almost always works, yet some coaches never do it.
  7. I really want to make a thread that has the same title as this one, minus "Spring Training" haha. Almost that time.
  8. I sense an ever-so-slight tinge of sarcasm.
  9. It really does look fantastic.
  10. Appreciate the compliment, and I think many people share your opinion. I actually remember talk on this forum (by ORS, I think) that someday players will be fitted with those lasers and detectors you mentioned in order to better evaluate defensive ability.
  11. He's borderline at best based on production, and, as Keeper said, his use of PEDs clinches his exclusion.
  12. For what it's worth, I don't really like this, and I didn't like it when the Yankees did it last year. I feel like it cheapens the actual opening day, which I'm sure the Twins are going to make an event out of.
  13. The title of the thread says it all. The game is on MLB Network.
  14. I really don't look at Nick Johnson that way. He's not someone that is recovering from a long term injury, nor is he suffering from any kind of lasting issue. Additionally most of his injuries have been freakish, and considering that he's not going to be seeing much (or any) time in the field, I expect a full season out of him (with the exceptions of minor injuries and rest, like most players). He could get hurt, without a doubt, but I don't see a reason to expect it. I expect to get met with disagreement, but I feel this is a logical stance.
  15. As for Cano in general, I've made no secret on this forum that I think he's going to be a special player. Aside from his obvious talent, someone on this board has/had a signature that was a quote from Theo, which was something along the lines of, "Not making judgements about how much players care because of what they look like". While I'm guessing that was aimed at Drew, I think the same can be said for Cano. Sure, he has looked lazy, or worse things, at times. But, I thought that he cut down on those things last year, and he very well might be primed to begin to fulfill his potential. I also agree with Jacko about Cano hitting fifth. I'm of the opinion that his RISP numbers from last year are merely a fluke, and I'm hoping for a huge year out of him in 2010.
  16. Jacko is hardly the only person not to trust defensive statistics. I like UZR/150, but as Jacko said, not as an end all be all. Using what I see, compared to what the numbers say, I feel like the numbers misrepresent how Cano played defensively last season. I'm not saying it was fantastic, as there were areas where he struggled, but I would probably put him around average. It's just an opinion, no doubt, but there are reasons why people don't throw themselves one hundred percent behind defensive statistics. As for a previous topic, Nick Johnson has a bone bruise, and said he's playing on Sunday. http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2010/04/02/injury-updates-take-two/
  17. http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2010/04/02/marte-feels-cranky-shoulder/ Apparently they don't expect it to be anything serious, but after a very quiet spring, it seems like there is at least one injury note per day as of late.
  18. Except that Burnett has talked many times about exactly what Jacko is saying. Sure, you don't have to believe him, but it certainly is logical and the results back it up.
  19. You continue to change your argument. The point we were debating was Burnett's health. As for how effective he will be, sure, no one is claiming he's going to have great years, but with his stuff an ERA around 4, or a little bit above it is certainly reasonable. As for Pettitte, you have absolutely no idea what kind of condition his elbow is in. All we know is that he has been very durable for the past five years, and that he is getting older. That's far from an automatic recipe for an injury plagued season.
  20. Dojji, you can make all the assumptions moving forward about Pettitte, but you questioned his health. That was the main point Jacko and I were responding to. As for Burnett, someone throwing a lot of pitches doesn't necessarily mean they are going to get injured. Granted, he has had problems in the past, but he has had two straight healthy years, and he has talked about learning to control himself better on the mound as the reason for his clean bill of health. Sure, he could get hurt, but I really do believe he has overcome his past issues.
