  1. It might not have been a sacrifice that cost the Yankees in 2004, but it was something that cost them in subsequent years.
  2. Actually, I'm past the point of using sarcasm. You might be right that baseball needs a salary cap, but your two main points are absolutely incorrect. There are plenty of players, over the past decade, that the Yankees have had varying degrees of interest in but didn't end up signing. This happened for one of two reasons (or a combination of both). Either that player's salary demands exceeded how much money the Yankees' could spend, or the Yankees felt that the player's salary demands were above how much he was worth. Additionally, while the Yankees have given out some huge contracts, they typically aren't credited with giving out the landmark contract to a position player, or the landmark contract to a pitcher (over the past decade). EDIT: The Yankees enjoy an advantage that no one else does, and it helps them win. There is no question about it, and it's something I readily acknowledge. However, lets not overstate this advantage to an infinite degree. It simply isn't factual.
  3. Yup, any player the Yankees have ever wanted (since they've had the highest payroll in the league), they just offered more money than anyone can afford, and got him. Right on SoxSport, really accurate.
  4. And there were plenty of borderline calls that he didn't get. It was nothing that Cervelli was doing differently, it was just a typically umped game.
  5. From what I hear Cervelli works very well with the pitchers. However, there was nothing that you could tell from actually watching the game that would make you think this. And Gom, he wasn't framing pitches and getting borderline strike calls for CC.
  6. According to Girardi, Shoppach would have been CC's last hitter no matter what. Apparently CC didn't know that when he took the mound in the 8th inning, but he was told after he came out. CC said he understood, but he would have tried to talk Joe out of it.
  7. Jacko, there wasn't a great look at what Cervelli was doing on the play at the plate. I don't really think it would have matter though, as I'm not sure if Granderson could have gotten to the plate by sliding.
  8. Fantastic all around game. Great pitching (obviously), and the bats were all very patience today. Almost every single hitter had a decent day. Still a bit disappointed about CC, but so be it. And only the Yankees could pitch a two hitter, and still play a three hour and twenty minute game. But guess what Joe West, I love it.
  9. Damn. Hell of a performance. Wasn't hit hard enough to hang up there for Brett.
  10. Now the question is, does the rest help or hurt CC.
  11. "The Bombers can single too." I'd rather listen to the Buck/McCarver tandem than anyone else, but it's funny when McCarver comes up with these silly little sayings.
  12. This is a good point. Once he gives up a hit (if he does), he'll immediately be pulled. They had Park up last inning in case that happened. I'm assuming it'll be Joba in the 8th, and Mo in the 9th.
  13. Horrible ball call there. Hopefully it doesn't cost CC. EDIT: Great play. Ball was hit off the end of the bat, allowing Tex enough time to get there. TB hasn't hard a particularly hard hit ball yet today.
  14. Nice play from Shoppach, saving a run. I'm impressed by Gardner so far, and I hope Girardi is impressed enough to play him against lefties.
  15. As Tim pointed out, that's a bit dirty from Bartlett right there. I'm sure you guys will remember Iwamura doing the same thing. Somehow I'm not surprised it's the Rays again.
  16. CC is sharp. Getting Ks on both his fastball and change, and, as Jacko said, working from ahead in the count.
  17. Would have liked to see a better angle on the check swing. I thought he went.
  18. Yeah that's a fair perspective, considering it's your nine hitter. Maybe have him steal, and then bunt him to third, but it might have been two strikes by that point. Anyway, nice to see Tex having a good day. We'll see if CC can keep putting up these zeroes.
  19. Right, that's true. It's just that, looking at the situation before the outcome, when you have a guy that has a really high success rate stealing bases, I'd rather not give up the out by bunting him to second.
  20. Jacko, I don't really agree about Tex. It got in on the trademark, and broke his bat. Anyway, I would have liked to see Gardner try to steal before the bunt, but as I'm typing this, it doesn't end up mattering.
  21. Nobody out, A-Rod on first, 3-1 count to Cano. A-Rod runs, Cano swings and misses, and A-Rod gets thrown out. Whether it was a hit and run or A-Rod was stealing on his own, it was a terrible decision.
  22. Should have been interference.
