  2. welcome to the site tech, and I can't imagine how hard it must be to watch the team you have been with for so many years to go on to win the world series for the first time in 86 years. But, I do think that nomah desreves a ring!
  3. this looks like a good movie..its based on the Nick Hornby novel and movie "Fever Pitch" (1997) starring Colin Firth. Film has been updated to center of a guy and his obsession with the Boston Red Sox. Ben meets Lindsey. They fall in love. All things are wonderful. But their future together is threatened once the baseball season comes around and Lindsey discovers something about Ben...his obsession with the Boston Red Sox. -One of the Red Sox games filmed is the 4 September 2004 game against the Texas Rangers (Red Sox lost 8-6) -On 27 October 2004, Game 4 of the 2004 World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox, the finale of this film was shot. After the last play of the game in the bottom of the ninth during the Red Sox celebration, stars Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon were filmed also celebrating together on the field. A brief shot of the filming could be seen live on the Fox broadcast of the World Series. Rewrites by the Farrelly brothers had to be done immediately following the World Series game 7 clincher of the ALCS against the New York Yankees to include the historic 2004 Boston Red Sox postseason. -Another game filmed for the movie was the 20 September 2004 game against the Baltimore Orioles, which Baltimore won 9-6. The shooting consisted of Drew running across the field to where Fallon was sitting, near the Red Sox dugout. This was filmed after the game, with about half the crowd staying after to be extras. ***it sounds like a chick flick so i guess i hafta go see it with my girlfriend that way I don't seem like a total homo
  4. looks like nomar has a change of heart Next in line is Nomar Garciaparra, who will receive his 2004 World Series ring with the Cubs this year according to the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. The world champion Red Sox decided to hand out 500 World Series rings. Garciaparra was traded by the Red Sox to the Cubs on July 31. "I thought I'd probably get one," Garciaparra said Friday. "Especially after the team voted me a [World Series] share, which was really nice." The Red Sox play the Cubs at Wrigley Field on June 10-12, but the presentation is likely to be done earlier. There are no set rules on who is entitled to get a World Series ring. "Kevin Millar [said] he was a rookie with the Marlins [in 1997] and played three games and got one," Garciaparra said. "Remember, it's a championship season, not a championship series." http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-050225cubsbits,1,2774653.story?coll=cs-home-headlines&ctrack=1&cset=true

  8. "If not for Brandon Lyon’s injury problems, Martinez would be a Pirates prospect right now and the Red Sox would have Mike Gonzalez, one of the game’s top young lefty relievers. However, the original Jeff Suppan trade consummated in July 2003 was undone because of Lyon’s elbow, sending Martinez and Gonzalez back to their original teams. Martinez shows a fair amount of potential, but the Red Sox were expecting more progress from him last season and will consider dealing him again since he’s out of options. He could settle in as a decent setup man with another team."- Rotoworld.com
  9. Nuggets have a good team, they have proven that the coach makes all the difference. They have a decent PG in miller, a rising star in carmelo, and a proven PF and defender in k-mart, add that with camby, nene (who many teams called about at the trading deadline, including the celtics), and boykins and they will make a serious run in the playoffs

  20. Press Release from Boston College: (AP) February 8, 2005 - Chestnut Hill, MA At a gala press conference in Chestnut Hill today, Boston College formally celebrated its absorption into the Atlantic Coast Conference as well as a resultant name change. BC was widely criticized for misleading its Big East cohorts, including a number of fellow Catholic schools by giving assurances of fidelity while secretly negotiating with the ACC. At today's press conference, however, BC switched focus from the low regard in which it is now held by northeasterners and Catholics and stressed its commonality with the fundamentalist Protestant and NASCAR base to which it aspires. Presiding over the event was University President and holder of the Bernard Law chair in Clerical Ethics, Rev William P. Leahy, S.J. In prepared remarks Leahy proclaimed "We are a great fit for the ACC and will find many schools with whom we have much in common. BC combines the academic distinction of Florida State, Clemson and North Carolina State, the athletic tradition of Wake Forest, the commitment to ethics and morality of Miami and the female pulchritude of Duke. We will be right at home." At the press conference, Leahy also announced another major change. Tired of spending years being confused with Boston University and being thought of as "just a college", BC used the occasion of its entry into the ACC to announce a name change. Said Leahy, "from this day forward, the ACC school formerly known as Boston College will be referred to as the University of Boston in Chestnut Hill." Speaking before a huge banner emblazoned with the new UBICH logo, Leahy said, "we feel this new name will more accurately capture our new direction for the new century." ACC sportswriters covering the event were all provided with bright yellow and maroon t-shirts proclaiming "The ACC's Got A New BICH!" In a nod to its past athletic pedigree, UBICH has announced the construction of a new Sports Heritage Hall. Said Leahy, "The goal is to show future athletes who want to be BICHes just what type of tradition they are going to have to live up to. Thirty-foot statues of Bill Romonowski, Mark Chmura and Chris Hovan will guard the entry. Gillette will also sponsor a "Close Shave" exhibition hall honoring BC's repeated involvement with the rich connection between sports and gambling. A display case entitled "Short and Swish" will highlight the contributions to sports journalism made by Alumni BICHes Mike Lupica and Bob Ryan, and includes all five copies sold of Lupica's thirty-two sports novels and service copies of restraining orders against Ryan on behalf of Mrs Jason Kidd as well as a local paperboy. An empty room will await trophies symbolizing national championships in football, mens or women's basketball, baseball, or mens or women's soccer. A gold-plated titanium vault will house every game ball evidencing a victory, first-down, change of possession or time-out charged against Notre Dame. ... BICH? dumbest thing I have heard in a loooooong time

  23. The Red Sox agreed to a minor league contract on Tuesday with first baseman Roberto Petagine, who played in Japan the last six seasons. Petagine, 33, won three Gold Gloves, two home run titles and one Central League MVP award while playing for the Yakult from 1999 to 2002 and Yomiuri the past two years. The Red Sox invited him to spring training. In parts of five major league seasons, he hit .225 with 10 homers and 43 RBI in 193 games for Houston, San Diego, the New York Mets and Cincinnati In Japan, he hit .317 with 223 homers and 594 RBI in 756 games. Petagine, 33, is a left-handed hitter and an excellent defensive first baseman who will try to take the place of Doug Mientkiewicz, recently traded to the Mets. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1986947 its a good move, looks like he can take the spot of mienkietwicz
