  1. A fiery guy sometimes doesn't get it right either. Look at Larry Bowa over in Philly..... What the team needs is someone who has heart, has stats, and knows when to use both. Since Joe Torre (in my mind, one of the best all-time managers) is taken, who's left? Current Managers (we'd have to finagle) Frank Robinson -- Rotting away in Montreal...but ALWAYS gets more out of his players than expected. Imagine what he could do with a quality team! Lou Piniella -- He was holding Seattle together. Is fiery enough to light a fire under this current team. Long Shots (but why not?) Dennis Eckersley -- He's got a real competitive spirit. Fiery attitude. Carlton Fisk -- Bleads Red Sox. Has a passion for Boston and a hatred of the Yankees.
  2. Sara, I've turned on Nomar AND Francona. His over-emphasis on statistics kills the decision-making process. Hell, a computer could pick a lineup the same way Francona does! This team lacks heart! As I've stated everywhere, the Nomar/Red Sox love affair is over. It was over in Spring Training. I'm not saying he delayed his return like others to spite the team, but it's painfully obvious his passion for the Red Sox just isn't there.
  3. Right on. Waiting for the three-run homer kills me sometimes. You don't have to look ANY further than last year to realize that manufacturing runs wins championships. Tampa Bay is proving now the return of speed to the top of the lineup with Crawford/Baldelli and their success. There has to be a good mixture. Damon ideally is probably more of a #2 hitter, the Sox need a good leadoff guy who can get on base and STEAL, STEAL, STEAL. The team has enough thunder with Manny, Ortiz,Trot Nixon. How about this deal: Nomar Garciaparra to Atlanta for Rafael Furcal Atlanta keeps saying they aren't giving up on this season. Getting Nomar would be a good way to prove they arent giving up. Nomar played at GA Tech in college, so he likes that area. Atlanta likes it because they aren't committed to Nomar after this season. Rafael Furcal stole a crap-load of bases in the minors before coming up to the major leagues. The Braves have WASTED his talent by waiting for Chipper, Andruw, etc to hit the 3-run HR. Another team without a lot of post-season success is stuck in the dust because they are unwiling to manufacture runs. The Sox solve the Nomar dilema, and Furcal in the large-market of Boston can get the recognition he deserves for being a good defensive SS with a great arm, plus he's not too proud to change positions if it's best for the team.
  4. He's signed for next year, I know that. That means he's not quite a "rental" player, and the if the Sox got him they wouldn't have to worry about him being a free agent with all the other big guys.
  5. Good to hear Kelly Shoppach's doing OK. How does he handle pitchers?
  6. What's the update on Ramirez? Is he still considered the "shortstop of the future?" or have the Sox given up on him?
  7. Well, anyone BUT millar. Remember in Spring Training when Kapler was playin third? Let's try that out. Can't be worse than it is now! 3B Gabe Kapler SS Pokey Reese 2B Mark Bellhorn Or Youk playin 3rd is fine too. As long as Nomar's sitting on the bench awaiting his trade to LA, NY, or whoevever Theo can find to take him! In all seriousness, Boston.com was reporting that Nomar is being shopped.
  8. Don't feel bad, I just put it on there yesterday. "Is that Bill Shakesphere over there?" Actually, that gives me a thought: Maybe Theo needs to hire Matt Foley...he could be in the Red Sox' visitor clubhouse (starting now) drinking coffee and eating ring dings...
  9. I pretty much could care less about the other sports besides baseball. About a decade ago, when the Bruins had Bourque, Neely, Sweeney, others, I followed the Bruins, but haven't since. I watched the Super Bowl last year, because the Pats were in it, but I can't claim I'm a fan at all (thats what a Yankee "fan" would do) SO... Red Sox ' ' ' Bruins ' ' ' Everything else
  10. This team needs some energy. Maybe Brandon Phillips (the Guardians gave up on him) for Millar, we'll pay his 04 salary. Phillips should have a chance to replace Nomar next year. SO: Send Nomar to LA for Perez,Mota Send Millar, cash to CLE for Phillips.
  11. I just hope Pokey's playing SS for tonight's game. It's pretty sad when I'd feel more comfortable with Crespo than Nomar!
  12. It's too late to feel regret for trying to WIN. John Henry needs to get off his tail and authorize Theo to bring in an IMPACT player fast. Let's face it....Henry can afford to do what Steinbrenner does...he just doesn't CHOOSE to. PLUS, with Nomar in New York next year and Lowe, Tek, Pedro gone...it will be easy to afford Randy.
  13. This team is spiraling downward, in fact in such poor shape, they'll be trailing the Devil Rays if something doesn't change soon. Nomar has officially become a problem. He wants out, and he's playing like it! He isn't hitting, he isn't catching the ball. Ship him and Millar to LA for pitching Theo, shake things up! It was pretty pathetic how the Yankees were stealing AT WILL against Lowe last night!
  14. Congratulations, Randy. Now, please.......Tell Colangelo (sp?) you wanna play for Boston!
  15. Maybe Nomar can play second? Cuz he's literally killing us at short
  16. That Nomar for Perez deal is looking better and better!
  17. Suspense is killing me! game starts in a little less than an hour.
  18. The key is Lowe outpitching Vazquez. I think both bullpens are about equal, and both bullpens are VERY good. I honestly think the team leading after 6 innings is going to win this game.
  19. Lets hope the team has the killer instinct tonight, because we all know the mfy will. The Sox need to sweep this series!
  20. Element, I can certainly understand your concern! (about the playoffs)
  21. Pedro, I have to admit that I made a mistake with my beginning post. I had a brief spell of dislexia, as I meant to say "more good than bad," but "more bad than good" came out. My mistake. I'll see if I can go back and fix it.
  22. Glavine would not be a "rent-a-player," he signed a 3-year deal 2 years ago, meaning he still has next year under contract, plus maybe an option year (not sure). Plus, he's a local boy, so think about how amazing it would be for him (and the team) if he won his 300th in a Red Sox uni! If I'm Theo, I go hard after Glavine (if the Mets fall out of it)
  23. It really is too bad that this guy isn't even on the All-star ballot! He's not only the team's MVP, he's gotta be in the running for league MVP! Torre better pick him to be a backup. He's much more deserving than the ballot winner....(gulp) Jason Giambi
  24. The other rumor for Glavine is that he might go to the Yankees. I can't imagine the Mets sending one of their better pitchers to a team they still hate. What would happen if Glavine helped the Yankees win the world series?!? or if Glavine was able to win # 300 in a Yankee uniform?!? The Mets would be ever so pissed.
  25. I think the pitching matchups stack up pretty well for the Red Sox Tuesday's game: Derek Lowe v Javier Vazquez Advantage: New York. Even if Lowe was throwing his best baseball I'd favor Vazquez here. Wednesday's game: Tim Wakefield v Jon Lieber Advantage: Draw. Just can't predict Wake at all, he's either really good or really bad. Let's all hope for really good! Thursday's game: Pedro Martinez vs Brad Hasley Advantage: Boston. Hasley's had one really good outing, one really bad outing. I'd say overall, Pedro's been more good than bad. A couple years ago, this would be NO QUESTION.....now there is a little doubt, but Pedro has the early edge. Overall, the Red Sox should be able to take 2 of these games. If they don't win 2 of 3, they'll be in big trouble (at least 6.5 out), obviously we'd all love a sweep.....we just don't EXPECT it. Let's hope Lowe finished out the month well, and the Sox can get some runs off of Vazquez tomorrow night.
