  1. Randy Johnson. I don't think there's much argument here....Randy's one of the top pitchers in the game today. Pitching behind Pedro and Curt....The Red Sox would be VERY dangerous throughout the season, and almost unstoppable in the postseason. (notice I say "almost" because the Cubs had awesome pitching last year and still lost, and Atlanta has good pitching every year and doesn't have a lot of postseason success) If I could get 1, Randy Johnson would be that one.
  2. I'm not crazy about the Kent idea. I think if the Sox want OFFENSE there are better choices (Delgado for one)....if they want defense...stick with McCarty. Use whatever trade resources they are willing to give up to get more arms. Play McCarty at first when defense is needed/wanted (late in games)
  3. By "Belly" do you mean Mark Bellhorn or Doug Mirabelli? I don't think playing Doug at 1st is a good idea, then who's your backup catcher if one of them gets hurt? It makes for shuffling positions. Mirabelli is awesome at what he does...backup catcher. Bellhorn, on the other hand.....I wouldn't mind seeing him play a little first base...only to make him that much more valuable to the team (in case someone does get hurt).
  4. That's true. No matter what the score is, as long as the Sox score more runs than Oakland, I'll be happy tonight. The Sox need to be A tough task, yes...but it HAS to be done if they expect to take the division. They can start by winning tonight. They'll be 6 games back.
  5. There's nobody debating that a rotation including Randy would be awesome. The question is: At what price? The Sox have already shown an unwillingness to give up the future for today....
  6. The stick at first base is not an issue. The only concern I have is with the GLOVE at first base.....But McCarty getting more playing time solves that issue for me...
  7. It's official, Detroit beat the Yankees 10-8 this afternoon. The Red Sox have to make up ground today by winning
  8. I would think if Houston plays better over the next couple weeks, they'll think they are in it, and keep Kent. If not, my guess would be prospects.
  9. Would Kent be a DEFENSIVE upgrade over Ortiz/Millar? I've never seen him play first base
  10. True, the Sox need pitching help most of all. But an upgrade over Millar at first certainly wouldn't be a BAD move (unless of course the Sox lose top prospects).
  11. At Pawtucket I assume....
  12. I also think that Pokey made a good catch the inning before Jeter did, but it wasn't as highly played because Jeter is well.....Jeter. I listen to the games on the radio (no TV) so I have to go on the emotion of the announcers. Is there a video on the web of Jeter's "amazing" catch?
  13. It's also important that the Sox play good defense.... I agree with you, ortiz....if he gets through the first 3...he is usually very good 4-7.
  14. I like it. Gives the team more late-game options if the players are more versatile. That would make Bellhorn capable of playing EVERY infield position!
  15. Petey has the pre-game advantage, but Redman is a quality pitcher who contributed to a World Series champion last year. The Red Sox CANNOT go into this game thinking this is an easy win. They need to be hungry, and get some good swings on Redman.
  16. Yankshater has a VERY good point. DLowe shouldn't be moved to the 'pen UNLESS there is a good replacement for him. There is a chance Pedro Astacio, or Kim may be good enough....
  17. Pitching is a problem. I think the Sox are waiting for DLowe to turn things around, and I'm just not sure he'll do it. I think after the latest blowup the team has finally lost a bit of patience. I had a lot of hope for Mendoza, but at this point don't have any expectations that we'll see him pitch again for Boston. I really hope Kim comes back, and comes back strong.
  18. Yes, the Sox are 7 games out in the AL East....but there's no reason to blow up a team 3 games out of a playoff spot is well.....Silly. The Red Sox are a playoff contender. That being said....I'm not against the idea of moving Derek Lowe
  19. Honestly, I don't know if Lowe's head could hande relief. Typically, you would put in your reliever in a crucial game situation, and he would need to get you through it. To me, it seems Lowe self-destructs when things start going badly. In relief, this is NOT a good thing. (That's my two cents)
  20. Solid win, solid performance. Let's hope it builds momentum
  21. YanksHater, Some people claim that Jeter makes less errors because he simply doesn't get to as many balls (thus, making them hits). Stats don't lie, and it seems that when Jeter gets to a ball, he rarely boots it. However, there's more to defense than just fielding percentage. Furcal in Atlanta gets to A LOT of balls that most shortstops don't even touch, and he gets a lot of his errors on the throws.....
  22. Actually, Adam Eaton's got a decent arm, is a lot younger (26) and cheaper ($1.75 mil) than Derek Lowe. This wouldn't be as bad as it looked. It's a moot point now, as it doesn't even seem like a possibility.
  23. Boston.com is where I read the Lowe comments. The rumor was that the Red Sox tried to trade Lowe straight up for Adam Eaton, and the Padres turned it down.
  24. Wake vs Zito doesn't really seem like the Sox have the edge here. Let's hope the Red Sox can get something going now that they're coming home
  25. I think we've been let down so many times....it's in our nature to panic. I have to admit, I am deeply concerned about this team. It seems like they're always ready to turn the corner (which gives us hope) but have yet to do so (which makes some panic)
