  1. Seriously, is the strike zone as big as one would guess from looking at the play-by-play?
  2. What on earth is up with 8 Ks looking? Is the strike zone enormously gigantic, or are the batters feeling depressed and lethargic, or what?
  3. From 5th grade on I was in Richmond VA, so I saw a lot of the Braves' talent pass through. And like BSN07 said, they were always on the tube. They're probably my number 2. I went to school in Dallas for several years, and I've seen more games in Arlington than anywhere else (still not that many). I guess I'd pull for the Rangers against most opponents. I hated the Mets for many many years after 1986. It's only recently that I've noticed that I don't despise them anymore. I'd still root against them in most any game, but I don't have the visceral loathing anymore.
  4. GameCast only shows one run scoring in the first, and only one Yankee player has a run to his credit, but the score is 2-0...? Can I get some cognitive assistance here?
  5. Our 1-4 hitters gave us absolutely nothing yesterday and we scored 5 runs to win the game. A deep lineup gives optimism, even if (to beat a dead horse to a pulp) we don't have the vintage Papi + Manny combo. Baldelli/Drew, Bay, Lowell is good enough to be some other team's 2-3-4 in the lineup. Not a world-beating 2-3-4, I grant you, but not terrible. As Kilo said, Penny is a cautious reason for optimism. We're not counting on him to give us anything, but if he can give something like 6 IP, 3 R every time, that's big.
  6. Pena's now on track for 700ish K's this season. Make it so!
  7. Beckett is on pace for like 350 K's this year!!!1! EDIT: So is Carlos Pena.
  8. Masterson is pretty much going to have to burn his whole 2008 salary buying presents for MDC, Bay, and Jed.
  9. Definitely. Is the ALDS MVP Bay or Lester? Bay pounded the crap out of the ball, but 14 IP 0 ER is.... um.... impressive.
  10. MDC just pulled Masterson's taters out of the fire in a big way. Well, half his taters anyway... the half that didn't get burned in the 8th.
  11. I can't even fathom what Tito is doing here. He's handng the game to LAA on a silver platter.
  12. Agreed that I would hate this guy if he were a Yankee. Like viscerally despise him. As it is... I just love the little guy. As an aside, I think the only way Pedroia could be 170 pounds of mouth is if he had 15 pounds of quarters in his pockets.
  13. Not only that, but they lost with a very favorable pitching matchup, whereas we lost (barely) with a not-so-favorable matchup. I bet we gained a game on the Yankees according to the KiloMetric today! And that's what counts... uh...
  14. I don't think so. We went from Buchholz throwing like crud in the 3rd to a half-decent start from him, and a couple of legitimate chances to win it. If you'd offered me that when Buchholz was beaning people with the bases loaded in the 3rd, I'd have taken it. And the 'pen continues to get better. They are not an obvious weakness right now the way they looked a month ago.
  15. Not bad, really. Weird, but not bad. EDIT: The Bay infield single, that is, not the loss.
  16. Here we go, new guy, here we go... clap clap...
  17. Youk, maybe? Hey, he's next if Papi doesn't GIDP. Could be nice. Probably not, but could be.
  18. Yeah, same players (more or less) definitely didn't score 12 runs two nights ago. That never happened.
  19. So you're saying that by the 9th, Meche will be getting called strikes on pitchouts.
  20. If GameCast is right about the location of all the pitches in this game, the ump is calling a singularly crappy game. Pitches down the gut called balls, pitches way the heck off the plate called strikes... Is that accurate?
  21. Back at the beginning of the year, I loved seeing this from our 1 and 2 hitters as I followed the game on GameCast: J Ellsbury walked J Ellsbury stole second D Pedroia singled to left, J Ellsbury scored Seemed like it happened with pretty good frequency. But I could really get used to this: D Pedroia singled to left K Youkilis homered to left, D Pedroia scored That is wholly adequate.
