  1. Gah! Just noticed how late it is here. I've got a big day tomorrow and I should have been in bed two hours ago. I'll leave this 7-run lead in your capable hands, folks.
  2. So is Ace stretched out enough to attempt another inning, or do we pat him (very carefully) on the back and thank him for a nice start?
  3. Someone needs to Photoshop Salty's hair onto Taylor Swift's face and then film what happens to BTR's head when he sees it.
  4. If they pitch around Salty to get to Iggy, he's gonna crush one over the Mass Pike. Or bloop one over the shortstop's head, whatever.
  5. This may be memory bias again, but (speaking more broadly than just Cliff Lee) I seem to remember us handling aces pretty well over the last few years. (Can't speak for the second half of last year because I was one of the pink hats who stopped paying attention right around when they lost their 115th game.) I'm way too lazy to look up the stats, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that we hit aces pretty well. I mean, no one hits aces really well or they wouldn't be aces, but I seem to recall us holding our own at least against the Verlander/Sabathia types. You may now destroy my feeble memory with actual stats if you are so inclined.
  6. Even better than I asked for!
  7. 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, a run, and an RBI will help anyone's reputation. Except maybe Ortiz's. That's an off-day for him.
  8. Yeah, I skimmed that discussion. Mostly a question of what we remember, I'd guess. I mean, when we get shut down for 8 innings by Biff McTurkle and his 82 mph fastball, it's seared (seared!) into our memories. Especially since Biff McTurkle is usually out of organized baseball and flipping burgers before the year is out.
  9. I'm astounded. Soft-tossing pitcher we've never seen before is normally a recipe for disaster. Aaaaand we have visual contact on the 7-run rule.
  10. Does any other park yield ground rule doubles at the same rate as Fenway?
  11. Jose Iglesias? He does have a higher BA...
  12. As long as he can remember the difference between finding the groove and putting it right down the groove.
  13. That's what I figured too. Since when is Michael Young a Phillie? I guess I haven't been keeping up with my non-Red-Sox baseball news.
  14. And now the "I'm too rattled to find the strike zone" pitcher.
  15. Holy cow! Did Aceves just bounce back from an adverse situation? Must be the first time this year. Maybe being demoted put the fear of God into him.
  16. I know it's just the first inning of the first game, so I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but I'm always a fan of abusing the opening game starting pitcher and wearing out the opposing team's bullpen. Let's see at least 5 IP from the Phils' BP tonight!
  17. Feels like a long time since we led early in a game. Been (successfully) playing a lot of catch-up. It's a nice feeling.
  18. Well, I requested a 1-2-3 9th, but I'll take that. Now I get to go to bed happy with a few meager percent remaining on my battery. 'Night, all.
  19. So what happened? I expected to hear everyone yelling NAVA!!! but instead it sounds like we lucked into one. Can anyone fill me in?
  20. We're entering the 10th hour of a major power cut here and my computer has 40 minutes of battery left. Whoever pitches the 9th better go 1-2-3 so I can follow the whole thing and go to bed happy.
  21. Like someone said earlier, Pedey at 0-2 has the pitcher right where he wants him.
  22. Does Carp have any singles this year?
  23. Imagine if it were 3-2 instead of 8-2. Groan...
