I see what you are saying about having Ortiz in a key spot, but that would mean that he would get up ONCE per game and that would most likely be against a lefty, which would obviously be and advantage to Houston/St.Louis.
They were cleaning the pool at HIS house, which leads me to believe that he was very close to the deceased. Even if it wasn't someone that you were close to you still feel sorrow for the victims and he was worried about how his wife was feeling as well.
