Leaving aside one tough inning, Wells pitched well in his last start, allowing nine hits and four runs in a no-decision against the Angels. As usual, his control has been impeccable. He's walked just four batters all season. Wells has pitched twice at Busch Stadium in his career, going 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA.
Carpenter is working on a stretch of five straight quality starts, during which he's 4-1 and has dropped his ERA more than 8/10 of a run. He's only surrendered two homers over his last six games. The big right-hander has thrived in night games (4-0, 1.85), which Wednesday's contest will be. It will be intriguing to see him against the Red Sox, after he was unable to pitch in last year's World Series.
