1. No, the lack of talent on the team was the downfall the first time, the second one was due to the injury bug that hit the entire team. I don't give a s*** if Jesus is the catcher, he's not going to turn Kyle Snyder into a glass of wine.
2. Yeah, I'm getting nervous about Lowell. I think his .200 batting average is a foreshadow of things to come. He struggled badly during the second half, and I think that's only going to continue. Vartiek is hitting .080. I didn't know he was a Kevin Cash duplicate.
3. It's not his arm I'm taking issues with, it's his game calling skills. He has a fairly strong arm, but I don't get this praise he gets for handling pitchers.
4. You jump to conclusions far too quickly.
5. If Tim Raines wants to snort coke after a game, that's his business. If Pete Rose wants to throw a game in order to line his pockets, that's the business of Major League Baseball. Luckily for them, they didn't have to. Maybe if they had lived in the 2000's, you wouldn't have seen Ty Cobb drop kick a guy in a wheelchair. Show me a guy who has been banned from baseball for being a drug addict. I'll show you twenty who have been banned for being associating with gamblers. This rule wasn't invented yesterday; it's been around almost as long as the game itself. Rose knew that he could be banned from baseball if he placed a bet from baseball. He did it anyway, and he's getting what he deserved. Though, if MLB wanted to induct him into the Hall of Fame, and on his plaque it said, "Permanently ineligible for gambling on baseball," that would be fine with me.
6. How long have you been in the United States?
7. Actually, that's Manny DOESN'T agree with me. Is English your first language?
8. Unlike Lidge, Julio won't require an arm and a leg. I'm not demanding that Julio be the closer, I believe the Red Sox should be looking to add quality relievers to fill out their thin bullpen. Julio would look pretty good pitching in the 7th or 8th. If he needs to fill in at closer, I think he could do it, but apparently you all saw a pitcher fall apart in Baltimore, and that's the guy he really is.
9. And like most relievers, Julio does have a bad outing or two. His strikeout numbers would say otherwise. Arizona was in a playoff chase for the majority of the year, and he pitched pretty good. He's shown the ability to close for a team in the AL East already. 2002 Baltimore Orioles 5 6 1.99 67 0 0 0 25 31 68.0 55 22 15 5 2 27 55 2003 Baltimore Orioles 0 7 4.38 64 0 0 0 36 44 61.2 60 36 30 10 2 34 52 2004 Baltimore Orioles 2 5 4.57 65 0 0 0 22 26 69.0 59 35 35 11 3 39 70 He had a bad year. Everyone then used that to gouge the ability of Jorge Julio. Well, you did at least. 2005 Baltimore Orioles 3 5 5.90 67 0 0 0 0 2 71.2 76 50 47 14 2 24 58 Look at the strikeouts in this year. (Innings underlined, K's bolded) 2006 Arizona Diamondbacks .190 189 778 17.42 1 32 2.20 5.04 11.08 6.25 2006 New York Mets .247 96 438 20.53 0 12 3.30 4.22 13.92 8.86 Look at the levels in this year. If he's fanning batters at this rate, it doesn't matter what division he's in.
10. That would be 84% save percentage. Jorge Julio's career save percentage is a notch under 80%. Why again, do you not want Julio?
11. No, he chokes when he cannot throw strikes. When he can spot his pitches, he's a shut down reliever. Again, your perception of his days as a pitcher in Baltimore are clouding your judgement to what pitcher Julio is now.
12. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is with great honor that I introduce you to his grace, BillMueller11.
13. Why? None of those pitchers could even dream of posting Julio's numbers last year.
14. Being a coke addict does not undermine the integrity of the game. Betting on your baseball team while sitting in the dugout, does. Rose didn't have to place a wager on the Reds, he could have placed it on the Texas Longhorns. If Rose is as hooked on gambling as you say he is, would you really put it by him to throw a game to win a bet?
15. Considering he gambled while managing the Reds, I would believe that is "on the field." MLB Rule 21 Rose knew the risks, he took them, he got caught, and he got what he deserved.
16. Your perception is a bit off. Julio isn't the same pitcher he was in Baltimore. For someone who has no talent, his ERA is only .12 higher than Slocumb's, and Julio's strikeout numbers are higher. Also, Julio is in his late 20's, and he's getting better. He'd be solid pickup for the Red Sox.
17. Didn't get a laugh the first time, did you expect it to get one this time. Oh, sorry. That's my tourettes. I better take my pills.
18. Yeah, you're right. In the best Lincoln tradition, I'm going to go crack open a cold one with my massive array of five year old friends.
19. I also have claimed to be 11, 43, 30, etc... I got a question, why don't you start acting your age and quit asking teenagers if they want to meet you at Fenway? You know what I'm talking about, Fred.
20. ------------ The Punchline ------------- Your Head
21. Using broad generalizations to score points + thinking that saying, "I'm not trying...." lessens the effect + missing the point = an idiot.
