  1. Those were also in his prime years of his career. Oswalt's next four years will happen when he exiting his peak years. Another concern for Oswalt. He's been pushed pretty hard with the Astros, has had some shoulder concerns, and isn't a very big guy. You add all of those three together, and you got a recipe for an early decline pitcher. So, that's going to help Oswalt?
  2. Hunter's K/9 rate was 6.8 in his early years, he was never a power pitcher. You still totally forget to include his absolutely dreadful last four years of his career. Oh, his ages in the seasons you include were: 27, 28, and 29. Try again. His best year was in 1968, when he fanned over a batter an inning. Both of these pitcher both pitched in a pro-pitching era, anyway. About a batter per inning, but Halladay wasn't the strikeout pitcher that Oswalt was. K/9 rates 2001 - 9.15 2002 - 8.03 2003 - 7.63 2004 - 7.82 2005 - 6.85 2006 - 6.77 2007 - 6.17 Seven years.
  3. K/9 rates 2001 - 9.15 2002 - 8.03 2003 - 7.63 2004 - 7.82 2005 - 6.85 2006 - 6.77 2007 - 6.17 Seven years.
  4. Give me the names of pitchers who suffer this big of a decline in K/9 rates, a big spike in WHIP, and maintained their ERA's.
  5. Why is he screwed? Dogfighting isn't a federal crime. They could barely find enough evidence to link Vick to attending a dogfight at the house. What evidence do they have to prove that Vick was a big part of "Bad Ass Kennelz?" (or whatever the f*** it is) It's going to be awfully hard to get someone on a conspiracy charge.
  6. Why is the federal government getting involved in this?
  7. wat y??????????????? he handels teh bat vry good n he is a god bnter n he can mov teh runer from first two second wen he bunts n those guys shuld be bating second o wait hes a catcher tehn he shuld def be bating 8th. he makes good contact n he can bunt ppl ova 4 the pitcher

  9. ya but hes a vetran catsure no tem wins wit yungins
  10. That's true, but he's always had an issue with free passes.
  11. Consider that the Astros will probably want Jacoby Ellsbury for Brad Lidge. None of the relievers on that list are great, but if a great one gets traded this deadline, you can expect a great prospect to go the other way. I think Dotel was involved in a trade in 2004, that sent Mark Teahen to KC.
  12. Isn't the objective to try to improve?
  13. Oh, you're talking about Lidge. I'm talking about Oswalt.
  14. Roy Oswalt (First seven years) IP - 1342 WHIP - 1.20 ERA+ - 139 K/9 - 7.48 Dwight Gooden (First seven) IP - 1526 WHIP - 1.13 ERA+ - 131 K/9 - 8.20 Dwight Gooden (Second seven) IP - 922 WHIP - 1.35 ERA+ - 99 K/9 - 6.6 I'll look into it more, but pitchers like Oswalt, don't tend to age well.
  15. ? http://www.baseball-reference.com/o/oswalro01.shtml WHIP - 1.41
  16. That logic works for pitchers who continued to be power pitchers as they got older with age, or were always finesse pitchers. It doesn't work with pitchers who went from one end of the spectrum to another. Can you rattle off a few pitchers that went from 9+ K/9 rates to 6+ K/9 rates, and got better with age?
  17. No? K/9 rates 2001 - 9.15 2002 - 8.03 2003 - 7.63 2004 - 7.82 2005 - 6.85 2006 - 6.77 2007 - 6.17 I'm not going to rule out that maybe Oswalt is packing it in, but I'd rather not take the risk of seeing him continue his downward trend in a Red Sox uniform.
  18. Shouldn't be affecting his strikeouts and walks that badly. He's also been able to dominate in that bandbox for the last five years, and Minute Maid didn't shrink over the offseason. Besides, if you look at Minute Maid's park effects in 2007, it's been very pro-pitcher in 2007. Runs HR H 2B 3B BB (26th in MLB) 0.880 0.981 0.999 0.932 0.905 0.951 I think that he's been a horse for so long, that the overuse is starting to get to him. He's not a big guy, either. Moving to the AL, and to a better hitter's park, isn't going to help Oswalt.
