  1. I've never seen Pettitte in the soft-tossing, crafty lefty mold. That's what he'd be.
  2. 1 year, 10 million is fair. If the 3 for 36 exists, he should take it.
  3. Hit him with the shoulder, not the helmet. No penalty for a good hit.
  4. Because there is a salary cap in hockey and the Rangers have a lot of talent to retain.
  5. After years of not having 'total control' there was enough damage done to the minor league system to eventually cause repercussions on the big league team. Stick Michael rebuilt the Yankees after the 80s, when did they see success? This isn't an instant thing. This is what, year three of Cashman actually being in charge? You've got to have patience with it. They have arms in the minors that are going to be useful either on the staff, or in trades. You have guys like Coke and Joba who have shown they have tons of major league potential, and players like Melancon and Jackson who are about ready to make the jump. They've scouted well internationally, which has resulted in a few pretty good players making the team. I don't like mediocrity, which is what the team has been since '02. They started doing things differently in '06, and I feel we're close to seeing the fruits of that labor in the next two seasons.
  6. He left NY because Sather didn't offer as much money as the Stars did. They made him a pretty significant offer, and he turned it down. His antics had a minimal impact on his staying with the team.
  7. If you find me the guy who never makes mistakes, I'll make him king of the world. Who knows, maybe not offering arbitration is the right move. This knee jerk reaction to everything is retarded. All this looks like on you is a vendetta against Cash, as you jump on him at every single turn. I happen to like the direction the franchise has taken, and I think it will set them up for a lot of success in the next decade.
  8. I'm a staunch Cashman supporter, but this I disagree with. I'm not saying run him out of town, he's a moron, blah blah blah. But I really don't agree with not offering arbitration. I think the biggest reflection is on the economy. They had been expecting to make a lot of money next season, and they may be tuning down their projections based upon what's going on.
  9. Steve Avery was a pitcher for the Braves in the '90s. Sean Avery is a smartass hockey player who used to bang Elisha Cuthbert. I like Avery, but he f***ed up by leaving NY for more money. He had an understanding in the locker room with the Rangers, but in Dallas they're already sick of his s***. They'll be looking to unload him soon, Modano wants nothing to do with him.
  10. So what is he? Is he Ty Conklin, Patrick Lalime, or is he "anything but a 34 year old journeyman"? I don't watch the Bruins. My guess is that he is a mediocre goaltender who is playing well as a result of his defense.
  11. Yes, all of a sudden he's better than the '98-'99 Dominik Hasek who posted an NHL record .937 save percentage. A 34 year old journeyman goaltender is now having the most dominant season in history because he's so damn good with his mediocre defense. Maybe his numbers are so good because the defense has made his life a little easier.
  12. What I'm saying is that because the defenses sucked you shouldn't even be asking the question as to whether he's better than someone who is perhaps the best quarterback ever. Cassel racked up his yards on the Jets when they were playing a prevent defense. He racked up his yards against a terrible Miami secondary. Oh, and he was throwing to Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Brady was a great QB before they got those guys. He had a legendary season with them. Cassel is having an up and down year with his great receivers, and has no significant wins on the schedule. This is comparing apples to a bucket of s***. You think Brady looked bad in the Super Bowl? I'd love to see what the Giants would have done to Cassel. He legitimately would have s*** his pants. Why is this even a discussion?
  13. If you've watched the team the last two years, you would have a way of knowing. You'd be able to compare how difficult it is for the opposition to get scoring chances versus last season. You know what's a more telling stat? The defense allowing .4 fewer goals per game. Minnesota has by far the best defense in hockey and rank right in the middle in shots allowed per game, 14th in the league. I'm not going to say their defense has regressed from last year. 14. +/- is a flawed and essentially useless as a stat to judge a player. Good barometer for how good a team is, but it means next to nothing about a player. Marek Malik had outstanding +/- numbers, and he's one of the worst defensemen I've ever seen. But he played on a unit of 5 with Jaromir Jagr, and his numbers were great.
  15. Shots are a poor way of judging how well a defense is playing. Teams can take 40 shots a game, but if they're from the sideboards or from bad angles, they're no threat. The defense is doing its job of limiting scoring opportunities. I'm not saying this is what's happening in Boston, I haven't watched them. But don't credit the goalies for making easy saves just because there are a lot of them.
  16. So he threw for yards while his team was losing big and in a shootout game. Wow, isn't that amazing? You know what Tom Brady did? Set the record for most touchdown passes in a season and won 18 games in a row.
  17. I... what?
  18. Heroic? Did he save a baby from a burning building. Let's step off his johnson for a minute, and call it what it was- he sucked this year. I voiced concerns earlier about Sabathia's postseason numbers, but like A-Rod, you need regular season success to get there. If it means 215 innings and 20 wins, I'll take my chances with him in the playoffs.
  19. I'm amazed at how good Savard turned out to be. He was a lazy malcontent on the Rangers after we drafted him, and then blossomed when we got rid of him. Win some, lose some.
  20. With his numbers in this era, he's a Hall of Famer.
  21. If Sabathia isn't going to sign, that isn't Cashman's fault. Regardless, he's going to sign. The MLBPA won't let him turn down that kind of money.
  22. They haven't played defense since Van Gundy was there. The difference is they have an offensive system that takes advantage of their talent. They're not going to be a good team, but they'll be average, which is way better than I'm used to watching. Like say, win the NBA title? Shut the f*** up Richardson. You've lost 7 straight times and they're the champs. Not the time to shoot your mouth off. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=281118002

    NL MVP

I'm surprised they got this one right. Had all the makings a of "carried his team to the division title" vs. "penalized for bad pitching" farce.
  24. Tex is worth that kind of money. He's a gold glove, switch hitting first baseman with power entering his prime. He is a core, building block type player. But I agree, I think we are hamstrung by Jeter and Posada, and won't be able to invest long term in a first baseman like Tex. Which is a shame. Dude can play, and I think we're going to regret not getting him, just like Beltran.
