  1. Exactly. Why not an 100 win season? Is there any evidence strongly suggesting the Sox can't win 100 games? The only thing I can think of is that the division is so tough that they all beat up on each other.
  2. And of course the guys over at ESPN know it's the year and they need this coverage the Sox first step to glory.
  3. Hey kenmoresq!
  4. Today is the day. The day where Boone's HR is put to rest and we can stop the speculation and predictions and get down to business. Forecasts call for cold, rainy and possibly snowy weather in Baltimore, but it has cleared up a bit. It'll be Pedro on the hill for the Sox and Sidney Ponson for the Orioles. Start time 8:05 on ESPN2. Projected Sox Lineup: CF Johnny Damon 3B Bill Mueller LF Manny Ramirez DH David Ortiz 1B Kevin Millar C Jason Varitek RF Gabe Kapler 2B Mark Bellhorn SS Pokey Reese Not exactly the lineup I would've liked to see on Opening Day, but if you can't get pumped for this than you can't get pumped for anything. Are you ready?
  5. Yeah that was terrible. I was in an airport on my way to Albany, NY (don't ask), and they had those TVs in the terminal and they had on CNN and they said before going too commercial that they had news that baseball fans will somber over or something and I though they were talking about the could've been strike that was swirling in 2001. Then they came back and showed Joe Girardi and Wrigley crying and saying into the mic that there was a death in the Cardinals' family and it was Daryl Kile. My heart kind of stopped. It was scary.
  6. My first Sox game was right after the ASG in '99. It was an interleague matchup between the Red Sox and Phillies. Brian Rose started for the Sox. I don't remember who won or lost, I just remember both teams started with a leadoff homerun (Glanville for the Phils and Awful-man for the Sox). I was pretty much in awe.
  7. Being that I have been a fan since '98 because I'm 13, I'd have to say Trot Nixon has been and still is my favorite player. I see him kind of like me because he's a "dirtdog" (hence the username) and isn't afraid to get dirty like me. And not to mention he's very exciting and very clutch.
  8. Thanks for the heads up, man. I was able to catch the bottom of the ninth for game 5 of the ALDS and if I wasn't pumped before (which I certainly was) I definitely am now. Now I gotta watch my Cowboy Up DVD.
  9. The only problem with that is Kapler still isn't too experienced over at 3B, which is one the toughest position to play besides catcher. That also puts Mueller in a position where he hasn't had a lot of playing time. And of course your taking away from Bellhorn, whom you've never seen in a game that matters. Foulke's been struggling so do we automatically use him as a little used long reliever? No we have to see him in a real game before we poo poo them.
  10. I can't remember anything scary happening at a game I went to, but out the games I watched on Tv I can think of the Florie incident, Damon colliding with Jackson, Cubbage collapsing, and the Clemens-Piazza incident.
  11. I will be wearing my Pedro jersey and counting down the hours tomorrow. The start of Red Sox Baseball 2004. It's a beautiful thing.
  12. Well that would mean I do too. first kicked off the island jk man. Welcome aboard.
  13. I'll add who I think will be the award winners. AL MVP- Vladimir Guerrero NL MVP- Albert Pujols AL Cy Young- Barry Zito NL Cy Young- Mark Prior AL ROY- Joe Mauer NL ROY- Edwin Jackson AL MOY- Terry Francona NL MOY- Bruce Bochy AL Rolaids Relief- Mariano Rivera Nl Rolaids Relief- Eric Gagne AL All Star Starters P Curt Schilling (Barry Zito) C Jorge Posada (Pudge Rodriguez) 1B Carlos Delgado (Jason Giambi) 2B Bret Boone (Alfonso Soriano) 3B Alex Rodriguez (Eric Chavez) SS Nomar Garciaparra (Derek Jeter) LF Manny Ramirez (Magglio Ordonez) CF Carlos Beltran (Vernon Wells) RF Ichiro (Gary Sheffield) NL All Star Starters P Mark Prior (Randy Johnson) C Jason Kendall (Mike Lieberthal) 1B Albert Pujols (Todd Helton) 2B Jose Vidro (Jeff Kent) 3B Scott Rolen (Mike Lowell) SS Edgar Renteria (Rafael Furcal) LF Barry Bonds (Chipper Jones) CF Mike Cameron (Jim Edmonds) RF Sammy Sosa (Miguel Cabrera)
  14. Oh no doubt about it. 1-25 I think the Red Sox have a better team than the MFY. It's not a guarentee for either team of course which is why this rivalry should be at its peak this year.
  15. Quite frankly, Terry Francona is a mystery to me right now. I know he was formerly the manager of a sub-.500 Phillies team and is a players' manager, but other than that I don't know too much about him. Managers of course don't matter as much in the AL than in the NL, but don't tell Grady Little that. Nobody can be as bad as Gump, so I'm expecting good things out of Francona. LIke our first World Series title in 86 years.
  16. Good fluff piece with pretty good information. Pretty much a typical mlb.com piece. Ian Browne is a good writer though and I enjoy reading most of his pieces. I'm just kind of sick of reading about Pedro, Schilling, Millar, Nomar, etc. Write me a good aritcle about Crespo or Timlin, or another player you don't read too much about. Those are the players I'm interested in.
  17. I don't know if Billy Beane could hook us up with God, but maybe a similar player. I personally like Youkillis, and he has the potential to be a solid player. Third base is also a position that it's hard to find good talent at, so I've set my mind on keeping him right now. Unless of course we get a stud in a trade for him.
  18. Yeah, and with that said, they always want you to sign up for everything so they can get your email address and then try to sell you stuff.
  19. I don't like thinking about the idea right now, because I believe Pedro easily has a few more 20 wins-like seasons. Like yeszir said, if we can rap him up till 2008 then I say go for it if he's becoming a little more injury prone than he already is. The only thing I can think of that can make this a bad idea is the fact that he doesn't have a "closer" fastball, which he can still be dominant without. Just ask Keith Foulke.
  20. Shaughnessy annoys me everywhere. In the papers, on camera (which can be rare), you name where he is and I want to strangle him. He acts like we like to lose or we enjoy reading pessimistic articles. And when he's on camera, with his annoying voice and curly red hair, he's the same way. Gimme Edes or Massarotti any day.
  21. And not to mention one of the best postseasons ever and the 3 teams with the biggest fanbases are big World Series contenders (Sox, MFY, Cubs).
  22. Yeah Brown is definitely nasty when healthy. I think he like went 10-0 last year or something before getting injured. Anyways, he was going to be a lock for the Cy Young Award. The tandem of Moose/Brown/Vasquez is the very, very dangerous. This pitching staff with that offense? I laugh at anyone who doesn't think the MFY will make the playoffs this year. (Even though I hope they don't.)
  23. I really don't like those position by position comparison things because unlike other sports, position by position doesn't matter in baseball.
  24. But let's hope they don't blow a game he pitches (or all year).
