The fact that this guy’s still in the game speaks volumes about the starting staff.

Ahem. The box score says that Criswell pitched 5 innings and gave up 2 ER. That's not too shabby. Too bad the lineup (Gonzalez) made the error that led to the 3 unearned runs in the 2d inning.

Meanwhile, the woebegone "righty" Sox lineup has, in addition to making the big error, scored 1 run also in 5 innings.

Sad to say, despite Criswell being a weak starter, the problems have been with the lineup, who so far tonight can't field and can't hit.

What a miserable game. I wonder if this team will actually make any moves at the trade deadline. Idk if they can overcome how bad they’re at home.

It would help if O'Neill actually contributed. He is 1 for last 9, with 6 K's. Of his 16 total HR's ( for 31` rbi's) , 9 came in March/April. His OPS is .851 but somehow not feeling it.

The joke is on us. We are without Grissom, and he doesn't give a damn.

Wow. Are you serious? Grissom isn't pitching this season? What happened? This is just terrible news.

Meanwhile, without Grissom and without Sale, this is the best Sox pitching staff in a long time--better even--so far--than the 2018 WS champion Sox.

Criswell, having thrown 102 pitches already, is out there trying to eat one more inning for his team.

Whoa, nellie. Criswell has now officially thrown/pitched/survived a quality freaking start--2 ER in 6 IP!!!!

The fault, dear talksox fans, is not in the pitching staff, but in the lineup, that they are underlings.

Criswell eats up 6 full innings which you could say was his job tonight. No hitting support to speak of, a costly error ( aren't they all?) and a number of 2 out hits surrendered. The benefit of Criswell types over a BP Opener game is the 6 innings and probably only 2 guys out of the pen , instead of 4 or 5.

I would love to know how many comebacks this team has when they’re down 4 runs or more this year.

What makes this game too typical is that the lineup--and not the freaking pitching!!!!--has been flat on their butts. Thanks to Gonzalez, the Sox lineup has given up 2 more runs than they have scored.

Surely hoping the Sox don't blow this series vs a WC contending opponent , especially while NYY and Balt O's are playing each other. One or the other of those 2 is guaranteed to lose every night. A sweep of KC would have been exceptional, probably not realistic

In his third at bat vs. Ragans in this game, Duran struck out on a pitch way, way outside and in the dirt. In hit/bounced on the line of the righty batter's box. This is an all-star player? Edited by Maxbialystock

After 6 innings we have reconfirmed that the Sox can't hit lefty starters. Duran and Devers, both all-stars this year, looked worse against Ragans in their third at bats than in their first two.

And we have been reminded that a fatal error is almost normal with this team.

Just for grins, AC, do not lineup O'Neill and Devers back to back . Both are having problems . In last 3, Raffy 1 for 10 with 5 Ks, O'neill 1 for 10, 6 K's.

I give Devers much credit for waiving off the A-S game in order to rest his left shoulder. It may be hurting right now. But until he learns to release his left hand on his follow though, he will continue to have chronic shoulder pain.

Get this bum out of the game

"This bum" threw a quality start tonight: 6 IP, 2 ER. The other 3 Royals runs were from Gonzalez's error and all unearned.

Well, I just hope the SOX FO doesn't agree that Criswell pitched well tonight. If they do, they'll just make him the middle of the rotation guy the SOX are missing.

Right, got it. The Sox are losing tonight because we have a dumb manager.

Including that HR to open the 8th, Weissert has thrown his last 3.0 innings and surrendered 6 earned runs. Begs my repeating comment, to what question is Weissert the answer ? I know, lack of pitching depth.

I hope you are having a good time because you have become insufferable. yes, the Sox are losing solely due to Cora's gross incompetence. And you are much more a Bloom than a Bialystock type.

I agree he did not "pitch well," but he showed a ton of heart. Like a bunch of other guys on this team, Criswell is minimum wage.

And you know as well as everybody else, even me, that Criswell is not middle of the order. The first four right now are Houck, Caldwell, Pivetta, and Bello. This was Criswell's 12th start. 5 games ago it was Winck, who gave up 3 in 3.2 IP to the Yankees--after which, the deluge. The Yankees scored 14.

2 on, no outs, bottom of the 8th.

Followed immediately by Abreu, Duran, and O'Neill all striking out.

Some lineup we have. This could be a Royals sweep.

Just amazing that this momentarily 10 game over .500 team is about to be -3 at home. As that total idiot Cora says, it's the crowd's fault.

He's arguably the best manager in MLB and he would like to see a full house rooting for the Sox.

I don't think the crowd has much effect, and this year it seems pretty obvious that the Sox have weak righty bats in a home ballpark that favors righty bats.
