Cole only gets stronger i feel as the game goes on.

That may be. He was certainly cautious in the 1st inning. And we know he can be very good. But I like that he needed 42 pitches to get 6 outs.

Right now by far the bigger problem is Winck, who can't find the strike zone except right down the middle.

There's no question that if the SOX want to remain in contention, ownership has to allow Breslow to go after a starting pitcher.

I think we all agree with that.

However, the 2024 Sox are much weaker in their lineup (13 players) than their pitching (also 13 players). The team ERA is 4th best in MLB, which is the best its been since 2007 and this year's ERA is lower than the one in 2007.

The lineup, on the other hand, leads MLB in freaking errors and unearned runs and what moonslav calls disputable earned runs (from plays that should have been made). Plus the Sox are 12th in MLB in runs scored.

Amazing throw by Judge considering he was standing flat footed. Probably gets anyone but Hamilton or Duran…

These are f***ing terrible walks.

And he got out of the inning with a K. That to me showed a ton of heart.

And, oh, by the way. Winck is supposed to be a reliever. He's starting because they Sox need a 5th starter. It's OK to worry about how he's doing, but to me not OK to never give him any credit.

Devers stole 2b base??? Where's the respect?

Good of Wink not to throw Rice another hanging slider.

Winck's our guy. And he's a reliever being asked to start. And so far--it's still very early in this game--he's doing better than the Yankee's ace/former ace.

In the box score they look like line drives.

But in reality Cole was being bled out with paper cuts…

Wink's a trooper, but he's not the answer for the rotation.

He did give up some hard hit balls too. Hamilton and Devers ripped the ball

While I still agree, I'm watching $324M for 9 years Gerrit Cole struggle to get through 3 innings vs. the Sox.

Let's see how no-name, bargain basement Winck does in the 3d.
