I'm not sure Bloom goes over the money with Cora or even needs to.

Money no, pay raise and extension, yes. That move was intended to establish Barnes as the once and future closer for the Sox because he sure seemed to have the same two nasty pitches--knuckle curve and over 95 mph fastball--that made Kimbrel successful. You don't think Bloom checked with Cora on what he thought of Barnes?

I do agree Bloom comes from the Rays school of acquiring and developing players, which is not what Cora (or John Henry) is used to. So I am not saying that Bloom and Cora will always agree and am saying that Bloom is the guy who hired Cora and can fire him.

Nevertheless, I doubt that Bloom extended that new contract offer to Barnes without asking Cora what he thought of Barnes.

Could someone please wake up jasonbay44?

Lineup for today/night: Herndandez, Devers, Bogaerts, JDM, Verdugo, Vazquez, Shaw (1b), Arauz, Bradley. 4 lefty bats vs. Manning. Story still sick. Dalbec resting? Bradley back in RF. Vazquez moved up from 8th to 6th. Cards and then Mets castoff Wacha (WAR of -.6 last year) starting.

Houck's outing could have been worse:

@_dadler

Joey Gallo had this lineout last night with a 112.5 mph exit velocity and a 22° launch angle.

Since Statcast started tracking, there have been 132 balls hit between 112-113 mph and 21-23°.

121 of the other 131 were home runs.

Gallo's is the first one ever to be an out.

Kinda makes up for the "cheap HRs."

Call it even.

Replacing Schwarber’s bat and Renfroe’s bat with Story’s and Bradley’s isn’t going to get us more runs.

It could be pretty close.

Renfroe sucked in April and Schwarber was here for 2 months.

6 months of Story vs 7 good months from Renfroe & Schwarber.

We could hope for better from Verdugo or a bust out year from Devers or Bogey, but that would likely be offset by a dip from someone else.

I don't think offense will be our biggest weakness.

I also think our starting pitchers will lose more games than our pen, and will have less to do with our wins than our pen, but that is by no means a lock. It's just my opinion.

Overall, pitching as a whole is our weakest link.
