I guess this 'stretching out' is overrated. Maybe Cora should start Whitlock soon.

Perhaps, but he has been extremely valuable in the bullpen and relieving puts less stress on his arm.

Houck has a good fastball and a great slider, which is ideal for a reliever. He needs, at least, one more good pitch to be a consistent starter.

He's thrown at least one splitter (for a strike) and he has 2 fastballs, one of which breaks down.

No doubt, Houck looks like the most promising starter to come thru the SOX farm since Buchholz.

I just heard that Houck has been working on a change-up. But a good change-up doesn't happen overnight. Thank you, Captain Obvious.

Montgomery was very lucky in the third. Montgomery’s OPS against this current lineup is 771.

I agree with Ted, we should’ve hit this guy.

His OPS doesn't count on nights when he is pitching this well. And so far--4 innings, granted--the first six Sox batters are hitless with 4 K's and 1 BB. Both hits were singles by #7 Verdugo (in a slump) and #9 Chavis.

Yes, Montgomery did get lucky when Bogey hit the liner straight to the SS with the bases loaded. Also when Bogey's long drive went foul.

Montgomery's OPS against is .555 with no runners in scoring position. One of the lowest in the league. However, his OPS against with RISP is .855, one of the highest in the league. Make of that what you will.

This is a clear example of clutch pitching.

Montgomery clearly is not a clutch pitcher and still, we couldn’t score in that 3rd inning. We should have destroyed him in that inning mostly because one of the best hitters in the game was at that AB.

If this game does re-start at 9:40, I wonder if Montgomery will continue. If it's more than 45 minutes, the pitcher is usually pulled.

Hope not. We have t been able to do Jack against him

Can’t believe we had loaded bases and came away with nothing.

Before that, we had runners at the corners with 1 out and Kike couldn’t bring a run either. It’s turning frustrating as hell.

Well, Bogey, who's been in a minor slump, just happened to hit an atom ball. That's what usually happens when one is in a slump.

We certainly saw that with ERod's changeup. Tough pitch to master.

Agree--both starters are probably done. That makes it a battle of the bullpens.

Definitely impressed with Houck. I just hope he has a 'rubber' arm, because, like Sale, he flings mostly with his arm, with little help from his body.

He's got a bum wrist.

He's got a bum wrist.

If that's the case, because I didn't see him flinch on any swings tonight, but if he is playing with a bum wrist, then he shouldn't be playing.
