And the confrontation between pitcher and hitter IS NOT a massive mental game?????

You might think the rest is secondary until its your responsibility to make plays....all kinds of plays. It does not seem secondary when you have taken a ground ball off your nose then booted the ball halfway around the ballpark or threw to the wrong base or ace overthrown the cutoff man at the worst possible time. Those two throwing mistakes will really make you feel stupid It seems very real, very present and you feel like you are standing there with your pants around your ankles.

Now I have seen some guys playing MLB now that I do not even consider baseball players. They are simply hitters and the way MLB has screwed this game up, they actually have a shot at hanging around. They stumble around in the field and on the bases. They don't even seem interested in playing. They are only interested in hitting. This is a fairly new phenomenon. But I know who they are. Interested to see how long they hang around on an MLB roster even given how the game is played today.

Base running is no longer treated as important. I will give you that. It is still frustrating to see guys who appear not to know the golden rule of base running. You cannot outrun the thrown baseball. I don't care how fast you are or how fast you think you are. You can't outrun the thrown baseball. You can run on some guy with a rag arm throwing lollypops around the field, but that's it.

If they were still playing this game the way it was intended to be played "the rest" would not even seem secondary.

Ahem. All due respect, but I think I should remind you that Ted Williams was interested in one thing and one thing only, hitting--and he said so often. He wasn't interesting in fielding or running the bases or any other ancillary skills. Just hitting.

But forget Williams and just look at how many pitches are thrown in a game vs. how many balls are put in play. And my goodness the increasing importance of getting a walk or giving one up--both of which involve nothing but the pitcher and batter and no one else.

Could somebody please explain to me why Perez is so highly regarded when Cora has to pull him after 62 pitches against a weak Yankees lineup? I just looked at the detailed summary on the mlb app, and it's clear he needed to be pulled even though he was only charged with 3 runs (all earned).

It seems to me that Cora does not have much confidence in Perez.

If we really are just treading water would you trade Verdugo to Cleveland for an arm ? I’m not sold on Verdugo as some power threat kid has 9 HR plays a good OF but is he really the centerpiece of a Mookie trade LMAO Fuuuuuuck no we got screwed Edited by Swiharts Ghost

Rafi is young. Puts too much pressure on himself. Expects to pick up the team constantly and that is a lotta' pressure to put on yourself over 162.

This game is not about physical strength or muscles or even conditioning as much as it is about dealing with the pressure of playing in the field, hitting, base running (which none of them can do any more) and doing it in multiple situations which you have to determine before a play has to be made. Making it up on the fly won't work in this game.

It is certainly the hardest mentally of the team sports. Golf is likely the hardest mentally over all. Professional golfers are dealing with mental strain all the time and there is nobody to pick them up. Watch a pro golf tournament in person sone time and watch how they shape the ball around the course. WE are not playing the same game as they are. Soccer is likely the toughest game physically. Tennis is tough mentally in that you know you have to dominate your opponent or your opponent will dominate you and tennis players break down a good deal. So they are often out there gimping around.

Since I disagreed with a big chunk of your post, I have to also say that I think your thoughts on Devers are the soul of wisdom and that for him it's hitting and everything else as well. He has in fact been carrying a heavy load this season, not just with his great hitting, but also his improved defense and his desire to contribute in every possible way, including on the basepaths. He wants to lead this team as a complete player who nevertheless is still learning and developing.

Ball game. Series. Hopefully, not the season, but there can be no question the Sox are slipping badly and now must face a semi-hot Jays team.

This team Got Wrecked by a AAA club two nights in a row

The pitching was demonstrably not AAA. Cole, for example, is one of the best starters in MLB. Season to date, the Yankees have the 4th best ERA in the AL.

Perez has been very good for 61 pitches many times.

This team is not this bad.

The scary thing is, maybe we weren't as good as we looked earlier.

It's time to beat the Jays and beat them badly.

They look hot, but they have several weaknesses.

Our rotation should line up well vs them, and they just played 2, today.

Pirates score 6 in the 1st against the Mets and get 3 in on a dribbler down the 3d base line that the umpire called fair. The Mets were so mad at the call they forgot to play ball and the dribbler brought home 3 runs. '

But the Mets score 7 runs, the last two on a top of the 9th dinger and won the game without their manager Rojas who was thrown out way back in the 1st.

This team knows it has to stop this. They’re better than the Yankees. They played up to their level this weekend.

Good and great teams sometimes lose to bad teams. We lost to the Rangers and then turned it around.

I'm confident the team is better than this. How much better and is that "better" good enough is about to become known.

Here’s the problem with saying your better than a team that just trotted out the Scranton J walkers and had the Yankees on the vid protocol....it’s a f***ing lie .Scranton just pulverized our starters friend ....we need help yesterday and no Duran isn’t even a zit on the giant asssss of this issue .

Bobby should be optioned if he has any or waived .

Will you please stop?

I understand being pissed at Dalbec and wanting him gone, but saying "DFA" a guy who has decent trade value is either gross and continued hyperbole that is getting tired and old or a sign of you having no idea how roster moves and changes are made.

If we DFA'd every player you wanted us to, and got nothing in return, we'd suck, right now.
