Eovaldi ® v. Howard ®

Last night is ancient history, and tonight there is a new mountain to climb--even though there was a lot to like about 11-3.

I would love to say the Sox have the pitching edge tonight, but Eovaldi has been up and down and definitely hittable even though he has the most innings pitched in the Sox rotation and is tied for most quality starts, 3. He has been better on the road (Texas and Minnesota) than at Fenway.

Howard is the Phillies #1 prospect. Almost 25, he doesn't have much MLB experience and this year has relieved for the Phillies (ERA 8.31) and started at AAA. mlb.com write-up says he will likely be held to 60 pitches. All that suggests Howard will get pounded tonight, but someone else wisely said the Sox don't do so well against newbies.

Phillies are better at home than on the road. This month they had a 5 game winning streak at home. However, just before the Sox arrived, the lowly Marlins came to town and took 2 of 3.

On paper we should win this. Our team is better in all departments — all, and is not even close.

Paper shmaper. There are no dominant teams in MLB this year, and the Phillies, despite my sarcasm in the OP last night, are not pushovers. They win 5 of 10 games and the Sox win 6 of 10. They're good at home and the Sox are good on the road. Eovaldi, ERA 4.60, struggling not to become the Sox worst starter, is going against a promising newbie. The Phillies were rotten in the field last night, but the Sox were rotten the game before that.

Me too. Thanks.

Saturday is move day, and Mickelson is now 9 under (and 4 up on the pack) on a 7800 yard course. DeChambeau has disappeared--again.

So mickelson would become the oldest player to ever win a golf major if this holds up. Don’t know how he’s doing it.

On the 9th, a 500 yard par 4, he hit a 327 yard drive, which is insane. His 2d shot in a deep trap, his third close to the pin, followed by par putt.

Unequivocally rooting for Phil. If Tiger can't participate, then Phil winning is the next best thing. Just got a little tighter though after he hit it into the water off the 13th tee.

Dugo has a tightened hamstring; please limit your trips to the weight room, Dugy.

Before weight rooms there was Jim Rice. Strong as bull. Never remember him missing games with hamstring issues. In fact, before weight rooms I don't remember many players missing games with muscle or tendon injuries.

You want muscles? Try swimming.

Yankees won, upping the pressure.

1 run given up in their last 4 games. 3 shutouts. Don’t know if their pitching is that good or it’s their opponent.

Bryce Harper might be a tad over-priced at $35M/year. He looks like dog doo-doo, last night and today.

A semi-miraculous two outs. The only thing Eovaldi can throw for a strike is that fast ball.

Correction, he's throw a couple of decent--and effective--cut fastballs to get 2 outs.

So far, however, forget the slider, the curve, and I think a splitter which we haven't seen yet.

I just don’t about the guy as a starter. He looks like a BP guy but we have nobody to put him in our rotation.
