Astros made a hell of a deal today, but it was with the Jays. Sanchez moving to the bullpen could pay off. They still have a few guys in their minors who are intriguing.

 

But good move on the Astros part. They have an opportunity to win a world series and they weren't afraid to go out there and made the moves.

The Astros are brilliant, one of the best organizations in the game. I like how they waited until the end to finalize the Grienke deal. I wonder if that was by design.

The Astros farm system isn't what it once was. Beer stands out--he could be excellent. The other prospects are mediocre. Rojas is interesting but he is 25 years old, probably a utility-type. Bukauskas has been a disappointment and Martin just had TJ Surgery. Martin has talent but he is going to disappear for almost two years--he will be gone for all of next season and in 2021 he will build himself up again in the minor leagues.

 

More importantly, the Astros kept Tucker and Whitley, the two guys with the biggest upside in the Astros system.

 

The Yankees could probably have put a better deal together without including Garcia. They could have offered Gil, Frazier, and two other pieces, but Grienke could block a trade to the Yankees. Moreover, there is a common belief that Grienke would be a bad fit for N.Y. City.

 

I'm thrilled with this trade. The Red Sox aren't going anywhere this year and can't stop the Yankees. As such, I wanted the Astros to add a significant player at the deadline, and the Yankees failure to improve their starting pitching was the cherry on top.
