With this I think the BP is settled, let's see if we get confirmation

Reported by Jon Heyman, let's see if it's true

Yeah but my guess is they were only able to get him at a reasonable $9M AAV by giving him that third year. I'm sure he would have cost around $12M/year on a two year deal (similar to Dave Robertson).

Instead of going for 1 big name, and spending forever, you went on a strong BP. Very Strong BP. And its cheaper. Relievers are Tradeable too, if kids come up, and do good. Now, you got young talent coming back. Relievers at the July 31, trade dead line bring back some of the best returns.

Sox just got too much dead money, stuck between a rock and hard place.

That pen is insane.

Green

Ottavino

Britton

Betances

Holder

Chapman

We probably put Cessa or German as the long man and we’re done

It's almost the same bullpen as last season, except Ottavino replaces D-Rob. Not that it's a bad thing since last year's bullpen had the highest total WAR since 1950. To me the big differences from 2018 to this year will be if Kahnle can become effective again and if Holder can repeat his success with his limited stuff. Also curious to see if Tarpley carves out a role for himself.

Here's to hoping that your insane pen gets your team exactly where last year's insane pen got that team. :D

lol jacko has said in ad nauseam about that forever.

I'm skeptical about Ottavino. He doesn't have a track record to warrent a 3 year deal at his age.

Jacko gets a little excited about his team. Can't blame him for that.

I tend to agree about Ottavino. He's a nice addition, but not worth a 3 year deal.

At the outset of free agency, Ottavino was expected to get a 3 yr deal at $11-$12 mil AAV. Getting him at 3/$9 mil is a deal. I think we offered the third year to drop the AAV. He will be 33-34-35 for the three years of the deal. His K rates are insane. He has proven in prior years to limit the walks, which is crazy considering that was the only bugaboo from last year. He’s still averaging 94 mph and he’s a large man so maybe he keeps his stuff to the end of the deal. This deal makes our pen absolutely dominant, but this deal was made for 2020 as much as this year. After 2019, Chapman can opt out and Betances will be a FA. It’s not a bad deal
