Beeks probably needs all four of those pitches. Thats the lesson he takes from this outing IMO.

Jung when I flipped this game on he looked totally overmatched .....that changed and the kid gets to have some confidence and some real work to do ....overall this game should be 6 -3 worst case but we are beyond that with these at bats .

From where I am sitting I can only judge the hitters’ reactions and Beeks isn’t fooling anyone except the hapless hopeless Jacoby Jones who is batting lead off as a result of an act of managerial negligence. Do his pitches have any movement.

Disastrous 1st, absolutely. But 1 run in the next three innings suggests that they ain't seeing him that well. Way too many fast balls in the first, but it is a decent fast ball when mixed in. Good curve. Changeup OK, but he can't seem to spot it right. Cut fastball, I think, is his 4th pitch and it's OK.

Maybe Brian Johnson should have gotten the spot start based on that 5th inning. Beeks did shut off Detroit in the 2-3-4 innings with minimal damage. Thought his overall delivery was not smooth or typical but neither is Sale's.

Maybe DD brought Beeks up to showcase him trying to trade for a catcher ? Hah

This offense’s brutal. That’s why beeks should have been out when it was 3-0 nothing.

What wisdom. What insight. Since that was back in the first inning, I have to ask at what point you would have had someone warming up in the pen?

Back to back clean innings plus one of the worst short throws to 1B you will ever seen. Johnson looks awfully good--after I pretty much wrote him off as a reliever.

I'm getting the espn feed and cannot for the life of me understand why they think the announcers are what the game is all about. And by that I mean where the cameras are pointed. Me, I like to see the ball park, the fans, the players, the coaches, the ambiance, whatever. But absolutely not the announcers. And I do like Mike Lowell.

Every team ends up with 2/5 starters convalescing at some point in the season. We already have one. I am thinking the Sox are not hot to move Johnson or Valazquez into the rotation for any extended periods and wanted to know what they had in Beeks. Just based on what Beeks learned tonight I would not call this a write off. At least the Sox likely feel they have another option in Beeks. Not sure I would try him as a relief pitcher up here. Can never have enough pitching. But you do want to have some idea of what you have before you are making decisions.

Will knock me over with a feather if we are not down to as far as 3 of our opening day starters at some point this season if not worse.

No more experiments after tonight plz. You’re in a race with the skanks who hardly lose these days it seems.

Meh. I'm not saying games in June aren't important, but we are barely halfway thru the season. Tonight provided some pretty useful information. Swihart looks OK behind the plate and he get a nice double on a night when we ain't hitting. Beeks can pitch at this level. Johnson looked awfully good. Oh, and the game ain't over.

He’s still a rookie. Johnson has had that experience and clearly better control. Why not pitch him tonight instead of beeks
