Sure they were lucky. But don't forget that line from Bull Durham when Costner's character says the difference between a .300 hitter and a .250 hitter is one hit a week. I checked the math: it's true. I don't disagree that Marrero and Holt aren't much in the way of hitters, but I also don't think batting leadoff has hampered Betts rbi potential all that much.

Marrero and Holt aren't .250 hitters, and your epigram from Bull Durham is a very strange argument.

It's generational. The older generation (like me) was taught the use of the word was low-class. Younger folks don't seem to think that way. It is what it is. And just like you, harmony is entitled to his opinion. Based on subsequent posts, I note that it's you being the jerk here, not harmony.

********. I am 62 and I have been hearing and using the word for most of my life.

Harmony and anyone else here can say pretty much what they want as long as it is not a personal attack. You may take offense to it but you have no legitimate reason to attack another for doing so.

Talksox has a certain culture, a flavor of it's own. Most of the long time members have absolutely no problem with profanity when used to emphasize an emotion or a point. In fact, the word makes things quite clear how the user feels. Something that is not always clear on the Internet.

Instead of calling out a member and casting guilt on that member for what most now a days see as daily vernacular and specifically a word that we as Talksox members accept as part of effectively communicating, you would be better off just adapting to the norm of the board or consider just leaving and taking your pomposity and self righteousness elsewhere.

"Warm regards".

Fister 0-3/ 6.75

Will try and recover after his last tough start against the Rangers where he gave up five runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. Reported to be headed to the bullpen after this start.

Liriano 5-5/ 6.04

Liriano is scheduled to make this start after being pulled from his last start with a stiff neck. Was evaulated, and cleared to pitch after his bullpen session on Tuesday.

It's time to get Fister his first win with the Red Sox. Let's end this home stand with a bang and start the left coast road trip off on a good note.

Get it done boys!!! Beat the Jays!!!

You have been a good luck charm starting these game day threads. Here's hoping we get the series win tonight!

They have now scored 3 of our 6 runs, so they are not a disaster. HanRam and JBJ are hitless and scoreless.

8th inning with Leon, Marrero, and Holt coming up and a 1 run game. Let's see what happens.

Holt cleverly strikes out so that Bett can get to bat with a man on first, but Betts lines out to RF.

One inning left.

If the Sox lose, it is still on Farrell.

Well, that's most likely game. I don't see this offense getting two more runs in 9th off Osuna. 6 runs should be more than enough for a win, but not with Doug Fister on the mound..

I accept that we subject ourselves to feedback when we post to a public forum.

Thank you for your response.

Not at all. In fact, I would be happier if Lin were back and Holt were still on the DL.

I was never a fan of the Moreland signing, but I hoped he'd do well, and he even gave me some false hope he figured it out with that hot streak, but this is basically what he is. He's a low average power hitter who can't hit LHP and is pretty mediocre. If he finishes the season with his current WAR (1.0) it would be the 2nd highest of his career. I hope we let him walk after the season and find a real 1B/DH option.

One of the talking heads on the pre-game show said that Farrell wanted to give his rotation an additional day of rest. Hence Fister starting.

Lovely.

You can not play .500 ball at home and be taken seriously as a championship aspirant.

I don’t get how many extra days of rest his staff needs. He already used a fill in pitcher in this series.

We just had the all star break and we gave Johnson a start to make up for the double header. This makes no sense... So we decide to forfeit a game because the rotation needs "rest"? WTF.
