Double A Portland has wrapped up a playoff spot.

Triple A Pawtucket is up by 3 games for the last International League playoff spot, and only 3 games behind Syracuse for the IL North Division with 12 games left to play.

So although Boston limps along, our minor league teams are ready for the postseason.

I live in Rhode Island right near Pawtucket so I can keep you posted on the PawSox.

Well at least some affiliated Red Sox teams are having some success----a hell of a far cry from our pathetic home team from Boston.

The PawSox won last night behind Henry Owens and a walk off HR by Corey Brown. Owens gave up 2 runs in 8 innings. Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a solo HR.

Bradley hitting a HR isn't a good thing, btw. They want him to start hitting liners and hard grounders and get away from the HR swing.

The team is going in a different direction. Bradley would have to dominate at AAA to get another shot.

Here is the interesting thing with Jackie Bradley Jr. The guy posted a positive WAR while having an OPS under .600 at an outfield position. That is very difficult to do. If he can hit .250 with an OPS approaching .700, she would actually be worth more than two wins per year. They don't want him to be hitting home runs, they want him to be making better contact and putting the ball in play to where he can reach base. They sent him down to rework his swing so that he no longer goes for the home run. The fact that he already cranked one out so quickly shows that he is not taking to that new approach.

He's been worth 2 wins a year already, according to fangraphs. This is the same discussion that was rehashed a hundred times before Iglesias came to the big leagues, and I doubt we'll ever get agreement.

Are any playoff pairings set for the Sea Dogs? That's too bad about the playoff format.

The PawSox still have the Wild Card lead for the last IL playoff spot, but there are still two other teams (Buffalo and Rochester) in the hunt with just 5 games to go. Pawtucket still has a outside shot of taking their division, since they have a 2 game series against division leading Syracuse this weekend.

Jackie Bradley Jr is still struggling after 49 AB with a .204/.220/.286 line, 10 for 49 with one double, one HR.

Maybe Daniel Bard can get Bradley a part time job at the gas station where Bard pumps gas.

Or get on Survivor with John Rocker? Hmm has he been juicing??

Speaking of Rocker, here is a great piece by Jeff Pearlman, the writer who revealed the real Rocker.

The Pawtucket Red Sox clinched a Wild Card playoff spot late Saturday night after a 2 1/2 hour rain delay. They lost their regular season home finale this afternoon, on Labor Day. The PawSox will open the playoffs at home Wednesday September 3 in Pawtucket against Syracuse (Washington). The other IL playoff series is Durham (TB) vs Columbus (CLE). The winners face off for the IL Governor's Cup, then that winner plays the Pacific Coast League Champion in the Triple A title game.

By the way if you look at MILB.com, the Gulf Coast League Single A Red Sox beat their Yankees counterparts for the GCL Championship!

Pawtucket is up 2 games to 0 on Syracuse after the first two home games at McCoy Stadium. Tonight they play in Syracuse with Henry Owens on the mound.

From MILB.com: Matt Barnes dominated Syracuse, allowing just three hits over seven scoreless innings in Triple-A Pawtucket's 8-2 win. He struck out six and didn't issue a walk. The victory gave the Red Sox a 2-0 lead in their semifinal series against the Chiefs.

Jackie Bradley Jr made a nice catch to end the 8th, with the bases loaded for SYR.

Meanwhile Portland is tied up 1-1 against Binghamton. From MILB.com Stefan Welch homered twice, Sean Coyle went deep for the second straight game and cleanup hitter Keury De La Cruz added an insurance shot as Double-A Portland evened its Eastern League Eastern Division series with a 7-0 win at Binghamton.

Castillo will be with Pawtucket for the first two home games of the Governor's Cup series vs. Durham. The games are tonight and Wednesday 9/10.

The PawSox won Game 1, but lost Game 2 of the Governor's Cup Series, splitting the first 2 home games. They are off to Durham for Games 3-5. Last night was a tough loss. The PawSox gave up a 3-2 lead in the 9th with a game tying HR off closer Heath Hembree and then went on to lose 4-3 in 11 innings. Owens pitches tonight.

The PawSox won the Governor's Cup, losing Game 3 but rallying back to take the title by winning Games 4 (in 13 innings) and 5.

Pawtucket will now play Omaha Tuesday night in Charlotte, NC for the Triple A championship. This game will be shown on the NBC Sports Network.
